everything starts and ends with the principle of bend. The best way to achive softness is through bending with a snaffle or hackamore. I use both at the same time. After my horse spends a few years in the hackamore and can back a side pass then he is ready for the spade. But in reallity everything can be done with the snaffle.

My 25 year old Arabian/QH mare is in a D-ring snaffle bit. She’s super hot and loves to run. Every time I ask for a simple walk by putting a bit of pressure one rein at a time, she throws her head up and just pushes right through the aid. Same with turning- when I ask to turn she hesitates and refuses unless I really reach down and FORCE her to turn. My trainer suggested a full bit with a correctional port.. would you suggest the bit you were talking about? Thank you

This Bit looks interesting. But just to add on, I had a horse much like the one you are describing. Getting the horse soft in the mouth , while from the ground, utilizing "pressure and release techniques", made a huge difference. A good bit is a great tool to cue what you want the horse to do, but they need to fully understand the correct response on a foundational level. Its a combination of the training AND the tools. Best wishes

He is a paint/Percheron cross and has been trained for barrels so when I try doing circles and stops with him he throughs his neck into it and just goes faster until I force him.
