1. Promising Young Woman 2. Minari 3. Judas and the Black Messiah 4. Sound of metal 5. Nomadland 6. The Trial of the Chicago 7 7. Mank I haven't seen the father

Seen all of them except Nomadland: 7/6- Mank and Trial Of The Chicago 7 (not sure how to rank yet) 5- Judas And The Black Messiah 4- Sound Of Metal 3- Minari 2- The Father 1- Promising Young Woman
Talking about the Oscars and seeing the War For the Planet of the Apes poster in the back reminded me how badly that movie was snubbed. Dawn too. Serkis should've got an actor nomination, Giacchino a score nomination, and they definitely should have won for vfx. In a (my) perfect world, it would've gotten a picture nom too.
My aunt went through and died due to dementia/Alzheimer’s so the father really hit home for me and if the movie doesn’t win best picture or Anthony Hopkins doesn’t win best actor I’d be shocked
Hate to break it to you but there’s basically no chance it wins best picture. Hopkins might win best actor and it might win best screenplay but it won’t win picture. Which is unfortunate cause I love the movie
I’d have no problem with The Father, Sound of Metal or Minari winning. Unfortunately, the rest of the nominees didn’t really do much for me this year. Especially Mank
Really liked your list and thoughts on that. Here's my list - 1. The Father 2. Judas and the Black Messiah 3. Minari 4. Trial of the Chicago 7 5. Sound of Metal 6. Nomadland 7. Promising young woman 8. Mank. I really want The Father to win the award.

Great list! I put Sound of Metal just above The Father for my number 1, but honestly it's a toss-up for me. They're both really well done films. Completely agree with you on Mank. It's a film that looks great, and I appreciate it. But it's nothing I'd ever need to see again.
My Ranking 1 - Promising Young Woman 2 - The Father 3 - Judas And The Black Messiah 4 - Minari 5 - Nomadland 6 - The Trial Of The Chicago 7 7 - Sound Of Metal 8 - Mank
I'd give all of these an 8 or higher 1. Minari 2. The Father/Sound of Metal 4.Judas and the Black Messiah 5. The Trial of the Chicago 7 6. Nomadland 7. Mank

@@tracealyea5841 I thought it was really good. I just liked the other four movies more. The father just got too real for me. I’ve dealt with people who have dementia. The father is an all too accurate portrayal of that. To give an idea, there’s a huge gap between my top 5 and number 6
@@charliebushman9877 I’d probably have Nomadland at the bottom. Too much like a documentary and the main character didn’t really have an objective. She just lost her husband and house and decided to live a life in a van. It wasn’t a horrible movie, just something I’d never go back and see again.

I’ve only seen Mank and Promising young Woman and I enjoyed them both a lot. They’re both very different films but I ultimately appreciated Mank a little more and is the better made and acted movie. The best parts of Promising young woman are Carey Mulligan and Bo, plus that twist at the end. I don’t think it’s a winner though so Mank gets my vote of the two. I’m gonna try to watch Sound of Metal and Minari before tomorrow and maybe Nomadland but my Dad’s seen it so I probably will save that for after

Promising young women is garbage.
@@ronaldmcdonald2817 I don’t care if you think it is
@@Barrie96 ok still garbage.
@@ronaldmcdonald2817 your opinion man. But nobody cares

Nah, they're great but Best Picture is a stretch
The vfx are great but blade runner 2049 definitely deserved to win
@@yadmoreno3677 haha yeah I agree, that's why I put the "(my)" bc it is one of my absolute favorites.
@@nathancampbell9083 ngl I totally thought Star Wars won that year. That's ignorance on my part haha. Yeah Blade Runner 2049 looked phenomenal
My aunt went through and died due to dementia/Alzheimer’s so the father really hit home for me and if the movie doesn’t win best picture or Anthony Hopkins doesn’t win best actor I’d be shocked
Matthew Harrison If Anthony Hopkins doesn't win an oscar for best actor then at least he won a BAFTA for best actor!
@@faisalfaisal-sg4sl what’s a BAFTA?
@@matthewharrison2971 a British Academy Of Film And Television Award!
@@matthewharrison2971 Sry but Chadwick is probably gonna win in actor and Nomadland is the front runner for bp
From what Ive seen
1. Nomadland

Great list! I put Sound of Metal just above The Father for my number 1, but honestly it's a toss-up for me. They're both really well done films. Completely agree with you on Mank. It's a film that looks great, and I appreciate it. But it's nothing I'd ever need to see again.

this is one of the worst rankings on this list
@@morrison3423 dude these are all opinions, they can’t be best and worst, film is subjective and these films are all great so there’s no right and wrong

1) The Trial of the Chicago 7
2) Sound of Metal
3) Nomadland
4) Mank
I have only seen those 4 and my ranking is the exact opposite of yours lol well I keep switching Nomadland and Mank but still
In my opinion these are the 4 worst nominees for best picture, not saying they are bad, I just thought they were the least enjoyable, that being said I did like Mank and I really like Sound of Metal. You should watch the other nominees too, they’re amazing imo.
Sean can you pleaseeeeeee rank all of the Best picture winner ranked (1970-2021) ik this is 51 movies but if you did this that video would be amazinggggggg
Edit: i said 1970-2021 bc ranking almost 100 movies would be tough and some of them are so old idek if they are available
Yea I think 1970 would be the best cutoff point. Movies began to feel a lot more modern in the 70s

Can I ask why the father is really low?
@@tracealyea5841 I thought it was really good. I just liked the other four movies more. The father just got too real for me.
I’ve dealt with people who have dementia. The father is an all too accurate portrayal of that.
To give an idea, there’s a huge gap between my top 5 and number 6
@@charliebushman9877 I’d probably have Nomadland at the bottom. Too much like a documentary and the main character didn’t really have an objective. She just lost her husband and house and decided to live a life in a van. It wasn’t a horrible movie, just something I’d never go back and see again.
Here’s my ranking:
1. The Father
2. Sound of Metal
3. Minari
4. Trial of the Chicago 7
5. Judas and the Black Messiah
6. Promising Young Woman
7. Nomadland
8. Mank
