    I usually only keep male betta per each of my 5G tanks. But the Celestial Pearl Danios are also really neat, don't grow uncontrollably large, and are Hardy. Also Endlers may be a good choice, or the Microrasbora. Those would be my top picks since a 5G is quite limited in terms of stocking

    I'm so happy to see White Clouds getting some love, I had a huge group of about 13 or so in my community tank and they just have this lovely personality. I've heard people refer to them as "the poor man's neon tetra" and I definitely agree! My males displayed to each other constantly, as you say, and they move wonderfully in a shoal at the top and middle of my tank! I had no idea they were extinct in the wild! What a shame...I've got even more of an incentive to keep them now! I've been watching a lot of your recommendations for fish as I'm upgrading my tank, so I definitely need some ideas to co-op with my existing fish. I appreciate it a lot :D

      @@missdollface27 You cycle your tank regardless of what you're stocking. Typically, with an ammonia source and additional bacteria added it takes about 2 weeks.
      Also, do not get white clouds for a 5 gallon. They are extremly active.

    My top 5 for a 5 gallon:
    Male Betta
    Guppies (three at most)
    Pea Puffer
    African Dwarf Frog
    Scarlet Badis

I stared with 3 in a 5g and they did fine (and were really entertaining!), but in the 29 with a big school, they're really amazing. My 5g short list: betta, neo shrimp, pond snails. I have 4 glowlight tetras in a 10, they may do just as well in a 5. Never had the green neons, but have thought about making a small tank/scape with them.

      Both of those fish are too small for a 5 gallon. Pygmy cories need at least 10 gallons and otos need at least 10 gallons for a pair but if you want ehm to be happy then they should be kept in large groups. They can not be kept alone and 5 gallons is too small for 2 of them.

      We had the same problem with fried chicken and, well, uh, unfried chicken! We bought a small farm, and just had to hatch chickens! We would hide KFC when we ate outside! But 6 months later when 13 of the 19 hatched eggs turned out to be roosters......we had to rehome them! We couldn't "send them to freezer camp", like good farmers do. No, we sent them to a half million dollar mansion with half the property line on the waterfront at the lake! The dang roosters are still living better than us!!! LOL!! SO- pass the salmon and the lemon pepper, and a few shrimp for me too!!

    I’m curious as to why you would recommend tetras in a 5g considering they’re such active fish and utilize so much space for swimming.
    Something like a 20 long seems much more ideal. You can definitely keep them alive but it’s living vs thriving. Thoughts?

      The same could be said for anything right? Why keep fish in something smaller than 800g? Or 10,0000g or even take them out of the wild?
      People are going to put fish into containers. These are some recommendations based on the size of container they have their mind set on putting fish in.

    • @andrewhernandez1275
      @andrewhernandez1275 6 років тому +8

      Austen Whitcher some tetras are actually very innactive and just shoal "hang out" barley searching for food at feeding time and even then they just slowly pick around. Some tetras on the other hand are very active as you say small but energetic. Guess we got some advice and got more research to do if we plan on getting those tetras he recommended.

    • @andrewhernandez1275
      @andrewhernandez1275 6 років тому +4

      Ben Jay i agree, i first had my 10g with 5 glowlight and 5 neon tetras. I understood the small space so i created many visual blocks and small areas to swim through and they were very active and always breeding but now that ive got a 40g i have near 10 glowlights and 10 neons with corydoras and a blue gourami and some platys but my tetras now just group up and hang out in groups only interacting with themselves instead of the whole tank which is 4x larger than the original home and their group is larger too but now theyre too shy to swim around. In conclusion, the smaller tank made them more comfortable than the larger tank and they swam more and seemed much more joyful, now they just look lazy.

    I am surprised you said all these can go in a 5 gallon. I thought the only things that can be in a 5 gallon is 1 betta, or 1 pea puffer, or 1 african dwarf frog, or shrimp, or small snails, and thats about it. I thought green neons wouldn't work as they are active schooling fish so 5 would be too small. The same goes with rosy loaches and the white clouds as they are very active swimmers. Am I wrong about this cory? I know bigger is more ideal but is it okay to keep these in a 5?
    Would love to have 5 green neons and a few rosy loaches in a 5 or a scarlet badis with 5 green neons. Is this actually viable? Thanks.

      It's not hard to add salt to water - I'd stick with that. The only problem I see with the size is if you decide want to add a lady friend for him down the road, but guess you can pick up a 10 later on if so. Either way, be sure to add a Buddha statue and/or temple with bamboo for Zen so he stays chill and doesn't freak out too much, and you should be good.

This video may help me, my mom wants another (smaller) aquarium, and wants something different than another Betta. I won't keep Bettas in less than five gallons, but she was thinking just a five with tetras or something. I'd love also a stocking/variety list for a 20 and/or a 10, as I want another Aquarium but in the 20ish range. I'm still waiting and looking forward to the shirt you said you'd send me during the Thanksgiving live stream! I did email editor as instructed. I'm super stoked about it! Being stuck at home and leaving my fish job because of medical issues is hard, but I really love your videos and they give me a bright spot in my days!
