  • On Earth, arthropods such as crustaceans, spiders, and insects constitute as much as eighty percent of all animal species. Their diversity of species, bodyplans, and niches is even greater on Kaimere, given regular harvest coupled with independent clades evolving on the planet.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

I think a magic colony that increases blood or oxygen efficiency and allows creatures to grow larger over their life time, would be pretty simple. So a basic enlargement spell could be fairly common, and I think it should be extra effective against bugs. 🐜

This episode is just amazing. Everything in it...
The history, the ecosystem evolution, the Arthropods are the corner stone of said history and ecosystems over all these million of years.
The fact that this episode led to an amazing revelation, made my day.
Also, I knew that Kaimere is an amazingly complex world, but this is definitely its biggest charm. To delve this deep in a project shows how it is, undoubtedly, the most amazing speculative evolution seed world. It's an honor for me to see how this project, which at first was a curiosity for me, turned into a hope inducing weekly doses in my harshest of times, evolve this much.

On Objecia, arthropods have still been diverse. With many ants, spiders, trilobites, crabs, scorpions, butterflies, and more. Due to Objecia having higher oxygen levels than Earth, some arthropods have grown gigantic like the great blue butterfly, which has a wingspan the size of a toddler. And a sea scorpion the size of a minke whale.

Hi, regarding conifers acid soil pH preferences mentioned around 20:30.
Conifers (which is a parafiletic group of gimnosperms) does not seem to prefer acidic soils as whole.
Preference to a certain soil pH evolves and changes many times in all plant groups. Meaning that kaimire's conifers could have many species adapted to many different soil pHs, like we see today, for example:
"Cupressaceae" contains a species adapted to acid soils as well as to basic soils and neutral soils.
Therefore angiosperms and gimnosperms in Kaimire would have a wide range of species adapted to both pHs, and unless those conifer forest where very acidic in most of their extension (which would be unlikely).
This assumtion may come from observing modern conifer forests which are more common in northern latitudes where they are adapted to more acidic conditions in general. But they are adapted not adapted for acid soils because any preference within the gimnosperms for acidity.
Thanks for your time. And sorry for any spelling mistakes.

    • @TalesofKaimere
      @TalesofKaimere  9 місяців тому +1

Appreciate the insight! My experience is indeed with modern conifer forests. Certainly not my area of expertise. I know angiosperm-dominant rainforests also have very low soil pH so it's not something exclusive to gymnosperms, I just assumed there was a general gymnosperm preference. Clearly something I need to study further!

It's was a WONDERFULL episode as always ! And a Great Introduction to Arthropods on Kaimere !
It's was an obligation (and something obvious for all of us, your dear followers) to made a general overview and natural history of arthropods on Kaimere, due to how of a extremely complex mess and lmost infinite ocean their phylogenetic is (and that isn't an understement on top of that !)
And even here for this episode, I guess you still have struggled a lot to yourself understand what the subjects was for each groups mentionned (so my personnal praises for this work here)
But now that is done, now it will be possible to focus on specifics families overtime, step by step, over the future sponsors on the already mentionned groups or the ones left on the sides.
Ended up as a welcomed sub-series on these wonderfull, yet often underestimated critters, that are these several legged micro-organisms ! :)

Out of curiosity, how far back in the history of Kaimere (as a project) do whipcraw and conifer mites go? And how changed are they or are they not from the original conception?
Excited to see the ants next week! Keep up the fantastic work!

      @TalesofKaimere  9 місяців тому +4

We got trilobites in 2 weeks! Lots to cover I just didn't get any art finished before this had to air so it will be saved for their own episode.
Whipcraw and conifer mites go back over a decade in very basic concepts. I think whipcraw as a clade independent on Kaimere was while I was in undergrad, but a lot of the clades were conceived in high school, so 2004-2008. Conifer mites are older, being my first fake bug alongside the whip mantises, and actually predated the studies nesting termites within cockroaches (though I later read that had been theorized since the 1930's just hadn't been confirmed until 2008).

This episode on Arthropods is extremely welcomed, enjoyable and great for quite a lot of good/relevants reasons !
Mainly because it acknowledge, mention, explain, depict and put forward one of the type of, but not the least, group of Micro-Fauna, and one of the most famous, successfull, complex itself and important to the ecosystem itself !
And the fact that this episode is part of a Spec Evo project and display speculative evolution organisms of this said category add even more of the hype and honors created by it already !
Reasons why are simple and pretty well know : Insects and Arthropods are extremely often overlooked in most Spec Evo Projects and settings, always at the favor of the bigger fauna between the size of a Mouse to Sauropods sized species.
Unless there almost any see zero vertebrates in a setting, Speculative Evolution domain don't even give a single fuck to Arthropods.
And when it did, its often brief and rare.
In comparison, I read most see all of "Serina : The World of Birds", a Big name in Spec Evo so, and despite how extremely long, extremely developped it is, and the tons of species displayed and describes from A to Z, there at best (no kidding, I let you know) only 2-3 speculative Arthropods species shown. As background or brief threat elements.
A burrowing cricket, a army of ants floating at the surface of the sea, and giant terrestrial crab-like species as far I remember.
Despite how the base list of seeded organisms is, it either about birds or either marine or land fishes.
At this point, a part of a Spec Evo about Arthropods is an oasis in the middle of the desert....
This is why this video is whithout any doubts one of the best you made so far ! 👍

Currently titanosaurs. They are second to humans in terms of climate impact and their acidic dung has reshaped a lot of the soil composition. All that said, pollinators have a huge impact just might fall short of titans, which are also pollinators and seed dispersers/fertilizers

Going to have to spend a lot of work developing entirely unique musical instruments and genres.
