    Night fishing is tough for the first night. Once you go mousing you will understand the level of fish activity that happens after the sun goes down. The biggest fish are most active after the sun goes down and when you hook one on a mouse it sounds like a big toilet flushing. Nice video. I especially like the comment about drifting by a lodge catching big fish while the dry fly guys are sound asleep. Let the purists rest up while you are hooked up!

    Ya I tried mousing and all I could do is get them to bump it. Might have been bringing it in too fast. Switched to streamers and killed it. Might try it again watching this video. Love night fishing!! The big ones are out and other fishers are sleeping 😂

    Every big brown (25"+) have personally caught or have seen caught have been at night sans a 26" Brown caught around noon my my eldest brother on Utah's East Canyon creek in the Summer of '84. He caught his limit before 7 AM and always had his alloted two 20+" fish per regulation. The grandest brown I ever saw taken was on the Beaverhead in Western, MT in 1977 by a fellow who said he was a fireman; he helped rescue my brother who walked down the Clark Canyon Dam spillway after it rained needed rescue. The sun had dissapeared and he was fishing mid-river and was soon surrounded by everyone with a monster brown that came up to my seven year old armpits.

    Would honestly like to know: why do people who make fishing videos, regardless of species or location, insist on including either bluegrass or heavy metal (or similar) music? Have we had enough yet?

    • @AmberWaves444
      @AmberWaves444 6 років тому +1

      Dave Wheelock I so agree with you! I've seen so many fishing channel vids on UA-cam that are ruined by this frigging head banger music. They think it makes their clip more exciting and cool with that added. They couldn't be more wrong, considering that more older folks, like me, are watching!

      honestly i kinda need help with everything ive been using an old cabela's reel that was handed down to me and an old rod too but im not very good at casting and i dont really know how to improve

    • @awesomeabsol
      @awesomeabsol 9 років тому

      First off, there is nothing wrong with old gear :). However, if you're looking for new stuff, I would ask your local fly shop for any gently used rods and reels. As for brands, Lamson makes awesome reels that are relatively inexpensive. Redington and even Cabela's makes good stuff as well. Definitely don't buy anything online without testing it first though. Second, if you're looking for casting tips, UA-cam is a wonderful place to start and practice makes perfect. Go into your backyard and put a piece of yarn on a leader and go through the motions. A bit of practice everyday really does go a long way and helps keep the knots out when you're actually fishing.
      Anyways, definitely talk with your local fly shop. I've found fellow fly guys are some of the nicest people around and are always willing to help new guys. Cheers :)

    • @rsantos627
      @rsantos627 5 років тому

      If I could go back I would re-prioritize what I invested more in. The order would be 1. fly lines 2. rod 3. reel 4. Buying lots of flies. The temptation is reels. They get a lot of attention. Then flies.....(or maybe that was just me) I have been fly fishing awhile now and just upgraded my fly lines and wow! Casting is so much better!

    How is it the guide's biggest trout on a major river system was only 27"? I've caught 29" browns from a creek less than 3 feet wide..

    • @ZGADOW
      @ZGADOW 7 років тому +5

      you're probably lucky to fish a river that's exceptional. A 29" brown is literally the fish of a lifetime in most locations. Also , if you're using spin gear you have a slight advantage in some ways. Either way, you should be grateful you caught a 29" brown. With any gear in any location that's impressive.

    • @OfficialArland
      @OfficialArland 7 років тому +1

      Primarily I fish on the fly, and most my trout 25"+ have been caught on fly rod. The creeks I fish are nothing spectacular, just some small spring fed systems snaking around the panhandle of Nebraska.

    • @phoult37
      @phoult37 7 років тому +2

      I've caught big browns on small creeks as well, but those creeks feed into very large rivers like the St. Croix and Mississippi. Browns will winter over in rivers traditionally too warm for them and then move back into the creeks in the summer. Not sure where exactly your at, but you might have a similar situation.

    not wild browns. browns are native to Eurasia.

    • @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj
      @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj 5 років тому +4

      do you not understand the definition of the word wild? .Native and wild obviously mean two different things. A Wild brown trout is a brown that was born in wild..... Many trout in North america haven't been stocked in over a century. They are breeding on there own in the WILD. Thus they are WILD fish and no brown are not native to north america
      Heres the definition of WILD ; 1 (of an animal or plant) living or growing in the natural environment; not domesticated or cultivated.
      2 (of a place or region) uninhabited, uncultivated, or inhospitable.
