I remember when this first aired, I was walking to school in like 10° F weather and my hands were like completely frozen and I looked down at my phone to see the smile were live streaming so I needed to listen immediately
Johnny repositioning the monitor with his foot is 100% relatable to anyone who has ever practiced with their band. What is less relatable is how fucking rad and layered this jam is. I would never desire to play the bass synth with my foot and the bass guitar with my hands simultaneously. Id want Thoms job. He probably forgot half of his own lyrics, but it doesnt matter cuz it sounded cool.
....... do thom and Johnny switch guitar duty depending on the song? Could’ve sworn the footage I saw before Johnny was on guitar. Thom writes such amazing bass lines (national anthem, rabbit in your headlights just to name a couple iconic ones) I was hoping he might leave the bulk of guitar duties to Johnny. Either way, CAN’T WAIT to hear the album. Really loved ANIMA, (thom’s output over the last decade has been pretty impressive - I know a lot of people didn’t really like Atoms For Peace or Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes tho I sure did) but I love the idea of a stripped down trio too!!!
Is that an electric *viola*? (I don't even, I know it's a guitar, but wow playing it with a bow. If it exists Jonny will play it and if it doesn't he will invent it)
Not to diminish Johnny’s total genius, and the smile’s AMAZING songs (so far). But I remember seeing Sigur Ros on the tour for their first album in 1999, and the singer/guitarist played almost exclusively with a bow. In fact I’m pretty damned sure Johnny used a bow on Pyramid Song, and he definitely used the not stringy side of the bow for Burn The Witch. Sounds cool tho huh!
Also plays with Graham Coxon, Grace Jones, Jarvis Cocker, Joy Crookes, Melt Yourself Down, Matthew Herbert, Zero 7, Floating Points, Beth Orton, Eska, Mulatu Astatke, The Invisible, John Surman, Batida, Alexander Hawkins, Byron Wallen, Steve Beresford, Toshio Matsuura
I do like the live stream approach but wish we were getting soundboard audio too instead of smartphone mic. Sophie Ellis-Bextor can do it from her kitchen, don't think it would be beyond these guys...
I feel like I'm hiding in a closet and secretly watching them...well done.
a Blue Velvet feel
My favorite closet.
@@sleedeal8010 FOR SURE!
I reckon 'Blue Eyed Fox' is actually Thom's pet name for Daniel Stashkin.
I need the album NOW
DITTO
there are 2 songs out now, did you hear it?
agreed
@@shuggielaufquen8371 Around 14 with the live broadcast at the weekend together with the last year Glastonbury studio show. All brilliant music
Maybe in 2023...
It's Mr Magpie extended and reinvented. It sounds awesome.
I was more thinking about These Are My Twisted Words, very similar
@@AL-he5pb it's both. After another listen.
Ah yes, that's why it sounded familiar
maybe a touch of "follow me around" chorus
Con razon me gusta tanto que belleza de tema
These guys literally keep the world alive with hope in their music 🎶🤣
You might want to look up the meaning of 'literally'.
probably my favourite from the album
Holy shit what a drummer!
I remember when this first aired, I was walking to school in like 10° F weather and my hands were like completely frozen and I looked down at my phone to see the smile were live streaming so I needed to listen immediately
It’s the perfect time to drop out FYI
@@JonathanNelsonOfficial nah stay in school bud. Get paid
Very nice, I like it. 💕 Couldn't help but expect Jim Morrison to start singing " this is the end ", it soon passed.🐱♏🏴
go listen Do Make Say Think, or Godspeed you! Black Emperor LPs. probably you will love it.
Cheers, I will@@qwerrievala🙂
@@suzycat2026 this gives me very solid post-rock vibes (same way as 'these are my twisted words'). cheers!
I don’t think Thom has great history with who Jim Morrison was
Right??!! Good ears.. I was trying to figure out what it was I was hearing and that's it!
Still my favourite arrangement of this one
it even has some "Swans" vibes at the very end, I love it!
This is my fav from the smile so far
This is King of Limbs as fuck
It's like an evolution of TKOL
The first couple of minutes sounded like this is the End, The Doors. Crazy
love this, wow! thank you Daniel Stashkin!
shame on you... for filming vertical video
SO DAMN GOOD. Thank you.
Bodysnatchers meets Mr Magpie : )
Can’t wait till they release this.... Top comments are right... Magpie/Twisted Words. Wonder how the album song will sound compared to live...
Body wide chills💗 🙌🎶🧠🌌🙏 thank you so very very much🙏
Hope you feel better soon 🤗 💕 only jesting 🐱🏴

I know nothing bout this kind of stuff, learned a bit of piano in an irregular way, but completely agree

You are correct with your assumption. They do indeed switch instruments
@@iTzAtaXi sweet.
They did at the weekend London live shows as well
Is that an electric *viola*? (I don't even, I know it's a guitar, but wow playing it with a bow. If it exists Jonny will play it and if it doesn't he will invent it)
Actually, he's playing a bow on his electric Bass (Greenwood)

absolutely can't wait to hear what they release
They played 15 tracks at the weekend London broadcast shows, so definitely ready for an album release. Show lasted 1hr 18 min

The hell, so Jonny’s basically a fluent bass player too.
This is the best holiday present possible!!
But who is on drums???
Tom Skinner! He is also drummer of Sons of Kemet.

Does anyone know what that pedal thing Jonny is using is?
I think it's a "Studiologic MP-117 MIDI Foot Controller Pedal Board"
He is certainly using a pedal he made himself ..
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.
That intro reminds me so much to Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Another great band i totally recommend.
Love Johnny Greenwoods background sound. This song needs work but could be brilliant.
Your good!
With my help you could be the best 🍒

For some reason I think of the doors.
Yes, me too @Tracy Jung , expected Jim to sing this is the end for a second there ☺

Grimes? Not here!
I hope it comes near christmas
