He was a legit piece of shit. Your anecdotal evidence doesn't mean anything, and it's absurd that you're using "he was nice to his fans!!" and "everyone has problems!!" to absolve him of his frankly insane and wildly abusive relationship with his partner. Him punching Hogan in this story reflects poorly on him, too. If a woman runs away from her partner and goes somewhere to hide, only a lowlife would blow her cover.

I once saw Randy (or, if it wasn't him, it was his clone) passing by in the Atlanta airport in '99: we were waiting to board our plane (we were coming back from vacation in Hawaii, and this was our 3rd and final plane transfer), and I saw him walk by. He had a bandanna on top of his head, and was walking with a hot blonde (Gorgeous George maybe?). I was tempted to run up to him and ask for an autograph or something, but I figured, "no, just let the guy alone. He's on his personal time, and he's probably mobbed by fans constantly. Let him have his peace". So I said and did nothing, and he quickly passed by and was gone. I figured, since it was in Atlanta, maybe he had been to the WCW office. In any case, I was actually happier that I DIDN'T interrupt him and let him enjoy his privacy.

Every story I have ever heard about Savage, is he was the most polite, took time for all fans (within reason), and was exceptionally professional (coming from directors/writers who used him for voice over). He always wanted to give people what they paid for, the director a perfect take, and the fans a memory.
Yes, if you went up and trolled him with stupid shit, he would snap on you. When it came to Elizabeth, he was a psycho. I think we all have something like that we are obsessed with. His was a person, it was healthy through the 80s and mid 90s, but he did reconcile it before they both passed.
He deserved so much more from wrestling. Even thou he didn’t get it, he made sure to give what he thought we deserved.

According to DDP, leading up to their march at Sturgis, Arn came in and asked Randy what he wanted to do for the finisher. “You know, I think I want the take the Diamond Cutter tonight.”
Sure enough he did and the crowd popped. Bigly! “I guess we know what our finish is gonna be” Randy said to Page after the match.
I’ve never heard anyone ever say Randy wouldn’t do business. He knew when to go over and when to put people over. He knew what was best for business. And sometimes, like with DDP, he just wanted to see what would happen.

I was lucky enough to see Macho Man in person once. Way back in 2001 at a video game tournament. The guy was larger than life man. He was walking around by himself and he had like an orbit of respect/fear around him. Nobody came within two feet. I saw him every so often after I got eliminated.

Hogan was the top babyface in the 80s that vince was completely relying on in getting the vision where he wanted his company to go and to accomplish. He basically went "All in" with Hogan as the the babyface. So of COURSE Macho the heel is not going to go over Hogan.
Jake the Snake: You don't go against the golden goose.
Then in the 90's the reason why heel Hogan went over Macho is due to the fact...you guessed it, at that point in time, it was the "heel" dynamic/tweener dynamic that was what was in, and as we all know, as the heel in WCW, Hogan was the Golden Goose for WCW. So...of COURSE Hogan was going to go over Savage. Could Savage have held the title longer? Sure. Blame the bookers.

--Hogan was the top babyface in the 80s that vince was completely relying on in getting the vision where he wanted his company to go and to accomplish.
--Jake the Snake: You don't go against the golden goose.
Then...go into more detail when they actually did build someone that could/did rival/eclipse Hogan's popularity---Warrior. Then look at how business was when Warrior became the champ and focal point while Hogan started to do a lesser schedule in order to try to do things outside WWF. Warrior wasn't doing business as well as Hogan did. Which of course led to the course of Vince having Warrior lose the title and face Savage and having Hogan face the champ Sgt. Slaughter to become champ once again.
And...in even MORE detail. Warrior and Savage face off in a retirement match where Savage as well started to have more of a lighter schedule and become more of a color commentator. So yea...didn't make sense for Savage to go over Hogan at that particular time.
