  • This is a short 2-minute tutorial and demo about using the ArcGIS Pro Transfer Attribute tool. A quick and easy way to update geometry and attributes on an existing layer from a secondary layer, without the need to do intermediate steps or re-attribute, and this is a more efficient option compared to the traditional delete/copy/paste edit workflow.
ArcGIS Pro Transfer Attribute Tool Tutorial
    Blake McKinley - 7/20/2022
    Intro:
This video will demonstrate the ArcGIS Pro Transfer Attribute Tool, which is a powerful tool that allows you to update an existing feature geometry and attributes from an alternate source.
    Scenario:
For this demo, the scenario is we have an existing reforestation unit that has a robust set of attributes filled out, but the unit needed to be adjusted spatially using a geoprocessing task that produced an intermediate output feature class with the new shape. This new shape is shown here with a purple and black dashed outline. We need to update the shape in our corporate reforestation units feature service shown here with a green fill, and the Attribute Transfer tool will allow us to just update the shape, but retain the 25 complex tabular attributes we don’t want to change.
    Workflow:
    • In the Contents Pane, First make sure that the source feature which is the one with the new shape and the target feature which is the one you are trying to update are the only selectable layers in the map.
    • Then hit the Edit tab, and in the Edit ribbon expand the Tools section, and select the Attribute Transfer tool.
    • From the Modify Features pane you will first set the Field Mapping
o Hit the hamburger to open the Field Mapping properties
o Set the source and target layers
o Then set fields you want to transfer, in this scenario we are transferring the shape, comments and acres fields. The shape field is what transfers the geometry.
    • Close the Field Mapping, and then ensure the tool is highlighted blue in the Modify Features Pane
o First, select a spot within the source feature
o Second, select a spot within the target feature
o Then you will see the shape update. The labels on the right show the acres attribute has been updated.
    • Save your edits, you are done, and I hope this tutorial helps you save some time
