My wife loves Gyruss, so while visiting my daughter I play this video on the big screen. My daughter and her husband (both in their 30's) were cracking up. They loved Joe's humor, and they love video games. So much they went to lyons arcade website and was looking at all the games you have. Iris got excited when she read "We deliver" I told her I didn't think they would deliver to Indiana. Anyway just wanted to tell you how much everyone enjoyed watching. Biggest laugh was leaving the screw in the cabinet, right there. Don't leave me forget where it is. 😂 Magic dust, are you excited?
Me and my buddies played Gyruss back in the day. And all the usual games like Scrambler, Qbert, Donkey Kong, 1942, Galaga, Pengo, and a really obscure one called Bagman. Those were good days! Nice restore, keep up the awesome content.
Thanks for the video, Joe! I remember Gyruss as the game that sort of reminds of Tempest because of the unique viewpoint, although I don't recall if the two arcades I used to go to had a machine or not. I do like the music on it. I always enjoyed those games that you could hear and recognize just by the sounds.
Love your videos and always learn something. Turn the flyback up then adjust the background to be grey, *then* turn down the flyback. Makes total sense! Never knew the upside down bezel was a thing on this game but did a quick Google image search and sure enough, at least half of them are upside down! Fond memories of playing Gyruss in my youth. Great game.
🤔 Experienced? Yup, Joe, you sure have a lot of knowledge in your head with details like the odd button colors, spotting an upside-down bezel, and the odd T-molding - stuff a lot of people would miss! Educational. 🤓 Cleaned up really nice! It would definitely empty my wallet - fun game! 😎
Iconic 1983! That is one great game! I use a bit of Synthetic grease in my Monroe joysticks. Keeps them running smooth. Arcade shop is offering a pretty good reproduction now too! I enjoyed the video! I do remember Gyrus! That music sticks with you and amps you up!
I have always loved the music for this game. It is so fitting. Here is the information regarding the music that I obtained from Wikipedia. The game's background music is an electronic, uptempo arrangement of J. S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565; this particular track is similar to "Toccata", a rock arrangement by the UK-based instrumentalist group Sky. Gyruss uses stereo sound, which according to the bonus material for Konami Arcade Classics, was achieved by utilizing discrete audio circuits. The audio system consists of five 3-voice General Instrument AY-3-8910A sound chips.
I remember watching them. Gyrus was awesome 👍 I remember playing it in a pizza shop down the street from my school I remember playing hooky and at lunch I snuck out and went to the pizza shop in the strip mall.
I loved this game. I enjoyed jamming out to the music. Between that and the monitor right up in your face, it was a rockin' good time. The Atari 5200 was about the only home system that could replicate this game properly. Thanks for the video.
I played this game a lot, when it was in a nearby convenience store. And yes, the bezel was inverted. LOL. Congrats on the Amiga find. Still my three Amigas, two 1000s, and a 2000HD. Even have the amiga monitor, but it's gone fuzzy, and dim, after storing it in the wrong environment for 20 years. Dang it. LOL. Thanks for the video! :)
My god if i could buy it off you i would. Loved this game when i was a kid. The music and sounds took me right back to when i was 10yrs old every weekend at the arcade..
What did y'all do in the days before magic erasers. I used all kinds of cleaners on a formica stain and the magic eraser was the only thing that worked. That was about 10 years ago and now I buy em in bulk at Costco. Thanks for the video and have a great weekend!
You can always tell this game, double dragon and pole position are in an arcade due to their attract music/SFX. Such a great game Gyruss - put many a coin into it as a kid flying back to earth! Sadly the arcade machines in the local pubs have gone the way of the dodo - either not cared for (Getaway High Speed II pinball with blockage on inner RPM loop), or replaced with gambling dens full of poker machines as they make more profit for the pub than a pinny or arcade cab. Two machines I did see in good condition were a Fish Tales and Elvira. Both were two states away in Tasmania (I live in Sydney, Australia), so it was a nice surprise to play some pinball while on holidays! Even the few arcades here a full of kiddie gambling games like key master etc.
I remember Gyruss well, one of my favourites back in the 80's. Arcades used to have them turned up loud because the sound was so good compared to earlier games. I used to like Juno First too.
Do I remember Gyruss? Heck yeah, I do. I put many a quarter in that game back in the day. I still think the controls on that game are one of the best feeling of any of the old classics. And seeing you playing that game got me nostalgia enough to get it fired up on my Steam Deck. 84,460 on my second game. Beat you, sucka!
I grew up in the arcades. I always liked Gyruss mainly for the music and sound design. I think the cabinet i played the most was at the St. John's Movie Theatre.
Beautiful machine! You know, I feel I have to constantly stress to many longtime arcade collectors not to begrudge or bemoan Arcade1up or those who have entered the hobby through them. Some do not have the space, capital, or know-how to collect and maintain authentic or full-size cabs. They're a good entrypoint into the hobby, and a half-decent alternative for those who do not have the means otherwise. In my case, I live in Japan. Space is far more limited, and the prospect of owning a full-size, original Tempest is nothing but a pipe-dream, and would cost an arm and a leg to acquire if one could even find a supplier willing to send it overseas. Luckily, here I have easy access to SEGA and Capcom candy cabs, but those universal cabs, while charming in their own right, lack the gorgeous side-art, marquees, and control panels of classic western cabs. Thankfully, thanks to Arcade1Up, it is possible for me to own a "Tempest" cab, even if it is only a 3/4 the size.
Amiga was when they were trying to get into the real computer market. IBM and the Clones when the 286s came out, that was the turning point. For a while Radio Shack had IBM compatible 386 machines and I remember when they sold actual IBMs, the first Pentiums, 60 mhz and they were really expensive. 2000 dollars. That was the last that RS was selling computers The Internet made it so easy to buy computer parts and CompUSA also did RS in. It just blows my mind how these huge cabinets with all the boards and power supply now can run off a tiny board not much higger that 4 stamps. Just incredible
Played Gyruss at the 7eleven back in the 80's... far out!!! Year 1983 was a special year where you collect the 1983 series 7eleven Slurpee cups that had different Arcade Games on the cups Played the home console version on the ATARI 800 XL a lot as well.
Gyruss is one of my top 2 games... The other being Gaplus. I had it on my commodore 64, very close conversion, music and all. I had a joystick with a turbo button so it would auto-fire.
Beautiful machine. Looking at vids today to see why mine no longer has sound - was working fine but then in storage for over a year and then moved on a 100km drive and no sound.
1983 Konami/centuri and there was a fantastic NES Port of this game that has the missing planets Venus Mercury and Pluto also the final boss is at the Sun and I finally completed that ports all because of a little score I needed to settle
the laundrymat down the street from my elem. school had a bunch of arcade machines pac-man galaga joust centipede donkey kong and many more but for some reason i spent most of my time after school playing gyruss at the laundrymat...in fact if i was home by dinner my parents woulld call the owners and tell them to send me home for dinner. EDITED: FYI the laundrymat was sold around 2010-2012 it was torn down and an apartment complex was built on that spot.
I wish my gyruss would work. It boots, plays but the 1/2 of the sounds are screwed up. Also it is a bootleg board.. still dunno what is wrong with it. Btw do you have a gaplus parts board? Looking for a couple custom chips...
Haha "Please deposit coin and try this game" (displayed on attract mode) - someone must have tried to improve upon the typical "Insert Coin" call to action.
Gyruss had a great port on the Commodore 64. We played it a lot. The music and graphics where really good on the commodore. It was a hard game. There is a free PC version that you can download . New Gyruss.
Whatever happened to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? :) 20:01 "Please deposit coin and try this game"... strange thing for it to say when it's in Free Play mode
You don't have to use the microphones built into your cameras or phone. You can get yourself an external setup, wired or wireless (which would also allow you to have consistent audio quality no matter what camera you're using).
My wife loves Gyruss, so while visiting my daughter I play this video on the big screen. My daughter and her husband (both in their 30's) were cracking up. People ship games anywhere, it is not as difficult as you think...
I heard “not broke” than immediately thought i was broke 🤣 Nice color adjustment as always! Keep up the good work!
just hearing that little jingle on the attract mode took me right back...
Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Fantastic sound track, volume up, lights down - awesome memories
Just bought a Gyruss last night, perfect timing with the 4900 adjustments. Never messed with one, so thank you for the tips!
Me and my buddies played Gyruss back in the day. And all the usual games like Scrambler, Qbert, Donkey Kong, 1942, Galaga, Pengo, and a really obscure one called Bagman. Those were good days! Nice restore, keep up the awesome content.

It's a cross between that Atari game and Bally-Midway/Namco's Galaga.

Great game. One of my all time favorites. Spent a ton of money getting to Earth back in the day.
🤔 Experienced? Yup, Joe, you sure have a lot of knowledge in your head with details like the odd button colors, spotting an upside-down bezel, and the odd T-molding - stuff a lot of people would miss! Educational. 🤓

Came out nice Joe! Ready for the next owner! You guys have a nice weekend!
"Not Broke"!?
Good thing I was sitting down!

Sanford & Son was last aired on 1977. I bet 50% of this audience is too young to remember this reference 🤣
Not me
Sanford & Son will live long after any of us will
Sanford and Son has never screened here in New Zealand
I remember watching them.
Gyrus was awesome 👍
I remember playing it in a pizza shop down the street from my school
I remember playing hooky and at lunch I snuck out and went to the pizza shop in the strip mall.
I'm sure there were re-runs after '77...?
Back in the day,the arcade in my mall called Galaxy had Gyruss. Great game! Played this a lot on the NES As well!
A Gyruss and a very nice looking Amiga. Win win!, thanks as always, have a nice weekend.
Now I'm going to look for the upside-down bezel every time I see a Gyruss.
Maybe they thought it was faster to install it that way. You can hold it up by the cross piece and not let the "legs" get crushed, or something.
I loved this game. I enjoyed jamming out to the music. Between that and the monitor right up in your face, it was a rockin' good time. The Atari 5200 was about the only home system that could replicate this game properly. Thanks for the video.
I think the NES did a pretty good job
Love this game. Played it when I was a kid. Remember Sanford and Son, too!
Made me laugh pretty hard with your red foxx impression Joe, and I'm surprised, I thought that was a commodore colt at first, not an amiga🤣
Loved Gyruss at the Spacestation, Independence Mall in Wilmington NC.
Gyruss was and is a gret game! One of my favorites now.
Get the My Arcade mini Arcades 😅😂😂with Nes-Roms😅😂😂😂
I played this game a lot, when it was in a nearby convenience store. And yes, the bezel was inverted. LOL. Congrats on the Amiga find. Still my three Amigas, two 1000s, and a 2000HD. cool arcade cabinte . I like the cool music and the
vibrant colors on the color screen.
👍👍👍🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Keep these machines alive. Thankyou
I love the music track on this game and I just about fell off the couch with the Elizabeth reference!
Gyruss is one of my all time favorites. :)
My god if i could buy it off you i would. Loved this game when i was a kid. The music and sounds took me right back to when i was 10yrs old every weekend at the arcade..
Mmm that magic eraser cleaning was very satisfying to see! A wonderful Cabinet!
Gyruss is my favourite arcade from the 80s. great music to get you pumped to play. I prob put enough 20c pieces to have paid for one when i was a kid.
Great work Joe. Another video game dressed for success. Someone is gonna love this game for sure.
Unmistakable attract mode music. You definitely knew that game was in the arcade.
Great game, and I believe one of the first, if not the first with stereo sound.
What did y'all do in the days before magic erasers. I used all kinds of cleaners on a formica stain and the magic eraser was the only thing that worked. That was about 10 years ago and now I buy em in bulk at Costco. Thanks for the video and have a great weekend!
This game has the best sound unless you’re playing on original hardware it just doesn’t sound right. You could always hear it playing in an arcade
Gyruss is one of my all time favorites.
Tempest meets Galaga I guess, another title I've never seen before! Looking forward to the Amiga 1200 video.
You can always tell this game, double dragon and pole position are in an arcade due to their attract music/SFX. Such a great game Gyruss - put many a coin into it as a kid flying back to earth! That A2000 is a thing of beauty, used to have one as a workstation with DPaint IV. Those were the days...
I remember Gyruss well, one of my favourites back in the 80's. Arcades used to have them turned up loud because the sound was so good compared to earlier games. I used to like Juno First too.

If you have played you cannot forget the game sound music. :)
17:40 are you sure the Bezel wasn’t put in that way for the Southern Hemisphere Market? 😂
I have one of these in the original cabinet! Love this game. And my bezel was upside down, I never noticed!
Used to love playing Gyruss in the arcade! Still play it to this day on my Commodore 64! ✌️😜
I used to play the heck outta Gyruss, Sinistar and Mad Planets.
There's a lot of game boards that you can plug right in an play. Only one fire button though. Time Pilot is another favorite that works.
Loved Gyruss! I would love to have it!
Love the Amiga stuff ,looking forward to that video Joe
Beautiful machine!

Definitely remember Gyruss. Played it in Aladdins Castle. I was terrible at it but my friend could play for hours on it.
I played it a lot in high school and moon patrol at a small local store.
OMG, moon patrol!
Gyruss is one of my favorites, though my first exposure to it was on my Commodore 128!
I used to love that game "back in the days." Just like several other games, I dumped a bunch of quarters into that game.
A blast from the past.. Couldn't remember the name but most certainly remember the gameplay. Cool game, I enjoyed it
Johann Sebastian Bach is either rolling in his grave or filing a copyright strike
public domain, brother
@@ethanspencer152I say, that's a joke son...
...(tip of the Hatlo hat to Foghorn Leghorn)...
I remember those 5 1/4 inch Commodore disk sleeves. They used those same ones for Commodore 64.
I remember seeing this in a laundromat. The "please insert coin and try this game" message was weird.
Bought the Parker Bros Gyruss cartridge for the Atari 2600. I'm amazed it's as good as they got it.
most common issue is the video ram . IF you notice the letters upside down in a row vertically in a section you need to look at the video ram.
I wonder if ours are bad?
Yeah! Thumbs up for the amiga! Wooooooo!!!!
It’s the big one! I’m coming for you Elizabeth
Turned out great.
Always thought this was more a sped-up version of Moon Cresta then Galaga.
Played Gyruss at the 7eleven back in the 80's... far out!!! Year 1983 was a special year where you collect the 1983 series 7eleven Slurpee cups that had different Arcade Games on the cups Played the home console version on the ATARI 800 XL a lot as well.
I played the NES version of it
Felt like Space Tempest. Fun game. Play on my 60-1 cocktail cabinet alot..
JOE Classic, various arcade boards will often use chicklet capacitors, any benefits of using chicklet sizes?
Gyruss is one of my top 2 games... The other being Gaplus. I had it on my commodore 64, very close conversion, music and all. I had a joystick with a turbo button so it would auto-fire.
Hey Joe, seems like a cross between Galaga and Tempest.
Beautiful machine. Looking at vids today to see why mine no longer has sound - was working fine but then in storage for over a year and then moved on a 100km drive and no sound.
Check your power supply voltages and the connection to the main board... 12volts is usually used for sound, can't remember if it also has -5volts.
Its NOT broke??? Used to play this game alot in the 80s at arcades and local swimming club that and Moon Patrol and Zippy Racer..great video Joe
my most favourite game of all time, would love find one here in Australia in that condition to put in the games room.
MAGIC DUST! I knew it! 💪👍💪
I thought Gyruss had a spinner, but I've got old man memory.
It originally had a spinner
I played both Galaga and Gyruss, and both of them a ton, back in the day. If I were in the US I would definitely consider buying this game from you :P
I loved this game when I was younger.
1983 Konami/centuri and there was a fantastic NES Port of this game that has the missing planets Venus Mercury and Pluto also the final boss is at the Sun and I finally completed that ports all because of a little score I needed to settle
Gyruss was a fun one. Got pretty hard as ya got closer to Earth.
What? it's not broke? This world is collapsing;..
I loved Gyruss so much
the laundrymat down the street from my elem. school had a bunch of arcade machines pac-man galaga joust centipede donkey kong and many more but for some reason i spent most of my time after school playing gyruss at the laundrymat...in fact if i was home by dinner my parents woulld call the owners and tell them to send me home for dinner.

Oh, I remember!! First stereo arcade game, right?
Loved the absolute crap out of Gyruss. Got the home version for my Atari 8-bit computer. Pretty solid port.
I wish my gyruss would work. It boots, plays but the 1/2 of the sounds are screwed up. Also it is a bootleg board.. still dunno what is wrong with it. Btw do you have a gaplus parts board? Looking for a couple custom chips...

I used to play Gyruss on Konami's Arcade Advanced collection for the GBA, it's a pretty cool game.
I always loved this game! It was a perfect combination of Galaga and Tempest.
You guys have one of those "service mirrors" handy?
"this game is NOT broke"
what the hell channel am i watching???
My favorite arcade machine, Gyruss.
Great game.
If I could have only one game, it would be Gyruss. I play only on mame, I wish I could try cabinet like this one.
Whatever happened to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? :)
20:01 "Please deposit coin and try this game"... strange thing for it to say when it's in Free Play mode
Wait... It's not broke, but the joystick needs TLC, and the monitor needs TLC... I'd say that's broke. 😂
I was not prepared to hear “It is NOT broke”.
You don't have to use the microphones built into your cameras or phone. You can get yourself an external setup, wired or wireless (which would also allow you to have consistent audio quality no matter what camera you're using).
I miss my Amiga 1000. That was a fun machine to code on.
13:57 AMIGAAAAAAAA!
