I'm a certified card carrying 80's mall rat and I've never heard of this game.
Looks like a fun game. Especially when boredom kicks in.
11:35 Wiggle it...just a little bit. I caught that Joe, good one!
I'd never come across nor played that game BITD. Traveled to Galloping Ghost a month ago and they had one there. I really like that game.
This was a rare game for sure, I only ever saw one, in a Chuckie Cheese around '82., right next to the Pengo. Nice save as always!
@0:28 - "We're not old enough to have played it back in the day." That - really surprises me. Not that I have heard of the game, but it came out in 1981. I just assumed that, because of your vast knowledge of vintage games, you would have been around and playing in those days. Even if young. I was going on 12 and we had moved to Oahu, Hi ('79) at the time. Apparently they also brought the game out on the C-64 inm '83.
Ooh, not seen one of these before. Thanks for the video.
Great job guys ! Nice to have an easy one once in a while! Thanks for filming for it us 👍
Must be great when you get a relatively easy one to fix. It wasn’t broke - it was just maladjusted! Happy days.
You have to push the button for high speed to clear the racks and time sequences.
I have NEVER heard of this game and I don't think it is on the 8000 in 1 MAME ROM that Raspberry Pi and other emulators run.
I would seriously pull the chips and save the programs from each chip for future use.
Most games are in the ROM image but this is a rare one
Really great find
JOE, So the RGB Signals from the game board molex connector was plugged into the header pbc pins incorrectly by shifted to the left so the RED signal was never connected at all.
As seen on starcade I have this on my archive list
IT'S BROKE.❤
Such a Underrated game! so cool!
That was fun to watch. That looks like a cool game too!
As someone who has no experience working with arcade games, but I'm a bit of a videophile with my setup at home, are there any options for using test patterns for calibrating these arcade displays instead of approximating it based off the game? I wouldn't expect someone going all the way to using colorimeters, but I'm curious if just plain test patterns ever get used for this.
Thanks as always for the entertainment!
Yes there are some simple little text pattern generators you can hook up to them to help
@@LyonsArcade Ah alright, I had a feeling something along those lines would be the case. I remember when I was a kid, I'd try to freeze the image on a face I thought I knew reasonably well, and then I discovered calibration discs in high school. I might've spent a bit more time adjusting, but at least I had consistent result every time.
Thanks for the reply!
Awesome
Was that Ron inadvertently removing himself from Witnesses Protection at the 4:30 mark?
No, that’s Joe
As the old CRTs disappear, what will be the replacement? Some type of OLED TV units? IPS LCDs? Just wondering since you tend to repair or use older CRTs, but clearly their time is coming to and end? No?
People are hacking LCD screens into them, looks horrible. I just fix the original CRT.
It's apparently been remade for the C64 too... and there is an Italian synthpop project that made a song with the name on their "I Adore Commodore" album... and the inner sleeve even had a basic listing for the song. Anyway it seems that it is not very closely related to the game though. ua-cam.com/video/AmYfch78_Mo/v-deo.html
I’ve been dealt with to many times
This sh*t made me actually laugh out loud.
Yeah that sure looks to be a Tron stick but in black.
The same stick but in red was in Satan's Hollow. One of the all-time great joysticks.
Is GORF in the same category as Solar Fox and Tron?
No GORF ran on the Astrocade boardset like Space Zap and Wizard Of Wor
Thanks!!
THRUST! WEEEEOOOOOWEEEEEE
Well he didn't lie. It is broke XD
Yodelayheehoo
I had one of these that was converted to a mission xx sadly. I ended up selling the cabinet to a guy who converted it back to a solar fox
U guys act like your BROTHER. Yes we are brother's your like 2 kids at the arcade.❤️❤️
Loved this one. Not familiar with it. Odd no title screen - free play related perhaps. Looks like good game to check out.
The sounds make me think of Xenon.
Got Yar's Revenge vibe.
It’s like half Pac-Man and half asteroids lol
First!!!! Ahhh son of a Midway😖
Great video guys. If you find something you love, you will never work a day in your life. Great job in tag teaming those color switches. Two people were needed. Looks like a cool game. Thanks for filming Joey and Ronnie. See you on the next video.
Monitor needs adjusting. You should see a white grid that the ship can follow.
Hey Guys!!
Love the cab. Wish Gottlieb would've sold Juno First to Bally for that cab. Solar Fox is not a great game.
that side art looks beautiful.
I loved this game use to play it a lot. I think the audio bad on this one. I swear you use to get a sound ask you picked up the things on the screen. I also have this on the atari 2600. I have not seen the arcade one in years I spent a lot of money on it. Aslo if not on free play 1 quarty you get 3 lifes but if you use 2 quarters you get 7 lives.
atari 2600 advert love it still have the cart

I just watched 2 other UA-cam videos on Solar Fox, and there is a sound when you pick up the things.
I recognize the high score entry method. I have seen that on old games from the time when King and Ballon came out maybe 1980 or 81
There's a cartridge of this game by CBS Electronics for the Atari 2600.
Thank you for making us discover this cool game. I tried it on mame and there is a sound when you pick up the objects. Hit the fast Joe!
I haven't seen this before
Almost resembles Exidy's Targ.
That G07 connection is hard to reach! I have done the exact same thing. :)
Boys, I'm fairly Sure I older than either of ya and I've never played Solar fox
Never heard of that game, but looks like a fun title.
What’s wrong with it? It’s broke…
Do you plan on making a video for that Hang-On machine sometime soon?
Yes, within the next couple weeks
I must be one of only a few viewers who actually saw more than one of these in arcades. I even played it on the Atari 2600. I love the high resolution Midway games of the period.
They didn't get "Starfox" from Solar Fox, they got it from the Marvel Comics character named Starfox who was the brother of Thanos and joined the Avengers. If the preceding sentence sounds stupid, that's because it is. It's like saying "Firefox" the browser was named after Clint Eastwood's "Firefox" the movie (and laserdisc video game).
Used to play this in a theater. I wasn't good but it was fun.
