Not only the south of the US was part of the Spanish imperium. The 80% of the US territory was on some point part of it, so is common to se Spanish names on everything not only in citys and flags with symbols of the Spanish imperium nonadays everywhere. Thomas Jefferson -> "The old history of the US is writed in Spanish". Hi from Spain btw.

Right. The Spain's presence in the US history (Bernardo de Gálvez) and in the geography of North America. I have had the honor of having met a few North Americans in my (already) long life and none of them were at those moments aware of such decisive details about their country's past.
The historical Spanish Louisiana domain. All along the westside Mississippi's river northamerican continental side.
From the Mississippi River Delta to Alaska (Valdés, Cardova -sic-, the fort of San Miguel as a bastion against the Russians in Nutka Bay).
After the death of Carlos III, the final evacuation of the Nutka territory was diplomatically signed, retreating the New Spain Viceroyalty borders to Oregon ("by the "orejón" indians -spanish for 'huge ears', subjective naming of Spanish sailors that pervived in history-, that populated the territory), thus freely releasing Russia, England and the USA from their fur trade in 1796.
By the way, as a historical north american fact. Russia intended to displace Spain from California and the entire spanish west coast to Vancouver.
As Commissioner Rezanov proposed to the Tsar: "the whole country can become an integral part of the Russian empire."
Spain stopped Russia, which if then had it occupied the fertile California, it would not have abandoned it, nor sold it as it did with the frozen Alaska. And for that reason, the United States maybe might thank Spain for having sovereignty over California today.

Hi! What a pity that they didn't show the inside of some Toledo’s monuments in the video because they impress even more. For example, the Cathedral is one of the most beautiful and spectacular in all of Spain, if not the most (without disparaging the others).
The square in Seville that you said you had seen before is Plaza de España and scenes from Star Wars were filmed there. Many films and series are filmed in Spain (such as Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon) because it has impressive locations of all kinds.
By the way, the video has some pronunciation and information errors, such as the fact that the kings of Spain don’t reside in the Royal Palace, but in the Zarzuela Palace.

"za, ce, ci, zo, zu" is pronounced with the same sound as your "th". In Spanish spoken in all Spain, the "ce" in Barcelona is pronounced with the "th" sound. And it is NOT a lisp (this would be offensive for Spaniards). If it's a lisp, then your way to pronounce "thanks", "with", "thunder" or "think" is a lisp too. In Spain, saying "za, ce, ci, zo, zu" with the "s" sound is called "seseo" and it's common in a few regions of Spain only, and in all Hispanic America. For Spaniards, saying "Barcelona" like "Barselona" is not a correct pronunciation. Also, Spaniards do not pronounce the "s" like "sh". If you ever hear a Spaniard pronounce the "s" as a "sh", it's because they are intentionally using a suburban tone or accent (like a "thug" tone). But it's not the norm :)

Madeira is Portuguese, rather than Spanish. When talking about the cathedral in Seville, they were showing the Plaza de España: as in Cordoba, the cathedral is built on a previous mosque. I think that the ‘c’ in Barcelona is only pronounced with a lisp by Manuel in Fawlty Towers. ‘S’ in Spanish is pronounced much the same as in English - the attempt made to say ‘mas o menos’ sounded more Portuguese. We go to Spain a couple of times a year and I think our favourite city is Jerez, which is not too large and is not overrun with tourists - they don’t speak English in many restaurants - and it’s easy to get to Cadiz.

My ex and inlaws are Spanish ..most Spanish, especially Andalusians / southern Spaniards pronounce the "lisp" both on "c" (before the letters i or e - but not a or o) and also " z". So cerbeza sounds like "thah-betha" but caballo is "cah-bah-yo". Yet they don't use "th" when spelling words. I named my son Nathan and the Spanish called him Nah- tahn. I would say, imagjne it is spelled "Nazan" and then they would say. "Ohh- Nathan!" 😅

@@nolaj114 Call it a lisp and insult all Spaniards. The rule is Z in pronounced like th. C followed by i or e is pronounced th. J is pronounced like h, and H is silent. a word with double L (ll) is pronounced like y, so calle, the word for street, sounds like KAH-ye. Finally, V is almost always pronounced like b. These are the rules for Castillian Spanish, known more commonly as simply Spanish and the official language of the entire country, but there are many Spanish languages, and they are also official, but spoken more regionally, like Euskara in the Basque country, Gallego in the northwest around Galicia, Catalan along the eastern coast from Barcelona to Murcia and the Ballearic islands, and Aranese Occitan in the Aran valley of Catalonia. Once you arrive in the Andalucia (an-dah- loo-SEE-ah) area and going toward northern Africa around Ceuta, Melilla, and the Canary Islands, the accent changes, and you can also encounter Silbo Gomero, the whisling language of La Gomera in the Canary islands. We watched one recently, ‘Hierro’ set in the Canary Islands and are currently watching a Chilean one. 2:00 That narrow strip with sea on both sides looks like is La Manga del Mar Menor in Murcia, not Ibiza or Majorca.
5:00 Not only Toledo, there are many cities in Southern United States, Mexico, and all over the Americas that are named after Spanish cities and towns. Here in Spain we have an Alburquerque, a Laredo, or a Guadalupe, for example.
14:50 Yes, we have lots of Roman ruins. One of the most famous is the Aqueduct of Segovia, constructed around 1st century A.D. But there are many other aqueducts, amphiteatres, and other Roman buildings in various conservation states all over the country.
15:58 It depends of the part of the country, in Catalan is pronounced with an /s/ , while in Spanish is generally pronounced as a /θ/ in the dialect of Castille and most of northern Spain, and /s/ in the Andalusian and Canary Islands dialects, as they don't use the /θ/ sound, just the same as in American Spanish dialects.
18:00 Canada and Australia may have larger territories, but both of them have smaller populations than Spain. So which is a "small country" depends on the metric you use.
20:00 If you say "como shtash" (or "mash o menosh" as you said earlier) people may think you have an speech impediment😂.The souns "sh" does not exists in Spanish.
22:20 A bit earlier in this same video they talked about la Playa de la Concha (by the way the "ch" is pronounced like in "chance" not like a "k" as they pronounced it) in San Sebastián, so yes, though the Mediterranean ones are more popular, there are also nice beaches on the Atlantic side.

(Donostia is 12 miles from the border with France.)
Andorra is a small principality in the interior of the peninsula in the Pyrenees mountain range, in fact closer to Catalonia than to the Basque Country.

I admit that I am impressed. You have a very high level of geography and history.
You have made a very sharp observation that escapes most.
Indeed, Spain is approximately at the latitude of the state of New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts...
However, most of the country (except the northern fringe) is more arid than the northeast of the United States.
Not only that, Spain in general is less humid than Italy, with both countries being at the same latitude.
I was always interested in knowing why. I think it has a complex multifactorial explanation.
But it seems that the main elements are 2:
1- The Azores anticyclone. A meteorological phenomenon in the Atlantic Ocean west of the Iberian Peninsula.
2- The physical geography of the country itself.
Much of the center of the country is formed by the central plateau (650 m or 1950 feet above sea level).
Surrounding the central plateau are many mountain ranges.
In fact, Spain is a very mountainous country.
These mountain ranges have a "screen effect" on the different air masses that reach the Iberian Peninsula with humid air.
This "screen effect" does not completely neutralize the different air masses that reach the Iberian Peninsula, but it attenuates it.
The peculiar geographical location of the Iberian Peninsula and its orography make it almost a mini continent.
With a multitude of landscapes and climatic differences.
Thus in the north there is a climate very similar to that of England or France, and the southeast is literally a desert. Very close to that desert there is a mountain range in Andalusia, which changes the landscapes and climate completely.
Something curious considering that Spain (and even more so Portugal) is a small country compared to gigantic countries like the US.
You talked about the influence of warm air masses from Africa.
In fact, it is one of the air masses that reach the Iberian Peninsula.
The most characteristic thing about this air mass is that it comes from the Sahara, sometimes loaded with sand and dust.
When this phenomenon occurs, something quite spectacular occurs.
The day darkens, the sky turns red and there is a rather apocalyptic atmosphere.
It's not common but sometimes it happens.
I think that in some places in the US a very similar phenomenon sometimes occurs.
    A cordial greeting.

Yep Andorra is in the Pyrenees, literally in between France and Spain, is "in driving" distance yes, though it takes aprox 5 hours driving through the mountain range. Great place for skiing and snowboarding, used to go there almost every year when I was a teen
Btw don't be fooled by the stereotypes, Spain is the most montanous region of Europe after Swizzerland and has tons of biomes, you have coasts, cliffs and forests with almost constant rain and fog like Ireland/Scottland in the north of Spain. You have vast plains that reach the horizon in the center, Arizona like terrain in the south, etc. It's always mentioned Spain is always sun and beaches but that's mostly the mediterranean coast
As for the history, yeah we have Roman, Carthaginian, Celt, Moor, Phoenician, Gothic and Germanic ruins everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE you could throw a stone and find some old arch, public bathroom with geothermal waters, etc And not just ruins we have still in use bridges, theatres, aqueducts and lighthouse from Roman era, let that sink in, we have structures still in use and perfectly preserved and maintained (and up to modern standard without compromising the structure) from 2000 years ago, and not just a 5 meter long bridge but 100+ meters long ones. The aqueducts of Segovia is 17 km long and was still in use up to 1970
Now liguistically speaking: With differenciate C from S, you call it lisp but we have been diferenciating them since Roman times, our CE sounds like your THEspian. Our SI (yes) doesn't sound at all like CI. You call lisp to diferenciating S from C we call lisp not differenciating S from C, which is kinda funny

The "c" in Barcelona can be both pronounced as a /th/ or an /s/, depending on the dialect/accent/language variety. The typical Spanish /s/ in Spain (only in varieties that have both the /th/ and the /s/phonemes) is apical, meaning that it's pronounced using the tip of the tongue touching the alveolar ridge. In English and Latin American Spanish the /s/ is laminal, pronounced with the part of the tongue behind the tip touching the alveolar ridge, while the tip of the tongue rests against the lower teeth. It's thought that Latin had an apical /s/, like Peninsular Spanish.

Andorra is in the Pyrenees, but not on the Basque / Atlantic side near San Sebastian, rather on the Catalan side, about a two-three hour drive from Barcelona or the Mediterranean

You definitely should come back and travel through Italy and Spain.
Italy is more beautiful than you could ever imagine it doesn’t matter where you are it’s just beauty on beauty on beauty. And the food is to die for 😍😍😍😍 Italy is my favourite country but after the migration it’s not as safe as it used to be sadly. But you just can’t beat that kind of beauty.
Spain it were different still beautiful no doubt but more deserted in large part of Spain. I moved from Denmark to Spain 9 month ago and I love that desert look maybe because I myself live in a very wet and green country so for me to see something very different is beautiful. There’s so much to see here in Spain and the people are so kind even though you do not speak Spanish and they do not speak English they try very hard to give you the best experience. The weather in August is freaking warm like it’s not pleito be outside walking around during the hottest time of the day. But I love that it’s like 28-30 degrees at night so you can be out eating till midnight and it’s not too warm. I live between Alicante and Valencia and it’s fantastic I love it and both Alicante and Valencia are fantastic cities ❤ the northern part of Spain is definitely more green and much colder but as beautiful as the south. The food is great but in my humble opinion it’s can’t beat the Italian food. You are going to be blown away with the architecture everywhere but remember if you come at the high peak of summer it’s going to be packed with people especially in the city’s. So around May, June, mid September and October would be perfect to visit. And no you’re not boring just because nightlife is not your priority.

That ancient structure you saw in Madrid that you asked about is the Templo de Debod, a gift from Egypt. The beaches in the south of Spain can be beautiful (Cádiz, Huelva... other parts of the coast are meh). It's a loooong coastline. 😉
Great channel. Love your vibe. ❤️👍

@ 2:01 is La Manga. It's a stunning strip of land between the Mediterranean and Mar Menor. You pass the city of Cartagena just before the entrance to La Manga, that originates from the Romans and Carthage. We went there last year and are going again next month. Madeira is owned by Portugal, maybe you were thinking of Majorca/Mallorca (the j or ll is a y), which is Spanish.
About the "como estas?", the 's' is just a regular 's' in most of Spain, the way you pronounced it sounds more Portugese. However, the region where I live (Almeria, in the bottom right corner), the locals don't pronounce their 's', so they would say "como eta?", but if it's just locals being friendly, they would just say "que tal?". it's quite difficult to learn Spanish here.
And about Granada. It's only 2 hours from me, I've never been yet although my son has. And not only does it have the ancient history of the Romans, the Moors, the Berbers and the Alhambra (which is featured in many films).....but it also has the superb ski resort of the Sierra Nevada mountains..........You can be skiing in the morning and sunbathing in 30 degrees in the afternoon.

Second oldest city in the the US is Spanish founded - Santa Fe.
Muslims during the moorish time, were far architecturally to Northern Europe, also scientifically curious, not sure when that faded.
Spain also has fantastic regional foods and wines. Lived in Andalusia for a year - amazing.

Barzelona in Spanish Barselona in Catalan. 😅😂 the como estas first. The second one is as someone with pronunciation problems would say it. We only say different the c and z not all the s.

If you have the chance, the theme park of Toledo called "puy du fou" is just stunning, and it resume the history of spain really well.
in the other hand, "Las Fallas" from Valencia is not only a normal party. Is an artistic competition which cost millions of Euros (sometime more than 12) each one.
Is probably the best festivity of Spain, and maybe even close to the Chinese end year or Brazilian charnivals. We put a LOT of effort of making the fallas, and is really an beautiful and uncomparable artisian work.
I cannot look it only "like a party" (No hate at all don't worry :)). I can't explain it much better, you need search for it and if you can live it maybe you can undestand what I say :).
