Great work and thank you for the video! I’m learning to woodwork and this is a healthful guide!

Thank you for this video. It gives a great example. All the other you tube videos are always done with super expensive equipment and perfectly perfection. Instead of showing how to do it by hand while being rusty or a beginner

I've watched many videos about box joints by hand and yours was one on the best! Thank you!

After watching a bunch of videos and finishing my first box, I'm choosing your video as the reference for how to make box joints next time, and putting it in my instructions folder 📁 :D great job! You beat Paul Sellers in clarity and completeness, just so you know. The stop motion is just gravy 🤠

I have the same dilema with a cheap miter gauge...but I don't have a set of good sharp chisels or a coping saw....so off to make a sled.
Running out of test wood and my boxes are getting smaller...ugh...oh well,.practice, practice, practice.
Thx for the inspiration, great work.

Great project. It's easy to see one's own flaws and be overly critical. I'm that way myself. Unless they're glaring, most people won't notice them.
    This came out really nice.
I haven't done this since many years ago. Two relevant pieces of advice I've seen from people doing this by hand: 1. Make the cuts on the waste side.
    2. Don't place the chisel exactly on the cut-off line of your stock, because the chisel will push the fibers inward, and gaps will form.

I'm trying to make abox for a friend and wanted more flair than just miters, but have been struggling cutting this joint. This video is extremely helpful and convincing to me to just be patient and do it step by step. Also you clearly had fun with the stop motion part and I love it :D

Informative and entertaining. Just subscribed after discovering the 15" Planer segment cutterhead vid.

Beautiful work, dude! Really well done! 😃
I don't know why, but I think dovetail is easier to do by hand than something like this!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Nice work, giving me a bit of inspiration for a project ... What brand of holdfasts are those?

They are Veritas (from Lee Valley), but from what I understand this particular style were discontinued. I may be wrong about that though.

Just a quick question: why did you sand then add the putty? would it make more sense to add the putty first then sand it off flush?

    • @catspawcustoms
      @catspawcustoms  3 місяці тому

@@DC-cy6uj I typically do a first sand, then putty, then the higher grit sanding. You end up using less putty and you still need to sand to the higher grits anyway.
