So lovely to see Chris! Also The festival of lights were stunning - much more so in reality, I imagine. And the dolls house that inspired The Miniaturist. Thanks so much for sharing some of the sights with us, Simon and Chris - Amsterdam is a fabulous city! ❤
It’s been absolutely ages since I’ve been to Amsterdam, and this vlog made me want to go back right away. What a treat to see the two of you together on a mini-break and you definitely did quite a lot in a short time. And those book shops looked amazing!!
We seemed to get the pace just right. As there was a lot but in a moochy way, with breaks for coffees (and food) and then time to chill at the hotel. Dare I say I got the balance right for something for once. Hahaha.
ps. i don't think anyone else wrote a comment yet, and since you [sort of] asked: sa-ka-dja-wee-a, although i think there are actually several pronunciations. but in all cases, one more syllable
This was absolutely lovely! It was so calming and soothing to watch at the end of my evening before heading to bed! Loved the piano music you selected to accompany the first museum visit. And oh that food looked amazing! Really enjoyed this ❤
We really enjoyed our time in Amsterdam too. .liked both museums. .but LOVED the Van Gogh (learned so much, had no idea about his Asian artwork, planned to spend a few hours and spent five hours there). .we were also lucky to get into The Anne Frank House as well at the very last minute. .would definitely go back! Thanks for sharing and yes please to more of these types of vlogs!
Aaaahhh, what a beautiful beautiful video!😃 I've lived in the Netherlands for quite a few years and now I'm full of nostalgic feelings and a generous amount of homesickness. (Also, "Bitterballen" seem to have undergone quite an evolution since my time and days...😆). Never made it to the Rijksmusueum, by the way.😮
Love, love, loved your Amsterdam trip. Been many times but have never seen the light show. Thanks so much -so have added it to my trip list for Christmas next year. Went to Van Gogh museum in 1995 so need to go ago.
The Light Festival is fab. Though, and I may be a bit biased as it run by Pip, I do think our Liverpool’s River of Light is next level… but you don’t get to do it by boat which was a lot of fun. Haha.
thanks simon...that's as close as i'll ever get to seeing amsterdam and i loved it...and i have a favor to ask...at 5:37 you pause before a painting of two gentlemen in a book and/or print show..done in tans and yellows...do you happen to know the name of the painting or the artist? if not perhaps i'll find it by serendipity and i can always come back and visit it here...thanks again.
This video was just wonderful to watch Simon! Loved everything about it and now makes me want to visit Amsterdam. 😁 Enjoyed the heartwarming vibes Chris seeing VG’s art exhibition, and the highlighted places you both got to see and eat at. Seeing the canal that represents THOF was a real treat, the huge American book store, and seeing you both reading together while on holiday. Yes please to more of the same in your future videos. 😊
I love this vlog! Thank you for sharing! Never been to Amsterdam looks like a great city to visit! Also I love the mug that you showed with the reading critters!! So cute!! Wish I can go to Amsterdam right now and buy it for me and my two littles who also love to read! Please do more travel vlogs if possible and tour of bookshops!! I love watching them. Happy Holidays!!
I was soooooooo close to buying that mug for myself. Sooooooooooooo close. I’ll be capturing ALL next year in vlogs and that’ll include some big and some little trips so hopefully lots to enjoy ahead!
Thanks for sharing your Amsterdam trip, I haven’t been and it looks fab, definitely a place to visit. Great to see that you and Chris both read, my husband will only read when we’re on holiday 😅! We’re away for Christmas and I’ve wrapped ‘Orbital’ up for him.
I read waaaaay less when I’m away and Chris reads like a beast. Cher’s memoir was done and dusted by him, whilst I didn’t finish The House of Fortune until I got back.
Oh, I am so enjoying your mooch around the rijksmuseum thank you 🙏 Amsterdam is such a beautiful city and your video certainly renders that. Thank you 🎉
OH I’m so jealous of everythingggggggggggg the art the food the culture the water the partner with a patience to spend 5 hours doing anything 😂 Thanks for showing the dollhouse, I didn’t know that was the inspiration! Loved seeing that 😊
Nice to hear that you had bitterballen. The original bitterballen are with beef. I don’t know it you ever had a kroket (croquette). That’s with the same beef filling as a bitterbal. Also very tasty.
What a lovely vlog! Thanks for bringing us along. Would love to see what you get up to in Lisbon as I’m heading there next October - you always find interesting places to see and, most importantly, to eat! 😁
Love Amsterdam too. It is one of the best Dutch cities to visit. That pea soup (erwtensoep) is my favorite Dutch savory dish. Pro tip for those who can't make it into the fancy restaurant: try and find a store called HEMA that has a restaurant. (there are smaller ones that don't have a restaurant, but it's just the shop) HEMA is a sort of discount/Dutch version of IKEA, but they have the best version of this soup. For an affordable price. May be personal preference, but I have had many versions of this soup, including from restaurants, shops, and even made by actual Dutch people (at home), and the HEMA version is my favorite by far. Not sponsored. I just really love how they make that soup. 😀

Wonderful vlog! It looks like you had a lovely time.
Thank you for taking us with you, Simon; that was really kind of you. And 'thank you' to Chris, as well, for letting us tag along. 🎄 Carol
A pleasure!

So pleased you enjoyed it and came along!
Very enjoyable and relaxing. I liked the mixture of street scenes, stores, museums and restaurants. I’m looking forward to more!
Just have to book in some more trips 😉
This was lovely. Nice to see home through someone else's eyes
Delightful, thank you.
I loved your trip, thanks for sharing.

Wow the museums looked incredible. and the boat night time light show! And the food. What a trip!
Was a brilliant three days a way. Whizzed by a teeny bit too quickly!
Loved the museums and the reflections on the water tour!!!
Happy Christmas!
And to you and yours!
You visited my home country. Happy to see you had a good time.

Amsterdam is a beauty. (Want to go back one day). I’m so glad you two had a fab time there, and in the willy too ofc. Thank you for bringing us along!
I already want to go back. There was talk of going for Mum’s 60th, which is next year believe it or not.
@@SavidgeReads You and Chris and your Mum in Amsterdam? There's a full-length movie in that one!😁

Thankfully I have the content still and could pause and zoom in, it’s The Shop of the Book Dealer by Johannes Jeigerhuis.
@@SavidgeReads thanks so much for taking the time to do this for me simon..i love this painting which i've never seen before..

So pleased you enjoyed it. It’s quite hard to do the city justice even though it’s sooooo beautiful.
22:49 was that a vlaflip?
edit: oh it was! can't believe they serve that in restaurants now I love it, so nostalgic for me

I was the one who had the patience. When I went on my own the first time I went to Amsterdam… I was in there for an hour and a half tops. Lol.
