    Hi. I live in the mountains of Puerto Rico. Similar climate to Puna. I have a on demand camping shower heated by a propane tank. Same as a bbq tank. It works perfect it’s possible to have very hot water and power is not necessary as long as you can get a minimum of 20# of pressure. If not you can use that 12v pump to get the minimum amount of pressure need to operate the heater. Enjoy watching people doing similar things as I. Take care

    I really like your videos and your shower design. I have a request, but do not mean any disrespect by it whatsoever...you are both very good looking, especially together. You both look healthy, fit, relaxed, laid back and a role model for healthy living. I think you should both do a full shower demonstration ( the uncensored, "director's cut" version). I think it would be life-affirming, really beautiful and really nice. Maybe not possible on youtube; although youtube criteria do seem to be all over the place. perhaps vimeo, daily motion or one of those? just an idea. keep up the great work

      Hot water is basically the greatest thing to ever exist.
      We timed it today and the hot water lasts 4 minutes, then gets increasingly colder. I guess it forces us to be efficient with time and also offers a cool splash at the end to close the pores. :)

    Dam, that is a badazz shower setup!!! I hope the water doesn't get too hot during the summer, but I guess you could just let it run for a few minutes to cool it down. I had a pump with no filter and it ran for years, so yours will never get clogged up. If you need more hot water, cut the pipe and put in tub with a plastic top to let the sun in, but i guess it'd have to be completely sealed to keep the pressure. Good for you guys!!!!!!!!

      @OffGridHawaii  6 років тому

      That's true :) it doesn't get too sunny here though and the barrel is already kind of in the shade so idk how much it would really help us. We're probably gonna get another barrel though and either paint it or just bury it under the compost heap. 🤔 🤙

    careful guys the boys stole the show and now the numbers will probably triple just wonderful to have the kids around to teach learn and be self-sustaining little individuals I'll bet they loved being around for the build process and it's what may be lacking in today's society of joysticks and video games this is great true life upbringing the joys of being a kid in a family environment just can't be beat, what a great step above the last shower and it will only get better for the next one as time goes on, I think it would be interesting and neat if Uncle Michael and aunt Paulina did a project together with the boys and built them an off-grid Fort or teepee with a few Ojai post which can be sourced buy the boys around the property I'm just throwing it out there you guys take care. OffGridHawaii Hey guys! Hope all is well. I'm considering on coming back to the Big Island. I really miss the small town and slower pace lifestyle in Hilo/Puna. My only fear is not being able to find a job as I heard it's scarce because of the population on Big Island. I am also not considering Kona. I do have experience in the medical field but I do not have a bachelor's degree. O'ahu has a lot to offer but it's kind of too busy for my liking although I still really enjoy it here. If you guys don't mind, what do you guys do for work? Do you guys have an online business? Multiple streams of income? If that's too personal to ask then I understand, lol. Thanks, guys! 🤙

    • @OffGridHawaii
      @OffGridHawaii  6 років тому +1

      Hey John, I don’t know how the job market is at the moment, or how the volcanic eruption is affecting the market. However, I do know that a lot of places are constantly hiring people (usually minimum wage jobs/retail) because of the high turnover rate since a lot of people don’t live here permanently. Paulina has two part time jobs working at the zipline and a health food store. Michael works odd jobs here and there taking care of people’s properties, landscaping etc. some minor income from the UA-cam but that hardly counts.
      I’d say your best bet would be work In the hospitality/ tourist or retail industry if you don’t have any specialized degree in anything else.
      Also, Puna probably isn’t the best place to live at the moment because of the lava. That’s where a lot of work trading was possible at the farms.

    Awesom idea with the compost heater. I had a flash thought of brewing some purple potatoey shine but I have come to realize I am powerless over thoughts. I have heard that a good compost heap should be no more than about 150 f if you want the beneficial IMO alive. Although you probably know that but I am just saying. Thank you for sharing. I went to the Pahoa transfer station while in a couple months ago for the first time and happy to hear that it offers free mulch. I guess bigger compost heap equal longer hot showers and more great food as well as some possible purple potatoey shine....duty free....oh my mind...

      @@OffGridHawaii Hey guys 👋👋👋 have you considered IBC water tanks? They're great value for money. Like new, single trip food grade IBC's go for about $120 in NZ, which like Hawaii, is expensive, but these tanks are a bargain, considering they hold 1000L about 264 gallons.

    Was just wondering if you had trouble keeping your compost hot all the time due to the constant rain?

    • @OffGridHawaii
      @OffGridHawaii  5 років тому

      The rain doesn't seem to negatively affect it. the key to keeping it hot is turning in it and adding grass clippings at least every 2 weeks.

  • @Atgul-z6o
    @Atgul-z6o 6 років тому

    Cool stuff! Could you put the whole barrel in the compost pile?

    • @OffGridHawaii
      @OffGridHawaii  6 років тому

      Yeah that would also work, it'd just be different. We could have done that before we realized the gravity feed wouldn't give us enough pressure.

    • @OffGridHawaii
      @OffGridHawaii  6 років тому

      The idea with the coils is that the water would get warm as it passes through, I think for that to work we would need a longer coil to give it more time in the pile. Once we get our first pile hot though we should get twice as much time.

    Your choice of lifestyle is awesome guys - so are those two cute little rascals.
    I just wanted to say something that I hope you don't mind. You two obviously care for each other and wish to be together.
    Make sure you follow Jesus Christ cause He is the only way to Heaven, where people will live forever with their loved ones
    who also make it to Heaven. The other 'destination' hell is for those who deny Jesus Christ and they will truly die - existing forever in darkness and total solitude in an evil place of pains and eternal regrets. Simply being a good person in this world is not enough, we must repent of all our sins and accept the free gift that Jesus died for us to take our sins on His shoulders.
    Sorry if I speak boldly but it's the truth and I can't beat around the bush about it - time is short that's why I'm warning people.
    Please read God's Bible (KJV) and see what things are soon to happen. Jesus told us all about it in the Bible's REVELATION.
    In love and caring I send this message to you and hope it is taken with the love that I send it. God bless you both.

      Thank you for the lovely message. We haven't considered ourselves religious type, but are definitely open to receiving guidance from those on a Divine path. Thank you for sharing tour truth.

      Hi Paulina, I came to learn about your shower technique but something was saying to me to tell you about Jesus. You're right it's no coincidence, God truly steers our paths for us. Did you know that people who are destined for Heaven have already had their names written in the 'Book of Life' before they were born?
      Get yourselves a KJV Bible (many other version bibles are corrupted). Also biblegateway.com is a great site with AUDIO as well (even just listening to the words while you;re working is a blessing). But make sure to get a hard copy Bible because one day we will not be able to buy one .... or even own one.
      There are many traps that you need to be aware of .... MANY.
      Not all Christian y/t channels are of God as also many preachers out there especially the famous ones. They're NOT of God but the fallen one and their purpose is to trick and snatch souls for satan.
      Steer clear of the New Age religion which is deceiving many young and old alike into believing in the 'higher consciousness' and of being their own gods etc. Before man, lucifer was one of the 4 mighty angels in Heaven who was full of pride and wanted to be higher than God, so he got a third of the angels to rebel.
      So God threw him and his friends out of Heaven - hence the war in Heaven. Well these fallen angels are what is behind the illuminati today and that's why we see all the putrid evil around the world today.
      God is preparing his army of warriors for the battle - that's why we have got to armor up and get our souls ready for what's to come. I'm going to post a fantastic prayer that is to be read daily which gives you God's protection against the evil ones that we can't see with our physical eyes. And don't ever forget that the instance we call on the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the minions get scared and run away. I once heard that the instance you open the pages of the Bible then whatever evil thing is around the vicinity runs away in fear. Go figure! I'm always comforted by the words Jesus said to us "Fear Not For I Am With You".
      I don't go to church - not until I find one that I know for sure is of God. I don't follow religion, only Jesus.
      Always know this, you have a DIRECT communication line with Jesus Christ - use it.
      Ask for repentance of anything you did, accept Him as the Son of God and thank Him for His sacrifice.
      He's listening to us and watching over us all the time - He's testing our faith.
      There's so much more to say but I better stop, I can go on and on, hehe.
      Please let me know if you want to know more - I'll try to tell you what I know (still learning things myself).
      God bless you both and may Jesus Christ make Himself known to you - thanks for listening to me guys.

      Thanks Lynn - God bless you too my friend. Good to hear you'll be going off grid too.
      Going off grid is one of the most intelligent things anybody can do for themselves, their families and pets.
      I'm looking to sell my home and then buy an acreage far away from the city .... off grid, here I come !!
