Hey kids, its Uncle Ben Eller, back again with Weekend Wankshop 296!!!
What happens when the legendary Dann Huff, who shredded his way through rock history with Giant, Whitesnake, and MORE goes country? Amazing guitar solos, like this awesome example from Summer's Comin' by Clint Black!!! The double stops, chicken pickin, and alternate picking madness in this solo are so amazing, i can't wait to show you how to play it!!
I'm using my Suhr Modern T custom, Andy Wood Woodshed Compressor, and Axe FX 3 in this video.
What country shredder do you want to learn from next? Brad Paisley? Brent Mason? Let me know in the comments!!!
What’s your favorite country shred solo?!?! Let me know in the comments and we will break it down on a future Weekend Wankshop!
Most anything by Jimmy Bryant
Pick it Apart - Brent Mason
There’s also a song called “new way to light up an old flame” that has a cool solo, not sure who’s picking that one.
@@CC-qb9sm (Brent Mason)
@@contrapunktapus Ha! No wonder I love it! Thanks much! It’s definitely a different groove than pick it apart! Quite tasty though!
@@CC-qb9sm Levi Clay made a whole spotify playlist that's all Brent Mason tracks, it's pretty rad!
Love Dann Huff. Those Giant albums are killer. Such a versatile guitarist, singer and producer. Reason i saved up and got my Tyler. 🎸
Dann Huff is one of the most prolific, unknown shredder if all time!
Dan Huff was a child Prodigy!I will always be blown away by his work on Whiteheart(self titled).1982-19yrs old,Huff came out tha gate blazing!!Great singing too.WAAAY beyond his years.WH Vital Signs was great too.Two overlooked albums.
I only recently discovered this channel, and I’m fresh off the heels of the solo lesson vid for Tornado of Souls (which was fantastic btw).
... I never thought in my life I’d be interested in a country solo...
But I guess that’s the magic of Uncle Ben!
Welcome
Country Fried Shreddin’ .. Tasty 👍
Man, I love the fretboard on that Suhr!
thank you! i love everything about it!
tbh thats the one thing that felt a bit off to me lol, shows how we all have such different taste (:
@@BenEller I agree, that guitar is absolutely sic. I freaking love green to start with, but that fingerboard and headstock just really complete the picture!
Damn it, Ben. I just spent two hours with your original vid from 6 years ago at 75% speed. NOW I find this.
Thank you for sharing this tasty country goodness with us, Uncle Ben. Never stop.
Love when you do country solo lessons Uncle Ben, thank you much.
Hi Ben. Great lesson as always! I was asked to "replace" a solo and play some fills on a record for a band that was signed to Quincy Jones' label "East West" in the very late '80s - they were doing some overdubbing here in Dublin, Ireland. I heard the parts and asked them why they wanted them replaced, and they said they wanted something "more melodic" and with a bit more "feel". I told them to keep the original parts and put me on a separate track, as I thought the parts were great - Dan Huff played them!
I can't bend strings like that without my head-face making funny expressions.
Great song, cool solo. I guess I gotta break down and learn this one. Thanks for another great lesson #UncleBen! #thumbsup
Wow !! I had no idea Uncle Ben could play country stuff too . You never cease to amaze myfriend !!
I love this! Feel free to throw rockabilly and country lessons in the mix anytime! (says the guy patiently waiting for his Brent Mason fender telecaster to arrive!)
Really nice playing and tone. And as always a great lesson. 👌
Thanx Man, I can pick this up from you alot easier than anything else for me, You have shown me a ton more than alot of the other chumps.I find I save more of your videos in my practice file than anyone, It`s a big damn file, lol. Thanx again brother I reallyappreciate all your work.
Killer solo. Nicely explained. Thanks Uncle Ben!
Purely awesome lesson Ben!
Way too cool solo Ben ! Tasty ! Thank you.
WELCOME TO UNCLE BEN'S SOLO COUNTRY WESTERN BAR N GRILL. YEEEHAAA! 🍺🐮🐴🐃
COUNTRY STRONG BEN! 👊💪
COUNTRY STRONG!
Nailed It! Great Lesson!
At the 3:40 mark in the song, “When She Wakes Up (And Finds Me Gone) by Tim McGraw, Dan Huff lays down a scorching ending solo for 1:34. The song kind of ends and dead air for a few seconds before the drums hit and Dan takes off. Uncle Ben should do a cover of it. It’s been stumping guys for years. Namely me. Haha
The tone on that solo is INCREDIBLE -- gives me Van Halen Balance vibes!!
Have to add a like and a comment if for not other reason than you saying “Dann Huff is probably the most underrated guitarist of all time.” I love Giant, and you should definitely check out Huff’s own tutorial on UA-cam where he talks about taking a song and making it sound rock, country, or blues by changing what he calls “the jangly bits.”
So so good! Well done you
The fact that you can shred and play country..well I salute you Sir!
Not technically country, but I've learned a lot over the years by dissecting The Outlaws "Green Grass and High Tides" as well as "There Goes Another Love Song", particularly Hughie Thomasson's lines, that clean Strat sound (with on the edge breakup for leads) was just perfect to my ears!
Thanks Uncle Ben!
I've watched this 10+ times now and have almost achieved step-dad speed. It's a lot of fun.
The first Giant album is incredible. It’s a sin that more people don’t know it. And Dan was the singer in that band too. Amazing musician.
Huff's Florentine omelet is pretty good, but his Tuscan frittata is divine
This is freaking awesome. I think I've found another hero
Thanks buddy!!
Fantastic breakdown Ben…
Love Dann Huff !
he's so good!
Nice pickin', Uncle B. Going to send you a pair overalls for the next one.
'Redecker', great term, man, adding that to my daily lexicon.
*That last double stop lick is tasty as some southern bbq* 😋
Thanks Country Ben !!
Great playing!!!
This solo soooo much reminds me of the intro riff to "Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh. Same key, same feel.
Also, I discovered that my SBMM Axis (HH) can do a credible impersonation of a Tele when I split the outer coils (position 4 on the switch).
Fav-o-rite Chick'n pick'n has to be Wade Hayes "Old Enough to Know Better". Short and sweet, dirty as hell!
I was sooooo hoping you would do "Time to burn"...anyway thanks so much for showing your followers what an absolute beast Dann Huff is!
Dan Huff is a monster guitar player. Thw Warren Hill record he did was killer smooth jazz stuff. He's a musical force
Dann plays a KILLER solo in "standing in the shadows" by whitesnake's 87 album version!!
Cracking solo, nice lesson
Yes!! Country picking😃
You make country sound appealing.
Hey uncle Ben! My father and i have been attempting to break down 12th street rag by Roy clark. As im sure you know, he was an amazing instrumentalist. If you are interested in doing a video and breaking it down for us, we would be real appreciative! Love the content!
Ben is a wise ass in the beginning. But as his lessons progress, he doesn't fuck around. Kids, Uncle Ben n is the real deal.
Nice choice!
That solo is insane!
Superb Ben. Love your stuff. I happen to think this solo is fantasm a and I have air played it a million times. I the learnt it from your old video on this solo - yeah, but I learned it wrong! This will sort out my errors, which were gross and unacceptable!
YOU OLE SLY DAWG YOU....slippery country fried deliciousness....NEED MORE WEEKLY CONTENT!!
11:08 That’s James Burton right there! ❤
Excelent Uncle Ben...
All of us non country playing rock n roll guitar players secretly want to learn this.
Giant deserved their name...Dann Huff is the man!
he's amazing!!!!
You should do some lessons on Giant, Ben!
I will never get tired of looking at that Tele
Awesome!!!
Junior Brown, Red Volkaert, and try not to crap your pants watching Roy Clark play Malaguena
Just watched that Malaguena video - wow!
Pff, take a look at Johnny Hiland.
Yes this is what I wanted
Nice chicken pickin skills ...:)
Forgot to say that your country tone is sick in my opinion.
Frick that sounded clean
Every time I listen Time to burn I feel that I am not worthy to play the guitar (this happens to me with other 500 guitarrists!)...Dann Huff what a talented guy!! so underrated
Both kinds: Country and Western
Yes, he got both :-)
Giant is releasing a new album Jan 2022. The lead single is never die young, Dann has the lead guest on it, and it's fire 🔥🔥
Hellecasters FTW. It’s literally 20 years since I was trying to check out their stuff. Really love the music but couldn’t ever work out how to apply the techniques to heavy stuff. We need harmonic minor, chromatic and diminished licks for
Country. Psycroptic had the right idea but it was mostly just hybrid picking.
Less typing, less griping 🤪
Great video Uncle. Dann Huff actually produced two Megadeth records - Cryptic Writings and Risk
yup!!!! Man, Cryptic was actually my first Megadeth record, and i maintain that there's some sick riffs on there.
Also learned he played guitar on the US radio version of Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" single. Not sure what role he played on the song, or why.
And he did the solo to Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins
did he really?!?!?!
@@BenEller yup 👌
afaik not just the solo, all guitar tracks in Danger Zone were played by Dann
Holy shit! I started playing guitar because I wanted to do Sanitarium and that cool music from Top Gun!
I could listen some Joe Walsh lick in there! Great stuff
Throttleneck by Brad Paisley has got some sweet licks
Coool!!!!!! 👌👍👏
Dann is one bad dude
Uncle Ben, I've been listening to Your Brother John by Joe Satriani cover for over a year and wanna say just Amazing yet accurate compared to the other covers here on UA-cam !
Can You do a video where You break this one down ? sorry for My English.
Stepdad speed sound like a cool funky blues
*UNCLE BEN!*
HOWDY PARTNER!
Sounding a bit like Danny Gatton. Nice vid, UB!
Even still stands up extremely well as a solo at step dad speed
Also helped Dave mustaine apparently when he recorded the vocals for 'trust' .
I think Huff produced the whole recording
@@denafitzgerald2554 Almost certainly. I only mentioned the vocal stuff cause it's alluded to in mustaine's biography. Huff and somebody else is mentioned but I can't remember the other name for the life of me!
Not a country fan, but that is a tasty solo with just the right amount of spice!
I ain't much in to country, but if it's got good guitar, I like it, regardless of genre, I would like to see do something from Brad Paisley, because he can smoke a guitar, as always, great video!
Don't hate me for lovin country!!
If I remember correctly, Dan Huff produced a Megadeth album or two. Cryptic Writings, I believe.
WOW didn't know that
@@dannymcmince Yup. Cryptic Writings and I think Risk as well.
@@JunkfoodZombieGuns Thank you Junk!
Would you be able to do an instructional video of Keith Urban's Good Thing? I have not been able to find a good video guitar lesson, and there are so many cool licks in this song.
Bro,which album to start to get a hang on chicken pickin and country style stuffs..
can you do a review of the new Gogina neural dsp plugin? :)
Can you do the Cemetery Gates solo, I don't think the tabs I saw for it are really correct.
Hi Uncle Ben! What gauge strings do you have on the beeeyootiful guitar?
is the backing track you used for this available on patreon Uncle Ben ? great lesson btw!
Man, unfortunately no; pretty sure I would get in trouble for distributing backing tracks to licensed music :(
Hey uncle Ben, it’s your uncle Ben. You should do a brad paisley video
Oh like this one? ua-cam.com/video/IVaPXNbG650/v-deo.html
I can almost play it at Cousin We Don't Talk About Speed. ( I had to take the Step Dad speed and slow it down more using Quick Time 7). aka, I suck.
Hey man you should check out the solo for Honky Tonk Night Time Man by Merle Haggard. Roy Nichols playing 🤯🤯🤯
hi uncle Ben
🔥
Doesn't the fractal have plenty of compressor options? I don't own one so I'm just asking.
Oh yeah, tons!!!
That's step-uncle-dad speed
Brad Paisley!
I wanna learn some Vince Gill! Oklahoma Borderline
Wassup dude!?
My kinda party- Jason Aldean. The solo isn’t the craziest solo, but it’s very interesting
