  • Beeline Primer Sealer as an alternative to what we'd normally use (Don't use PVA!!)
So in today's video, I demonstrate my surface preparation for lining paper or wallpaper. Departing from traditional methods like sizing with thinned wallpaper paste or Zinsser Gardz, I opt for Beeline's Primer Sealer based on recommendations. The video covers dilution instructions for this alternative primer, providing a comprehensive guide for a smooth surface finish.

Was using beeline primer sealer in the 90's. Still great stuff now.

Very good product to use prior to papering.

Phil I used to use that sander pole and head but I find they flip and scrape quite often especially with new paper can I kindly recommend the round head rota goes on any pole that screws ie purdy, axus etc and I’ve never looked back they come with 9inch Velcro backin pads there on Amazon about 52 quid and without doubt the best non electronic sander I’ve ever used

Lovely stuff that primer sealer, I use before papering over bare plaster and over silk before applying matt emulsion. I dont think it would bind old paste like gardz though.
Those poles, I dont like em, I find they skim over areas if the surface isnt dead flat.

the pole sander is grewat for nibbing over a wall though and getting a scratch across vinyl silk etc.
Yeah, the primer sealer.. I'm surprised there's not more information about in on the tinternet.

Hi Phil, great videos. I've been advised that Gardz seals the walls too much and therefore not letting the paste get/soak into the walls like its meant to do which produces its strong bond. What are your thoughts on that please ? Also i've recently been thinking about using the Beeline primer, like you say not a lot of info out there for the product no data sheet etc. With the two difference ratios to mix to whats you thoughts to walls that have a fair amount of filler on / part bare plaster and part old solid paint what mix do you think you'd do ? cheers

Gardz... who told you that? don't over think it, we often paper over wall that in the past have been painted, in the olden days most walls were painted with an oil eggshell.
a decent paste sticks to these surfaces and don't forget you line first that gives the base for your finish wall paper. A decent paste stick to these surfaces.
What surface is it you're going over?
beeline primer sealer... stick to the ration I mention in the video. No need to make it any thicker for sealing prior to papering. it does what it needs to do.

the guys at wallrock mentioned it to me a while back and somewhere on their website it mentions it not to seal the wall completely. I generally use Beeline paste yellow top (probably need to move to red top although haven't had issues in the past) Had a few issue with some seems opening up so looking for the best primer / sealer going forward. I think the the old paint i've lined over isn't stuck to the wall very well, maybe someone has't primed over new plaster years ago or maybe someones painted over a wall straight after stripping old wallpaper so hard to say just very annoying being in a situation with seems opening up / coming away in a few places a few days after lining when it wasn't obvious of any issues even after a sizing. Oh im lining to repaint not papering over the top on this one. Beeline don't have the best tech line to call!! @@ProfessionalPainterDecorator

Had a problem my feature paper seams wouldn't stick on wall rock should i apply this before hanging my feature paper on the lined surface in your opinion?

I like it, not as versatile as gardz but not as messy, I don’t think you can actually fill over the beeline unlike Gardz, according to The Traditional Painter website/ blog that I used to watch religiously anyway but if you’re not using it to prime cracks etc I guess that won’t matter….incidentally looking forward to trying H&G on your recommendation 👍🏻

Let me know how you go on.
There's no real info data sheet about for the primer sealer , it goes along way when you thin it.
At least you can still paint on it like Gardz

Starting using the beeline sealer years ago as a sealer pre artexing days. 30 yes plus ago
As you've stated it's great to hang paper on or paint over.
brilliant stuff imo ,can't go wrong with ratio guide.
