If you're thinking: "I want these vegetables to look/feel/taste like meat" you WILL be disappointed, it's impossible. Instead, try thinking: "I want these vegetables to taste good!" You'd be surprised how creative people can get, taste/quality is VERY dependent on the chef.
Yeah I think that's fair, don't look at it with that mindset. It'll only disappoint you, think of it with great respect for the chefs who tried to make it taste good when you're going vegan if you were a meat eater before thus
See the thing is, I love veggies but only in certain ways. I cannot stand salads because of the texture on them. It'd be impossible for me to be vegan. But I adore things like Roast Dinner and I always eat the veggies and potato before the meat. Veggies can taste amazing. Schools just don't do a good job of making them taste amazing, giving us a huge fear of them and ehe stigma that they're bland.
As a Vietnamese, i totally understand. Like, most of food we eat are vegetable and fruit. Even if we eat meat, we eat meat with vegetable ❤ not vegetarian, we just love eating vegetable with everything :))))) even in our phở broth, bún bò huế broth, there are vegetable in it, it giving flavor as well as animal bones. Sorry for my bad english xD watching this video just make me happy and proud
This was a very unexpected video and I was afraid of the outcome, but this was nice! I'm also Chinese and have been vegan for over 4 years. It's not difficult at all but it definitely is a lifestyle dedicated towards the environment or animals etc. I find often homecooked food (no matter if vegan or not) is way better than what you can buy outside. Maybe you can try going gluten free for a week? I'd be so interested
The korean dish they made is a recipie from korean vegan on youtube. Ive made this recipie before and its one of my favorite. Its better to cut the tofu into smaller cubes and it looks like you didont let it fry long enough ( it looks softish texture) ehen u let it get crunchy, it tastes much better .
Agreed, but the dishes they where getting actually did not look that good... But yea, just go to a good normal Indian restaurang and their vegan food is usually super good.
i feel like the restaurant they went didn't do it justice, all the vegetarian option in a good indian restaurant i had were ALWAYS SOOOOOO GOOOD which vegan isn't far from vegetarian. It's definitely the restaurant not doing indian vegan food justice
Same, it just becomes a way of life huh! When they made the tofu at the end, I was wishing they did the freezer method so the tofu would come out crispier 🙃
Yes, vegan Indian and even American food is so good-the restaurants they went to were mid. I find vegan Indian food the easiest to cook too, and I like that Indian and American vegan cuisine have other ingredients besides soy.
I had indian vegetarian (vegan maybe even?) indian food... It was amazing! If I was to become a vegetarian, I would probably eat nothing but indian food...
It’s because the subcontinent has millennia of history in making specifically vegetarian and vegan cuisine for socioreligious, disciplinary and health reasons. When you do something for that long, it evolves into its own thing. I grew up as a complete vegetarian, and I still am to this day. As far as what you had, it was most likely a mix of food. Most vegetarian Indian food is vegan as well if it doesn’t use milk products. So, something like paneer would not be vegan. Paneer is like tofu, which is vegan, but made with milk instead of soy. South Indian cuisine is also loaded with amazing vegetarian dishes.
I'm stoked you guys did a vegan video! I would totally suggest doing this again, but asking the vegan community for some suggestions/cult favourites. I'm a vegan filipino (which if you know anyone filipino, our food is basically meat on meat on meat) but find that Toronto is a mecca for vegan food! Bring me some for vegan chickun (in Hamilton, but the same owners also have a vegan 'butcher'), Kiln and Pai offers vegan options (including a vegan khao soi), there's a vegan-only viet restaurant called Viet Chay Vegan, Honey's Ice Cream, Bellona, and what feels like new places opening up all the time.
The thing is that in all other cuisines it's like mostly replicas of meat/fish dishes which they try to make from replaced ingredients but for Indian cuisine it's not needed bcoz there's this huge amount of original varieties of dishes to choose from and most are very healthy options..
Lmao, the sponsor was kinda random for you guys, but I've been thinking about improving my facial skin care routine recently, so it's much appreciated! 😅
I had this vegan 'duck' which was actually tofu. Was curious on how accurate they could have made it; didnt taste like duck at all but it was delicious tofu!! If people didn't see vegan food as a 'meat-alternative', i think people would be more open to eating it. I mean i loveee baked broccoli and could eat them everyday :D
14:15 - 5 years into being vegan, I don't feel like it's something I need to be particularly dedicated to. For the first month or so yeah but then you just get used to it and its a very passive thing, and if you're doing it for ethical reasons then having that really passive way to make a difference is a nice thing to have.

I don't visit often) they serve vegan food and bro I shit u not it's so fucking good and I'm just dumbfounded how they make it so good. Made my vegan experience amazing altho Meat > Vegetables
They actually went to one of the worst indian restaurants to have a try on this one😅. Atleast go to somewhere decent yk. Some of the other places looked so much better than others too. I guarantee on average indian vegan food beats everyone on the list yo (this is coming from a sri lankan btw). Overall food its debatable
if you want a good vegan burrito you can literally just go to chipotle or most buritto places and get the veg/tofu one fresh is an ok restaurant, but there are way better places to eat in toronto i suggest guerilla burger or soy boys for a good vegan burger i'm happy you guys went to tenon! that's probably the best vegan sushi spot i know of a great viet resto is saigon lotus which is in kensington market - their pho might not have the meatiness but it's got such a delicious and clear flavour that i don't know how else to describe korean food is tough but if you know what to ask for, you can always have some kind of option at restaurants like bibimbap with tofu instead or soft tofu soup with veg broth as for chinese food, greens vegetarian restaurant and buddha's vegan restaurant also in the kensington area are solid choices as for reasons for going vegan, there are many and while it is a commitment, the reason why is always what keeps us going thanks for eating vegan food and i'm happy you enjoyed it
I am Vietnamese. I've been vegan/vegetarian for decades and have searched far and wide for the best vegan cuisine. Vietnamese vegan food is my favorite. If you're vegetarian in Europe, Italian vegetarian food will not disappoint. However, if you're vegan, no other cuisine beats Vietnamese.
Nice! What was the name of the food court restaurant at FMP? I live in Markham so curious to try those crunchy snacks :-). And also which place did you go for vegan Viet food?
Im not a straight up vegan but I eat a loss less meat for health reasons. I think people that get upset about vegans that want to have flavors and textures of perhaps something they used to eat growing up, I think thats just fine. I think its funny the judgement that vegans get. Glad yall gave it a shot.
Indian food is the best option for vegan and guys you should try the chat not the roti sabji which is simple food just try something tasty and vegan like there are so many options
Problem is ur trying to create typical "meat" dishes vegan. Nothing wrong with vegan's wanting to eat lets say cheese or meatballs so they try to recreate it. But honestly there are a lot of yummy food that doesn't involve meat/meat by products that isn't just a salad.
Im vietnamese and Phó soip is actually made if onions and other stuff since my mom makes it and you can ask the waiter for Phó without beef or chicken but if you wanna eat a Bánh mì then thats also vegan. BUT, most Bánh mì have char siu or a type if meat in them.
There is a lot of misconceptions about vegan food. Like the only thing your allowed to eat is salads and fruit. Which is obviously not true. There are a lot of foods that are vegan that most people already eat. Such as hummus, salsa, guacamole just to name a few. Being vegan doesn't mean that you can eat well. It's just about substitutions and finding things that are similar to the foods that we use to eat. Although obviously it's not always going to be spot on but close enough is good enough for most people. Plus we can have peace of mind that no animals were harmed.
meat addiction is a real problem and significantly affects your health, a few of you need to take a break and give it a real chance (for the planet too - overconsumption of meat is the reason for deforestation and climate change)

I used to hate Tofu and now I could eat it every day. I love tofu and Soy Curls.
