Hyssop' in the Bible - Purge Me With Hyssop - What Does It Mean

- King David wrote in Psalm 51:7 in the bible, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” David prayed this prayer after Nathan the prophet came and confronted him about his sin of going into Bathsheba, committing adultery and murder (2 Samuel 12:1-14). As he began to meditate on the law, David felt great remorse and truly repented from his sin. He wanted to restore his relationship with God. His understanding of the healing properties of Hyssop as a purifier inspired him in his psalm of prayer to God.
The Hebrew word for “Hyssop” in the bible is esob, and means “holy herb.” Hyssop is considered to be spiritually purifying and serves as an aid in cleansing oneself from sin, immorality, evil thoughts, or bad habits.
The method of using Hyssop oil (inhaled or applied to the body) to purge oneself from iniquity has a scientific basis. Hyssop has constituents that can reprogram the DNA where sinful tendencies (negative emotions) are stored, thus releasing and cleansing the root cause of the action.
Another reason for the Jewish belief that Hyssop repels evil spirits is because of the passage in the book of Exodus, where Moses asked the elders of Israel to sacrifice a spotless lamb and to use a Hyssop branch to apply the blood of the lamb to the doorposts of their dwellings.
At the first Passover, the angel of death killed the firstborn son of every household except those whose doorway was marked with the lamb’s blood using a Hyssop branch. Exodus 12:22 says, “And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin.” Striking the doorposts would have released the scent of the Hyssop and the oil. Yeshua, who died in His Bride’s place, became the Passover Lamb. In John 19:29, it reads, “Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.”
They dipped the sponge in sour wine or vinegar and extended it to His mouth on a branch of Hyssop because He is the door. This prophetic charade portrayed His blood as the only way of salvation and the Hyssop-symbolic of the Holy Spirit-as the one who purifies and sanctifies the believer.
Hyssop is good for easing colds, coughs, and fever as a decongestant. It helps reduce fat in tissue, raises low blood pressure, opens the respiratory system, and strengthens and tones the nervous system. Hyssop serves as a sedative and is good for quieting anxiety and clearing the mind.

I came looking for information about Hyssop because I woke up and heard the word, “Hyssop” and thought I remembered it mentioned in the Bible.
Everyday, I find I am praying for Jesus’ blood to cover our home and all of us in it, and my children, wherever they go, my family, all I know who Love Jesus, those in need, sick, disabled, anyone innocent and in danger, who love the Lord, and countless people I pray for, even for the souls of the lost to be turned to see the truth, the light, and the way, and accept Christ, before the time is too late, as evil is obvious and out in the open, growing like never before, and is accepted more and more as “normal” as evidence of “tolerance”. We should never tolerate evil. All that is against God is Evil. God is good and Anti-God is NOT. Simple. God’s wrath, at those committing evil against Him and mocking the sacrifice of His own Son, and evil acts against His people will not be held back forever. Please do not hesitate if the Holy Spirit is convicting you of your sin. Repent. Ask Jesus to be Lord and Savior of your whole being. You don’t have to change first to accept Him. We are weak but HE is STRONG! He will change you from the inside out, once you let Him in and make Him Lord, Amen!

Some time ago I was looking through seeds at a local flower shop, and saw hyssop seeds. I thought this is some decorative flower. Then I found out it's edible and now it's even a Biblical herb common in Israel. The centre of my most favorite culture. I'm 100% sure it was God who lead me to this herb because he knows I love him, Jewish culture, and nature.

Yes, it is something to think about. The hyssop herb we are familiar with doesn't grow tall with branches.
Hyssop also represents faith for they applied the blood on the door it took the action of obedience to apply it but we know that faith itself is Yehovah’s gift and it’s action is manifested by the Holy Spirit

Found this video because I just took a vitamin C supplement that contains hyssop. I recalled there are verses about that herb in the Bible.
A vitamin that contains hyssop? Interesting. Hyssop is good for the respiratory system.

Hyssop is confession. Cleansing is repentance. When we confess our sins one to another, the sin no longer has power over us. The blood is referring to death to our carnal man as a living sacrifice. Yeshua died to HIMSELF first for his own sins then for our past sins. Most Christians don’t understand new covenant death burial and resurrection. It has nothing to do with literal flesh only carnal flesh.

There was no prophecy about a crucifixion on a literal cross only a spiritual cross like Yeshua said all sons must die on. Pick up your cross Deny yourself and follow after me. If it was a literal cross then why dont Christians do what he said? The NT is fulfilled spiritually not literally. The stories were corrupted by the beast of Rome and her pagan mystery religion of Babylon. Human sacrifice is highly forbidden by God. Yeshuas obedience unto death of his carnal desires as our high priest covers our past sins while in Egypt, thus the passover. We must die for our future sins, on our spiritual cross THEN our future sins are forgiven. It's called repentance, to STOP THE SINS unto spiritual death as listed in the bible. The NT has nothing to do with physical death. Its talking about spiritual death, burial and resurrection. This is death Yeshua completed successfully FIRST as the firstborn of the spiritually dead. The first son of many sons to follow after him. REV.. 3:21
@@doowop25 Hebrews 7:26-27. Plus hebrews 5 6,7,8,9 shows us how he was perfected by the temptations he suffered through like all sons. Rev. 3:21. Zech 3 prophecies his dirty clothes were removed and he was crowned high priest. All believers must overcome sins unto spiritual death just like our high priest did first. Then we too will be sinless and conceived by the seed of God as he was. I John 3:9-10.
Roman's 1:3-4 proves he was 100% human being who became the firstborn son of many sons at his spiritual resurrection (Jordan), not his physical birth. Christian's were deceived long ago.
@@RoseSharon7777 I think I kind of see your point about dying to the flesh but I do believe you're wrong that there's no prophecy about a crucifixion on a literal cross. Prophecy clearly states that the Messiah would die on a literal cross not a figurative one.

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: -This prophecy is spoken in Deuteronomy:
Deuteronomy 21:22-23
22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:
23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
John 19 also clearly lays out the prophesies of the death on the cross and how Jesus fulfilled it.
I would encourage you to read the whole chapter because it's full of prophecies fulfilled but I'll just post a few key points:
John 19:31-36 are crucial in seeing this and in verse 36 it says,
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. (Prophesied in Psalm 34:20, Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12)
Then John 19:37 says, And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced (Prophesied in Zechariah 12:10).
All those scriptures clearly point to a literal death on a literal cross. Not breaking Jesus' bones and looking on him whom they pierced (in his side with a spear and out came blood and water) were fulfillment of prophecies of a death on a cross. Hope this helps :-)

This video shows the wrong hyssop. Israeli Hyssop of the Bible is Origanum Syriacum. Look it up and you will see it is much more like Oregano. This video shows Hyssopus officinalis which is different than the Israeli hyssop.
Thanks for watching our video and for sharing this. I will let our editors know. Regarding the biblical hyssop, it is even questionable that the English translation is speaking of this plant. For example, when it says that it grew up the walls in one verse.
I read some other info saying botanical hyssop is different than the hyssop of the bible. They were saying biblical hyssop is actually oregano herb. Oreganum vulgare. Do you agree? I was kind of hoping biblical hyssop was the botanical hyssop flower lol. Either way I just want to take the right one.
I have heard rumors as well. I guess no one can say for sure, but I can't imagine it being oregano.
