So sad, I miss John as much as he does-we grew up listening to them both. I am 60 now myself. I understand why he doesn't like to sing this song so much!! Miss & love you John!! RIP Brother!!
i never heard this song- i know!! i know! i'm younger but i knew exactly who it was about without Elton saying....just beautiful- i can't think of anything else to describe it.
I saw him sitting this Live at a fundraiser For hillary clinton It was amazing No political comments please When someone gives you a gift Of 1000 dollars seats To elton john you take them No matter what your politics are
i will be seeing Sir Elton play in Yakima WA in July. I pray he will play this song, but I understand he doesn't play it too often live. This is an incredible performance.
@TheDissident77 I totally understand. I think John would be the first person to object to such "canonization". You're absolutely right that he was "just a musician". But it was his unique human-ness, his honesty about what he thought and felt, and his ability to put it in songs, that made everyone (myself included) love him so much. He didn't raise himself to the level of world-class icon; people who identified with him did so.
The"Insect"part...absolutely brilliant choice of words. Now somebody please hand me a giant can of Black Flag before some demented judge lets this killing machine run loose.
Loved this song when it came out. Still haven't figured out exactly why John Lennon is so...canonized. He was just a musician. Made music, did lots of drugs, had some stupid ideas. BUT I've never been one to idolize famous people. They are wanting just like everyone else. Love the song though
@77edster loss of Elton's voice in 1986 while on tour in Australia. Shortly thereafter he underwent throat surgery, which permanently altered his voice. Several non-cancerous polyps were removed from his vocal cords, resulting in a change in his singing voice
@77edster to my knowledge he had to have an operation on his vocal cords and thats why he can't reach the highs he use to be able to reach during his live performances
A beautiful song in tribute to John Lennon. I have the 45. RIP John and George.
