Ernest Holmes (1887-1960) was a New Thought philosopher and minister who began writing metaphysical books in the 1920s, publishing his seminal work, The Science of Mind, in 1926. Dr Holmes also originated the international Science of Mind magazine, which has been in continuous publication since 1927.
Dr Holmes’ work was focused on explaining a universal philosophy and providing practical tools for spiritual living. Born in Maine in 1887, he was largely self-taught through studying the writings of the notable thinkers of his time: Ralph Waldo Emerson, Christian D. Larson, Thomas Troward and Phineas P. Quimby. Holmes moved to Southern California in 1914. He established the Church of Religious Science in 1927 (now known as Centers for Spiritual Living).
During his lifetime, Holmes influenced and inspired the positive thinking of Dr Norman Vincent Peale, Peggy Lee, Cary Grant, Cecil B. DeMille and countless others. His work continues to inspire and resonate today through the popularity of authors such as Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and many more.
