  • Nov. 18-24 is World Antimicrobial Awareness Week - a global campaign that aims to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance worldwide and encourage best practices among the general public, health care workers and policymakers to slow the development and spread of drug-resistant infections.
    Antimicrobial resistance is a serious threat to public health, patient safety and national security. IDSA is working on multiple fronts to strengthen the United States’ response to antimicrobial resistance. Research efforts have been made to meet the urgent need for treatment with success in yielding activity against resistant Gram-negative bacteria by deactivating the mechanism of resistance.
    Learning objectives:
    • Gain an understanding of the disease burden of Gram-negative resistance and the impact of COVID-19 on antimicrobial resistance;
    • Review the mechanisms of Gram-negative resistance;
    • Deepen understanding of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, ESBLs and CRE;
    • Increase awareness of outcomes associated with Gram-negative resistance and the consequences of delayed appropriate therapy.
