  • These little guys have been so amazingly useful for me to manage the audio sensory issues that come along with being autistic, so I wanted to share my experience as a little review for anyone else that might find them useful!

    Such similar experiences. Half the burnout is intolerable sensory discomfort. And I also hadn’t realised that until recently. I was just known for being irritable and snapping at people. I have the Calmer ear buds now as well and have found that being out and about is infinitely more manageable.

    It’s weird seeing someone describing me. Especially the store thing. When I’m over stimulated, that’s it....I want to be out of the store that very minute. I’m absolutely exhausted after shopping.

    Thank you for recommending these. Got them around a fortnight ago after hearing you and been using since. In simple words, my life is no more the same. All of a sudden there is so much of time-space available. It appears that my entire day was about unconsciously only dealing with the sensory issues, now I see there is more to me. Insane. Thank you and Flare Audio.

    Totally relate to the shopping issues, so many sounds, the lights, and so many THINGS. Glad Calmers work for you. I tried them for a while and really wanted them to work, but honestly did absolutely nothing for me. I tried a different earplug that blocks more sound and it's better. Less evening tinnitus after wearing a good plug also.

    Thank you so much for the review Dana! I've been considering getting Calmer as I am also autistic and really struggle with the sound. At one point I was looking into active noise cancelling headphones but they're quite expensive and have a lot of mixed reviews of effectiveness for the purposes of sound sensitivity. I'm excited to see if they help me, and if they do get some for the rest of my autistic family and friends as well!

    Great video. I am a teacher and the acoustics in my classroom are dreadful. It's not like the pupils are screaming and shouting but low level talking x 30 teenagers is amplified to an uncomfortable degree. I am trying these Calmer noise filters and so far so good...I didn't realise how stressed the uncomfortable noise was making me. I will definitely recommend these to our pupils who are on the Autism spectrum.

      Hello! Im an education senior and for internship purposes im planning to get them, how does using them while teaching play out? Im more concerned on the usability while teaching since I know it won't be comfortable if you hear yourself really loud when talking? Student noise burns me out so im hoping this would help me at least in the sensory department.

    I have diagnosed ADHD/inconclusive ASD diagnosis (seeking second opinion), migraines and sound sensitivity/sensory processing disorder and also tinnitus. In my perception, Flare Calmer provides very minimal insulation from noise, but the tradeoff is you can still hear very well at most frequencies. With FC, you can still mostly hear, but the sounds seem "softer", it sounds to me like it works by attenuating some harsh frequencies, like hi's and hi-mid's I think (I used to mix audio). I don't perceive that FC has any effect on my tinnitus and I didn't get them for that purpose. I wear them around the house and office and they make some household sounds less grating is all.
    I wear musician's earplugs from Eargasm and Hearprotek (I'm sure there are other good brands) when I feel I need auditory sensory reduction but I don't want to be deafened, and I feel they really help a lot. Musician's earplugs are my go-to hearing protection for anything that isn't dangerous high pressure sound (use rated protection like shooting plugs or ear muffs for that, follow OSHA or equivalent recommendations).
    I also have Loop Quiet, which provide substantial auditory reduction, but I don't wear them in the world because they make me nearly deaf. I wear those on planes; very comfortable to wear for long periods and sleep. I just bought Loop Experience; less sound reduction than Quiet and very good looking, like fashion accessory good looking, but they haven't arrived yet. I hope this helps someone.

    I often run around with my BOSE QCII they pretty good in blocking out nasty sounds, but sometimes i have to put them down for social stuff , like Checkout in Store . I rarely put up Music on them to hear everything else around me, but just dimmed down. I also need them to sleep. I live at home and my Pareents rarely care about how i feel with all the crappy noise around me. Im highly sensitive to noise having hyperacusis and Misophonia

    Do you hear your voice louder in your head when you talk with them on? I want to be aware of my volume when talking and I'm worried they'll affect that. Also do you find they help when multiple people's voices are overlapping and talking over each other? That's the biggest thing that gets me :o

    • @DanaAndersen
      @DanaAndersen  3 роки тому +2

      That’s the main thing that’s always put me off ordinary ear plugs, but with these my voice sounds the same with them in or out! I think I maybe hear a slightly more accurate version of my voice, it sounds a little higher pitched than usual to me with them in, but I can still hear and control my vocal volume like I normally can!
      With voices it of course depends on the situation, but when shopping for example I find it easier to pick out the voice of whoever I’m with rather than those around us.

    I have purchased Flare Calmer to help me with sound sensitivity after watching this video. The effect: None at all. I hear everything just the same, absolutely no difference. No wonder you can only purchase the plugs on their own page and not on ones where they get reviews. Flare's newer products that do get reviews on Amazon, well... They describe my experience with those a lot better than anything else. Refund? To ship from EU, care for customs,... Not worth it. But about this video: I'm still glad they helped you with your auditory issues (even if I have absolutely no idea, how), since I know, how overwhelming even a supermarket visit or a computer ventilating can be!

      @@DanaAndersen Thank you for your sweet reply! I'm afraid it's not worth the effort, at least for me personally, from what I've read on their refund page. With ADHD, finding the right customs form and filling it out properly can be more challenging than earning the money spent in my job, where at least there I know what I am doing ;) Anyhow, I've checked it off as a bad experience for me. Still, I wanted to say I'm sorry about the tone of my first comment that I realized just now with a bit distance. I have ADHD and the same sensory issues. I ordered them, but they haven’t arrived yet so I was curious. In your vid you mention that you also have a huge problem with lights. I also made this experience in school. After maybe 30 min sitting under these LED lights I was so exhausted that I needed about an hour or more of sleep. Have you found a solution for this too already?

    • @DanaAndersen

      Calmer help massively for the buzzing noise that comes from them, you can still hear it, but they really take the edge off to make it manageable! For the visual issue with them I’ve not found a solution, but it’s no where near as bad when not combined with the awful sound!

      I have high sensitivities. Specially to lights, sounds and smells. I've been wearing blue light glasses and it has been a life changing. It took me a little bit to get used to them but once I did it has been great. I used to have headaches everyday and now it's rare, at least because of light. It still hurts when it's too cloudy and white. I also have my devices with the blue filter (eye care) on all the time. I also adjust the light of those devices depending on the light of the enviroment. There's plenty of options of blue glasses, mine were cheap, about $15 or so. I hope it helps you.

    I’m autistic but didn’t know until this year I’ve masked unconsciously my whole life…so when it comes to my sensory issues I can somewhat tell when I’m overloaded but my partner can tell more I struggle to realise when I’m getting overloaded or pinpoint why does anyone here have any advice ?

    • @another_one2852
      @another_one2852 2 роки тому +2

      I’m no expert but all my life I had no clue that I had sensory issues. When I was younger I was hyposensitive and as I’ve gotten over I’ve become increasingly hypersensitive. I’ve read that female persons (regardless of gender) tend to more commonly mask than males.
      It perhaps could be due to society or perhaps certain biological factors, but I’d personally think it might be more due to societal differences.
      What I’ve started to do is implement a ‘check-in’ in situations where I might be overwhelmed without knowing it. So loud and busy environments, or poorly or brightly lit environments, or maybe situations where I’m having to rush myself.
      In the ‘check-ins’ I ask myself what do I notice my body doing. So like is my heart beating quicker or more noticeably, is my breathing quicker or heavier, am I noticing pain anywhere like a headache or stomach ache, etc.
      I also ask myself what I MAY (keyword, MAY) be feeling emotionally as a response to either the environment, situation, or my body’s physical responses.
      Then I ask what may possibly be cause this difference in how I’m feeling. Usually I can gather it’s the business of a crowd, or it’s the dim lights in a restaurant, or it’s the bumpiness and jerkiness of a car ride.
      It takes a lot of practice, and I think this is merely a starting point in unraveling things, but it’s helped me to start self-reflection in other areas of life. Being unable to afford a doctor or psychologist currently, I must say this is helping a lot until I can afford to see professionals again.
