I’m a classical music composer, and these are quite amazing when it comes to hearing detail in orchestration. I’ve also experienced big orchestral works such as Schoenberg’s Gurre-lieder and Mahler’s 8th Symphony with them and the difference is just insane!!! So far, I’m loving them.

Yes, I have them for few weeks and I love them. I barely notice them, very comfortable
      Edit: lol, missed the question.
Yes, playing video games, with good headphones. Loud gun shots are now much better.

Only tried on my AKG Q701 headphones through a Dragonfly Black DAC, and seriously disappointed so far, but need to test on my hi-fi. Even after hours of having these things in, music lost harmonic richness, some instruments actively became harder to pick out and lost a lot of attack and character, and I even got a weird sense of compression: was listening to Peg by Steely Dan and the chorus first sounded like it was opening up and then suddenly it felt reined in and lifeless. Felt rather disturbing.
I do have VERY tight ear canals, so I wonder if my ears actually generate less distortion than average somehow... Will try my Grado SR325e's and hi-fi for another test of these things. For non-music usage I love them, though. Voices in a room are more distinct and extraneous noise from the likes of screaming kids outside is nicely attenuated. Hopefully I will get better luck on speakers, but I live in a flat where music can be heard easily by other neighbours, so I favour cans. I could see these being great for listening to music in a room, just not over headphones for me!

I got them and found them abysmal to be honest. They did nothing positive for me at all. They didn't fit comfortable, they fell out and they even hurt my right ear (and I'm very used to in ears). They made me feel like I had a cold and my ears were blocked, horrible experience. I wore them for a while and I didn't adjust it just made everything sound dull and muted. I thought i'd at least try some music on my HD800's and it sounded awful...it was like listening to a low quality MP3 file, like a 96kbps file with all the mid and high information bizarrely filtered out. Remove them and you can hear everything perfectly again.
I don't think these are actually doing anything positive, they're nothing more than ear plugs with holes in the middle that mute some frequencies a bit.

I just received mine, and I'll need more time to realize if they're actually muffling the sound, but so far so good.
They're working as advertised. They're calming the sound of pianos, trumpets, peakiness, and frequencies that would normally hurt my ears or at least cause some discomfort.
You can still "hear" everything, which is great, but again I'll need more time to see if it's actually just muffling the sound overall.
These should do great out in public with all the noise of day to day cars, etc.

RE: TINNITUS - Actually it's helping mine. I have a 11khz whistle that I sometimes perceive as low as 8khz, and I find that now I'm actually slowly regaining some frequencies. At first, you perceive your tinnitus more apparently over music due to the HF roll-off of calmer, then suddenly, you start to notice you're regaining a little more detail and hearing actual information, as opposed to your tinnitus. It starts as a tingling sensation, specially the first time you put them on. Then your hearing somehow feels "colder"/"cooler". I feel like it's re-training my brain/damaged nerves.
Will report back after a week or so. Right now, I'm just so happy to hear the strumming rhythm and detail of the right channel guitar on Deftones' "Be Quiet and Drive". I've regained some balance in the stereo field (I hear less high frequencies in my right ear due to the tinnitus).

I got mine yesterday. I am NOT a paid reviewer. A wonderful person I know got them for me to see if they would help.
Background: My tinnitus is absolutely horrible. I had very bad ear infections as a kid and have burst my ear drums so many times that I got noticable holes in them. Being in the Military around gun fire didn't help either I'm sure.
So for me to get a good night with that crazy high pitch whine is next to impossible. I litterly have to sleep with headphones on playing background noise to sleep.
I'm still getting used to the being in my ears and they felt very strange at first. After 12 hours of constant use they don't bother me near as bad. Also the whine noise I normally hear all day has gotten less annoying. I am also noticing that vocals ranges are easier to hear. I did take a short nap with them in and seemed to fall asleep quicker.
I'm gonna try them for a few days first to make sure This is not a placebo effect. So far though. I'm impressed.
Only complaint is that sometimes the fail down into my ear. However they are quick to push right back up. Possibly make slightly different sizes would be a suggestion.
Lastly, Friend paid $27 usd for them directly from thier facebook page and they got here in 1 week from ordering.

May I ask how you know what frequency your tinnitus is and how you what frequency you perceive it to be? I've also got slight tinnitus and sometimes feels like even two different tones in my head at the same time. It's not majorly bad but I've just moved somewhere a lot quieter and it's made it feel more pronounced.

I got them in the hope that they'd help reduce my tinnitus. They haven't noticably done so yet, but where I do find them making a difference is at work. I'm in an environment that subjects me to random, loud, sharp noises that have often triggered an increase in the tinnitus level. These inserts definitely are taking the edge off these sounds for me. As for their effectiveness in reducing the tinnitus sound itself, I think that may just depend on the type of tinnitus you're experiencing. Worth a try, I believe.

    • @herringfly
      @herringfly 3 роки тому +1

@@arthuro.l.7923 No, because I read while listening to a "rain machine" and that seems to help me sleep. Focuses the mind on an external sound. I've a feeling they wouldn't particularly help me with sleeping but, again, that probably depends on your tinnitus. For the price, I'd give them a go. If nothing else, they'll flatten out those irritating sharp sounds that seem to aggravate tinnitus. I know this sounds lame, but there are also 'self-hypnosis' exercises that might help you sleep. I've used them for years and they do work, but not 100% initially - you have to persevere for a few days/weeks. There are lots of sites on it but here's one I found to give you some idea how it works - www.autogenic-therapy.org.uk/

I received mine a couple of days ago. I was somewhat confused by the instructions on how to install the 'earplugs?' but today I tried (confusing instructional sketch). It didn't go well and after a few frustrating minutes, I had them installed. That's when my problem started - I have very small ear canals and expected they be hard to fit in - not true because they're quite small and flexible. However I decided I should remove them to see how that process would go. First one (right ear) no problem, Second one (left ear) I could not pinch the little tab to remove it. It was so deep neither I nor my wife (even with her handy splinter tweezers) could extract it. I ended up going to the emergency department at my local hospital (last place I wanted to go during Covid19) but on a Sunday. With panic setting in - and a statutory holiday the next day (no family doctor available) it was my only choice. After a short wait (multiple Covid19 questions) I got to see the admitting nurse - again a few more Covid19 questions and asking what's wrong - she had a look and her comment was 'how did you get that way down there' - a good question for which I had no answer, but I want it out! She eliminated the rest of the admitting process and went to get surgical tweezers (autoclaved) and quickly removed the 'Calmer' earplugs. I'm in the process of returning them as there definitely not for me. I liked the whole idea of these things but please beware of putting them in too deep!

With Hyperacusis It’s more to do with how your brain is interpreting the signal. Once I knew that, I endured the pain of louder sounds in the knowledge it was fake pain, so slowly exposing to louder sounds, building it up. Now I’m fully past it 👍🏼

Its such a horrible place to be, crockery being put away was one of the worst household sounds I couldn't deal with, all these sounds were being encoded by my brain as if they had massive resonant peaks that were destroying my ear drums, it was a very physical sensation, the pain was sharp and unbearable. You will need strong willpower to get over it, it can destroy your life if you allow it to.
As long as you are sure it is hyperacusis, and not something else, I implore you to start dealing with the pseudo pain, ignore it, your brain is malfunctioning, my specialist said words to the effect of (i cant remember exactly but...) the part of your brain that deals with this, is right next to part of the brain that deals with trauma. He said life trauma can be one possible trigger for hyperacusis. Hope some of the above helps someone in some way so they can rise above it :)

danielkavanagh1994 as long as the sounds are not above the known standards. E.g. Use a dosimeter, you can even get free ones that work with your smart phone to get an approximation. The standards differ in different countries but it’s my understanding that 85dB is not going to hurt you if exposed for no longer than 4 hours. I was experiencing pain at 75dB immediately. For peace of mind Get the tests done if you can to make sure nothing else is going on as I’m obv not a doctor.
Like you, I also live with severe tinnitus but I just ignore it and my brain does a fantastic job of filtering it. At night when going to sleep I prefer to have a fan running to blank out the tinnitus. My tinnitus is loud enough I can hear it over the TV if I focus on it, but my choose is ignore and filter and it works for me. The whole thing is a massive psychological game. Good luck! Hi, Regarding Tinnitus, I kept them in 24/7 for about 7 days I hadn’t really noticed any difference at that point, if anything I was slightly more aware of my annoying high pitched whistling tinnitus, that may have been because I was thinking about it more or just hoping it would make a huge difference, I was really trying to listen to other noises but frustrated and disappointed that I couldn’t hear them. After the 7th day my ears became a little sore so had to remove them for about a week. When listening to music, TV etc it is clearer and does make you feel calmer as described, but so far unfortunately for Me it hasn’t yet helped my Tinnitus. I shall keep trying and if I notice any improvements I shall post another message. Everyone is different so they may work for someone else. If Someone has a miracle cure please let me no. Thanks

That is an interesting question. If you understand how your equipment sounds and it then transfers nicely to other systems then I would say yes. I have known people make great mixes on shitty systems because they understand that sound. Now, the same argument could be made for these but I think the benefit (if you keep them in all the time) is when you take them out to mix after letting your ears 'relax'. Mine are coming today so I'm going to test all this stuff out.

I have bought them after so many positive opinions but unfortunately, they don't work for me. The sound is just muffled, I don't know how some people can say that the clarity of the sounds has improved, I just hear like I have a blanket on my head.
They are also not super comfortable, I feel them in my ears all the time and therefore I do not feel comfortable wearing them and sometimes it irritates me instead of calming me down.
It's probably a matter of ear structure or the spectrum we hear, each of us hears a bit differently.

Exactly the same as my experience. Sounded like I had a cold and my ears were blocked - horrible. Did nothing positive and made my HD800's sound horrible, like I was listening to a low quality MP3. Ironically it hurt me ears more and it had filtered some snare drums to the point that some of the sounds were actually hurting my ears.
Load of pseudo-science nonsense if you ask me that people are falling for. We're probably the only ones with good ears here (I know I can hear over 22k anyway)

Flare audio makes some that you can sleep in, they are made with a softer silicone.

They do absolutely nothing for Tinnitus. Don't believe the hype

So they don’t soften out the harsh sounds that usually trigger/increase tinnitus no? Asking because I have tinnitus and what he described actually sounds beneficial.

I didn't get on with these at all. After a while, they started to hurt my ears and would often dislodge when chatting or eating due to movement of the jaw. From an audio perspective, they seem to reduce the overall volume of everything as well as dropping a lot of the top end. To me, they took a lot of 'excitement' out of my hearing so needless to say, I sacked them off. It's interesting you think so highly of them. Perhaps I need to give them a 2nd chance. Well, 5th or 6th.

I mean the product is named “calmer” I’d recommend looking elsewhere for “excitement”

And me - I got them and found them abysmal to be honest.

@@TheDanielShepherd ditto. I lost one the other day, slipped out and I didn't notice. A fairly expensive experiment. Useless! Pure marketing hype. Check reviews of Flare audio stuff too, abysmal 😑

Hi, these are not for that. You should then choose the once for sleeping or ear protection on the Calmer Site. These here are not protectors, they enhance the hearing.

RE: Tinnitus/Waveguide/Flare Calmer. Sadly I have to disagree with most of this. Although not intended for Tinnitus I thought I'd give these a go back at product launch as some sufferers had purportedly experienced improvements. I also have a friend who suffers from tinnitus who borrowed them so these observations are not purely based on my own experiences. As they effectively filter out certain frequencies of everyday life some of which help mask our tinnitus the tinnitus was massively compounded. As a musician and producer for over 30-years (... sadly the cause of my tinnitus) the wave guide concept on which these are based is not a useful bit of pseudo science as it basically just dulls your ability to hear certain incredibly useful frequencies. From 2x user reviews these are not beneficial for tinnitus and if you want to filter out the world and feel calmer buy some earplugs for £1!

But with earplugs I can’t hear people speaking clearly, with these I can.

    • @Yillup
      @Yillup 3 роки тому

That seems a bit backwards. Rather than just muffle some frequencies and let others through, you recommend muffling all frequencies?

$30, actually, plus over $10 to ship something weightless in a cardboard mailer.
