METALLICA at WALMART? Honest Vinyl Record Review

  • You might say this is a hot topic. Metallica reissued 5 of their records as a limited edition at WalMart. Some don't care, some care...it is a battle of ethics, sound, prices, and everything in between.
    It's only rock and roll and I like it.

    Sound quality on the walmart Metallica pressings are actually really clean because Metallica owns their own pressing plant, so they actually pressed them and shipped them to walmart. They didn't use whatever pressing plants that Walmart uses for their own stuff.

    Good video man. I hear what you mean by cloudy audio. I wouldn’t say cloudy, I’d say soft. It’s not as loud and crisp as it could be. It’s not to noticeable if you ask me. Plus you can crank it to 11 and annoy your neighbors. When I listen to metal the neighbors do too, and It didn’t detract from my enjoyment of listening to the albums. I’m in that situation of my town has a record store, but they don’t have any original pressing, and collectors aren’t going to sell them. So this is the next best thing.

    I was in high school from 86-90 and got into Metallica in 84. RTL was one of my first albums ever purchased. When I was in high school, Metallica was a bunch of nobody’s, and only myself and about four others in my High School even knew who these guys were. I was the only one who wore a Metallica patched up Jean jacket every day. I used to collect rare Metallica albums back then. I still have my collection stored away somewhere... it’s composed of Different colored vinyl albums of Creeping Death & Jump in the Fire as well as picture discs of the first three albums and whiplash, bootleg concert recordings (including Cliff’s last show), interview picture discs, double LP’s, etc... all purchased back in the late 80s. I remember When AJFA came out, we had about 10-15 more students in the school that suddenly became fans. I knew things would never be the same from that point on. Once they hit the mainstream and became popular (pretty much from 1990 and on), I pretty much lost interest, as the nostalgia of being in that small exclusive club of fans was gone.

    I think these metallica albums are just sold at walmart, I doubt metallica would let walmart deal with pressing it considering metallica owns the rights to their albums now and has their own vinyl press. I think they are safe to buy because of that, I doubt metallica would let a sub par release of one of their albums happen after all the work they put in the own the rights on Blackened Recordings (their own label)

    • @BriansFunHouse
      @BriansFunHouse  3 роки тому

      good point, but it is my understanding that Blackened acts as a record company, but not a pressing plant. So i do wonder who they use as a pressing plant? Both Metallica and Walmart. Making money in a legal way isn't selling out. Making a piece of crap called St. Anger is an abomination and should bother metal heads more than Walmart selling great reproductions of these classic albums on colored vinyl. First, the albums sound great and the packaging is awesome. So go buy a dusty scratched original copy at Skips record Mart if you want I'm glad I bought these. I'm getting back into vinyl and I only buy classic LPs 180 gram. No Snap Crackle Pop for me.

      @@BriansFunHouse Well if you really want to know. Metallica shouldn’t have recorded that album in my opinion. James was going through hell trying to deal with alcoholism and trying to get his life and priorities in order. He was in a crisis and that made it impossible to focus on making a great record. The songs were recorded and performed terribly. James voice sounds weak and strained. Lars drums are very tinny sounding. The guitar sound sucks. Basically it’s their worse album and I never listen to it. All my opinion though I think I’m right. That doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy listening to James howl like a sick coyote and Lars bang on some garbage cans. It’s not for me.

    Maybe not for Metallica, but bands do that limited release thing and not a "crapload" of them so they don't flood the market. Nothing looks worse for a band than to put out a vinyl, charge say $25, then its all over ebay & discogs a year later for that price or less. Its todays version of the punch out record / bargain bin. Thats why there is so many different colored vinyl. Death puts out 1000 records of "Leprosy" on, I dunno, Stomach Bile Yellow. If it sells quickly, they will press another 1000 on, oh lets say, severed artery red. That one sells half as fast, then they know not to press any more.
    If they just reissed Leprosy on black vinyl & made 10k of them, they'd be stuck with a garage full of vinyl and they'd be all over the secondary market for cheap. But doing it the first way, they have made money and the vinyl keeps, and even increases, the equity and not become almost valueless.
    And it gives us metal vinyl dorks something to brag about & talk shit about 😄
