I know English is not your first language, so please understand how much I appreciate that you do these videos in English so that I can follow your wonderful project. I wish you the best of luck!
Hello, I have been waiting for your next video and here it is! Now you are discussing your gardens and park. I am a horticulturist. Remember I know you like ivy but the root system of ivy is very dense. You will be able to grow daffodils and narcissus, but tulips will not grow in the shade. And after a while the bulbs you plant in a forest will die back without replanting on an annual basis. As for your parterre garden the design is perfect. The shade trees will have to come down. It will need full sun, to thrive. I suggest the smaller ‘Korean Boxwood’ versus standard Buxus for the perimeter. I grew Annabelle hydrangea in my gardens and orchard in Newport, RI. They have enormous flowers. What is most special about them is that the white flowers turn a rich green color in the fall. I think you want leaves on your garden floor as well as the mulch will feed the trees. Do not let the ivy climb your trees. The ivy takes the energy away from the trees. You always present a fait a compli plan, so I hope you listen to one’s advice who has planted all of the small shrubs and perennials you are discussing. I love the plan, but do not expect tulips to grown in the shade. Also look into the native forest wild flowers that you can plant in your forest as well. There is wild ‘ladies slipper’, may apple, jack - in - the -pulpit’ a variety of plants that are beautiful in the spring and summer. Also trilium. On another note, have you planned for a underground watering system?
You sound very knowledgeable and I'd love to see your garden, but perhaps you don't know France and what will survive/thrive there? I don't mean to cause any offence and I'm probably reaching. I'm only saying because I love those trees and even though there's alot of shade I don't want to see them cut down 🙈
I had my little forest in Argentina, with ivy covering the ground and climbing the trees, where owls, pigeons and sparrows nested and had endless conversations with each other... Also an English-style garden, with robust dahlias, daffodils, lavenders, acanthus, invincible jasmines, clivias and anemones, with butterflies and bees working tirelessly. And large orange and lemon trees that enveloped everything with their perfume in spring. There was also a fenced plot where vegetables and legumes grew protected under the shade of a mulberry tree, surrounded by a bed of aromatic herbs to keep them safe from the persevering ants... I know the care and love that accompanying nature requires in its growth and also the happiness that is seeing it in all its splendor. Success with this beautiful project and congratulations from Argentina.
Your thoughts for the garden are similar to what I did with my house and property in the United States before I moved to France. Pathways through the forest leading to a surprise (bench, statue, art installation) make the property fun. Best wishes for continued success with the project. 👏👏
The parterre plan sounds beautiful, I hope there is enough sun in this space for the plants to thrive. Ivy is beautiful, but can be detrimental to trees. The river is beautiful and that church is amazing!
I love hearing all the lovely plans. But, I agree that ivy ruins other living ground-cover, shrubs and trees. So difficult to get rid of, but it has to be done - year after year. 😊
When you thin out the Forrest to let in more light, a lot of the ground covers and wildflowers will start growing again, naturally. Chateau LaLande did that and their Forrest is healing. Their Forrest provides fire wood, lumber for construction and there is now a healthy balance of young, medium and mature trees to ensure to longevity of the Forrest. Check out the movie “The Gardener” It is a beautiful documentary of the gardens at Les Quatre Vents, full of surprises, amazing vistas and drama. It’s one men’s vision. The more we get to know you through your videos, the more you seem like a Renaissance Man, full of talents, knowledge, versatile interests and vision. It’s lovely to see you vision come through and the precision with which you plan, organize and execute.
this is going to be so magical. The door to enter the forest sounds so amazing. also the cyclamen de naples on the forest floor is so magical and beautiful!! and the westeria over the door is a genius idea.
Your plans and progress sound delightful and in context with the Chateau. Thank you for including us. Although you likely have already planted the Buxus and Taxus, it's important to remember that there are many species and cultivars of both.. some are quite large and vigorous requiring more pruning. Taxus has separate male and female plants. The berries on the female are highly toxic and their red colour would not add to the serene design and palette of the Parterre. A few bulbs and plants for your consideration: Galanthus nivalis/Snowdrops, white flowers very early bloom (bulb) Naturalizes well Hyacinthoides non-scripta/white bluebells. Bulb. Naturalizes well. Galium odoratum/ small white flower early Spring/noninvasive ground cover/edible Naturalizes well Ferns..many to choose from. Three Canadian choices, Polystichum munitum, Polystichum polyblepharum..both evergreen..mass plant in forest settings and river banks. Adiatum pedatum, semi deciduous, very delicate for close-up viewing. Matteucia struthiopteris/Ostrich fern, quite large, stunning. Dicksoniana antarctica/tree fern/tropical so not winter hardy/gorgeous. Grow in a large container and protect in winter. Something to consider adding as your gardens progress. Daphnes and Gardenias. Beautiful mostly evergreen scented shrubs. One reminder for the Parterre plantings, if I may...Peonies full sun, Hydrangea macrophylla shade.. Wishing you continued success. In a chaotic world, it is reassuring knowing there are people devoted to creating beauty and order.
You can have a picnic In a enchanted forest without leaving your Maison .
Bonjour Antoni, your description of the garden sounds very lovely. I can't wait to get to part two. Thanks as always for sharing your vision with us. Love from N.Y.
Love your vision for the gardens and it is good you are starting now so that when you have finished work on the chateau you will have an established garden.
BRAVO !!🤩🤩🤩
I realy love your videos. So much details and knowledge you have about things. It honors you how much passion you have for restoring the whole place. Can't wait for your next video !!
The exteriors and grounds are just as important as the quality of the interiors of the buildings. Window dressing matters. The landscaping plans looks wonderful and a grand homage to the original chateau.
I just love your videos, especially the detail of how the garden will be landscaped. You probably know the Priory garden in the region of Berry. We just loved that garden and how the plants were selected because of there meaning. It is just wonderful to here your passion for restoration. There are too many video’s of people around the world buying Chateau’s and renovating them without researching the history.
I especially enjoy hearing your comments explaining why you are planting what you are planting in addition to the explanations of the continued restorations. I am sure all of your viewers appreciate the Olympic effort exerted in the entire restoration project.
Sir I'm truly blessed to have found this channel, you've influenced and enriched my taste in culture and heritage overall and hope to learn so much more! Wonderful work done, truly!! Merci beaucoup - Prottay (Calcutta, India)
Wonderful tour - the gardens are lovely, and will be even more beautiful when they are completed. The river is absolutely charming - I am wondering whether it flooded (not sure if you had lots of rain in your region). Interesting that ivy could be beneficial! I have those cyclamen in my lawn, and they bloom both in spring and autumn - they are a real treasure. Snow drops are nice and bloom beginning in December until the early part of March.
I know you have good garden team but you might check out Beth Chattos woodland garden book. See peony in the woods , kirengoshoma, yes cyclamen but also leucojum a lovely tall white bulb out now. Also allium nigrum which loves semi shade a tall flat white allium. Ruscus, Danea racemosa. So many without it being naff. And my friends book the medieval garden by Sylvia landsberg. A fantastic gate idea as an entrance check out Hoveton Halls spiders web gate. Love this chateau.
Thank you for sharing your process. Your description of the gardens and forest were wonderful. I can picture it. Can’t wait to see when it is finished! It will be beautiful!
Hi Antoni, are you not afraid of all the Boxwood Diseases & Insect Pests, my family have lost so many Boxwood in the last five years to this new pest Japan. It is better to take an alternative to Boxwood as it is not only soul destroying but also so expensive to have 20 - 30 year old box balls and other ornaments just eaten by box pests and then needing to remove them again. The design looks very nice and also the idea for having all year round flowers and plants. Looking forward to seeing this project !
Your plans are smart and beautiful. Is Daan going to be involved with the plant choices? Looking forward to seeing your next video. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your chateau!
You have a lovely forest, Anthoni. The river and the bridge add a romantic feel. If I may suggest, if you want to organize treks around the forest, the pit stops could be a chance for people to know what trees and other flora are there and if there are background stories at each stop, that could be a very interesting walk. Or if you want you can put up some "active spots" like a tree house, a swing or even a climbing rope for those physically able to climb. All the best!
I get so excited when I see a new video posted. For me this chateau and grounds in France is the most beautiful. Thank you for sharing your experience with us 😊❤ Deborah North Carolina USA 2:05
Your garden plans sound wonderful. I guess you are able to buy a grass that grows well in all that shaded area. Those cyclamen are gorgeous aren't they? I have seen them in other chateau grounds. Best wishes.
The Annabelle Hydrangea and Cyclamen are both very beautiful. I can't wait to see your stunning garden when it is finished. Best wishes from New Zealand. 💗
I was wondering when we would be getting another installment from you. Always leave people wanting more is a good strategy and I suspect you're probably a busy man. I'm impressed with how in depth you've researched and planned your project. Personally, I like the Taxus flanking the forest entrance. It signals a transition into the fantasy woodland ahead. Perhaps a scene evoking A Midsummer Night's Dream. I'm a bit surprised that you wish to plant the entire forest floor with ivy. Will you be able to maintain healthy trees with the forest floor covered in an invasive and parasitic monoculture like Hedera? I admit that it sounds lovely if you can get it all to grow together harmoniously. I love naturalized bulbs in the woods. I remember driving one Spring day into a wooded area outside Nevers to see les jonquils. There were hundreds of people in the woods picking them. They were as thick as dandelions and twice as cheerful. Truly unforgettable! The patch of cyclamen was spectacular. They're one of my favorites. I applaud your ambition. It will be magnificent when finished.
It is awesome....and the beauty of it is that you are working to bring it to its original state.......more and more I see places being transform into very modern contemporary styles......nothing bad about it...but I still love to keep the history and originality of these beautifull houses..........and I'm still waiting to see that amazing front gate......will it be soon?
Great job on the design of the gardens. I love the plan. Will you also add a vegetable and herb gardens to support the chateau? How do you select the plants, flowers, shrubs and type of grass for planting? You guys seem pretty knowledgeable. I really like the change with the seasons. Keep up the great work.
I really enjoy your videos. Think others have already commented on not putting tulips in your woods. Bluebells & snowdrops would look more natural & would be happier. I know they’re not bulbs but foxgloves look magical. I have a woodland garden & the pink & white cyclamen are beautiful in September. Talking of beautiful, I hope the green shorts & boots combination were especially pour moi 😉😎😆
How did this happen? I’m five days late to the party! Still enjoyed the video nonetheless and what a pleasure to have your explanation of plans for the gardens. Amazing that not only do you have a lake and a moat but what a surprise to have an attractive church at the end of the forest walk and even your own river. Any more good finds like that and you will surely be the envy of many other chateau owners! Well, except for the significant work that will be required to clean up the dead and damaged trees. As previously mentioned, bluebells and snowdrops would add the perfect touch to the natural beauty of the forest.
I found this video quite enjoyable, and inspiring. The amount of thought and planning that went into it is most impressive and I look forward to its second part. As an avid gardener, I greatly appreciate all of the manual labor that is required to effectuate the detailed plans. The end results promise to be impressive, indeed.
I say thank you as well for your videos in English. There is something so calming and reassuring in the enchanting restoration of your magical property. Your educated eye is so appreciated. Thank you for this bit of calm in my day.
Always a delight to learn what is happening with this chateau and grounds. So much thought goes into design and all factors that contribute to the completed project. Thanks very much for this lovely window into the garden plans!
It is too bad we don't get to see the restoration of the river it would be an interesting addition to the evolution of the park. Great video and I look forward to part 2. 🙂
How wonderful. I had no idea you had a river like that running through your park. It is so beautiful. This is the first time I have ever heard about ivy being good for the floor of a forest. The first thing I thought when seeing the areas next to the river was all of the picnics you can have, it looks so relaxing. The whole park is beautiful. The soft pink flowers you planted under the tree are very pretty, it is a good choice. I love how the small house has a lower ground level behind it and enough room for the beautiful garden you have started planting. You might be able to put in a jacuzzi a few feet outside of the double glass doors someday. Soaking in one in that beautiful garden would be really nice. I had been thinking about you and wondering why you had not posted a new video in a while and then received the notification this morning which made me happy. I look forward to part two. Jeff❤
Great video thanks for sharing your plans for the garden can hardly wait till they are blooming will be beautiful at the little cottage. Great plans. ❤❤❤👏👏👏👏🙏🇨🇦😍
I’m sure you are already aware that you don’t want ivy growing up onto your trees. It will kill your trees. You will know doubt have gardeners to keep it cut back off your trees in the forest. Your English is incredible. Thank you for sharing your beautiful growns
Maybe you can make a Lily lake or lake of flowers for that soul in the grave you mentioned. In ancient Egypt they have shabtys on magical bricks for protection. Once the heart was weighed the soul was rowed with others who had also been justified across Lily Lake (also known as The Lake of Flowers) to a land where one regained all which had been thought lost. There one would find one's home, just as one had left it, and any loved ones who had passed on earlier.
These plans are just delightful! What a lovely vision!
I know English is not your first language, so please understand how much I appreciate that you do these videos in English so that I can follow your wonderful project. I wish you the best of luck!
Pues el inglés lo habla muy bien 🇪🇦🇪🇦
This is how you properly renovate a chateau. L’attention aux détails sont incroyables.🇺🇸
Hello, I have been waiting for your next video and here it is! Now you are discussing your gardens and park. I am a horticulturist. I’m in Australia and the ivy we have is a weed, it is so hard to get rid of. The trees are strangled in our area. 🇦🇺❤️
You sound very knowledgeable and I'd love to see your garden, but perhaps you don't know France and what will survive/thrive there? I don't mean to cause any offence and I'm probably reaching.
I'm only saying because I love those trees and even though there's alot of shade I don't want to see them cut down 🙈
@@carlyh6913 hi, no offense taken, but I live in France. I am in Provence.
Ivy is an invasive species. It causes a lot of damage to buildings and walls.
Oh yaa, so fresh! Mmm, yesh, YESH! OH!
Oh how I wish you had more time to post videos more often - not only are they wonderfully beautiful but I learn something too.
More, more, more videos!!!!!!
I know the care and love that accompanying nature requires in its growth and also the happiness that is seeing it in all its splendor. Success with this beautiful project and congratulations from Argentina.
the drone shots show how huge of an area the park is and how lovely it will be planted and finally maintained
🥰Bluebells are beautiful in early spring and multiply nicely in a forest.

The river is beautiful and that church is amazing!
I love hearing all the lovely plans. But, I agree that ivy ruins other living ground-cover, shrubs and trees. So difficult to get rid of, but it has to be done - year after year. 😊
You are correct. NEVER deliberately plant English Ivy, as we call it in the US.
When you thin out the Forrest to let in more light, a lot of the ground covers and wildflowers will start growing again, naturally.

Dr sexy you continue to amaze me on your fantastic achievements in your restoration s. Keep it up my man!👍😎🇺🇸💋
I am glad you kept your gardener foliage mastermind to help bring the entire land into a Disneyland Paris vibe. Yes I hate nettles.
Nice wristwatch mate. I wear a Pasha Chrono. Cartier, always Good taste.!
Wow, your property is absolutely stunning! I’m excited to see it all planted!!
Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
I'm so excited to see a new video !
The Chateau looks absolutely amazing !
As a garden designer will I say it a good idear to make the garden in style off the little house . Very good plan. Also the view on the wood .Nice!!
Hey handsome prince, love your voice and accent and all of the restoration plans you have for that gorgeous place…
Such amazing imagination and foresight. I wish I had them.
That is like a fairy-land. Very beautiful.
Thank you being a thoughtful gardener and using green space wisely.
That is an nice Patek Philippe Watch you have on. Looks like its a classic. WOW.
To have a Life project like this must be amazing. Thank you for sharing! Well done
I love how the garden is going to look. I would love to explore the wood. I bet it would be fun.

Nice video. As a suggestion/desire, I think it would be nice to have some pictures or videos of the plants you are talking about.
Your plans sound enchanting
It is too bad we don't get to see the restoration of the river it would be an interesting addition to the evolution of the park. Great video and I look forward to part 2. 🙂
Your plan is exquisite - it will be magical! All you need are some garden gnomes! Just kidding!
How wonderful. I had no idea you had a river like that running
through your park. It is so beautiful. This is the first time I
have ever heard about ivy being good for the floor of a forest.
The first thing I thought when seeing the areas next to the river
was all of the picnics you can have, it looks so relaxing. The whole
park is beautiful. The soft pink flowers you planted under the tree
are very pretty, it is a good choice. I love how the small house has
a lower ground level behind it and enough room for the beautiful
garden you have started planting. You might be able to put in a
jacuzzi a few feet outside of the double glass doors someday.
Soaking in one in that beautiful garden would be really nice.
I had been thinking about you and wondering why you had not posted
a new video in a while and then received the notification this morning
which made me happy. I look forward to part two.
Jeff❤
Great video thanks for sharing your plans for the garden can hardly wait till they are blooming will be beautiful at the little cottage. Great plans. ❤❤❤👏👏👏👏🙏🇨🇦😍
Amazing!
It is beautiful now but it will be so much better after your plans come to fruition.⭐️
I like the attention to details! 🤩👍
I’m sure you are already aware that you don’t want ivy growing up onto your trees. It will kill your trees. You will know doubt have gardeners to keep it cut back off your trees in the forest.
Your English is incredible.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful growns
The vision you have for the garden and forest is amazing!❤
One day I will have my own castle too!
This was a pleasure to watch and I’m looking forward to part 2. It looks like you’re making great progress.
Waiting plans. Manifique ❤
It's looking splendid! Are the gates back up yet? I'd love to see what they look like now.
😂😂😂😂😂😂....I had the same comment....cant wait to see it
can't wait to see the little abbey garden. Thanks, Doc.
