    In my systema learnin, strikes are broken down neatly into rooted/against-gravity, falling/with-gravity, and floating center, the ability to strike from that place in between, picture Michael Jordan's hang time. Having someone push you over and striking them off the loss of balance is practice for it. Essentially, what this is, is floating center mixed with nice shifting footwork, the ability to find root very quickly and then abandon it, and intercepting punches. Very clever to build a style on it in such a way.

    Should I do this with boxing? It seems sloppy but if it is effective I can bring it into the ring.

    ive seen people try to fight this way intuitively before
    its pretty natural as a concept, but it never works for very long because no ones made it into a distinct discipline until now.
    really fantastic work Mr Norman

    The basics of my self defense systems. Get off of the threat's line of attack so he can't hit you and then attack his flanks and try to get to his back.
    Same way if you are one man or ten thousand. Same way if you have or he has a gun, knife, stick or empty hands.

    I've watched more footage on this training method through the Combat Submission Wrestling Camp video's where Phil breaks it down and after watching it I definitely want to add this to my game. From what I understand it's not about throwing a lot of big hooks and crosses it's about not getting hit and out hitting the other guy. If the other guy freezes off a shot then you can set your weight and follow up with power shots. Check out Phil's website

    lol wtf is this? Boxing that way You have absolutely no power, You are open up, chin up, just wtf. IF this dude would box with me (I'm amateur boxer) then He would get ass whooped. the basic idea of changing angles is really pure gold, but this dude got this wrong.

    • @redleaderify
      @redleaderify 10 років тому +3

      Amateur boxer here as well. I agree witth your points but I think he has reasons to do that. He has longer range (I think arms are longer for his height) so when he is sidestepping he has no danger of being hit from coach Keiser.
      You see boxers lower their guard when they are comfortable in big matches as well. I agree with you for this video though, if their range was the same no footwork can excuse this lack of total guard.

      It's always interesting to read the comments. You can always tell the more experienced and open minded guys from the newer ones. The individuals from the instructors. Just because something won't work for you doesn't mean it won't for someone else, and just because something will work for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you. Damage Control MMA has always been about having an open mind and sharing with others. The same closed mindedness that says only one way is the right way is what perpetuated the myth that was dispelled once and for all with the advent of Mixed Martial Arts and mass media.

      Adam Nieważne power comes from certain shots, however it is the shots you don't see coming, plus you don't get to see the power shots. This is an evoling style that is constantly improving with the guys who test it in the ring / cage. On you giving them a whopping, seek them out & see how you stand up against them. Any areas you can expose will only help Phil evolve it further.

    • @philnorman3120
      @philnorman3120 9 років тому +2

      Hey Adam I hear this a lot, so I don't take offence, i'm not brand new, been around along time. Because I have created this for sport fighting, it can be proven and tested unlike street fighting where the consequences mean jail! regarding amateur boxing I have been working with Jake Clarke over here who has just been removed from the championships because his opponents coaches complained that he was too experienced/good. He had reached the semi's and had hardly been hit despite competing with boxers who had had more boxing experience. I am open to ways of improving as it is the only way to stay on top and it does get reviewed after every fight, hope we can catch up so you can help me take it further.

      Brian Yamasaki System seems like something I'd want to do because it's unorthodox, and a lot of people won't have the open mind for it =0) . Question: How do you guys feel about Bobbing and Weaving and Slipping to the inside of the opponent's guard/centerline?
      I feel that it can be useful , but I also do not disregard the danger's of getting hit with a knee, elbow, or front kick.
