The technical explanation of the schematic was awesome! I def learned something. Back when I was an apprentice in electrical school we did a quarter of electronics and I just didn’t see any practical application of it. Fast forward 10 years and I’m into guitars, amps, and pedals and wish I would have paid a little more attention.

You make it sound great. I never end up satisfied with software amps in the end and I have spent way too much money on them in the past. I save for the real deal now as Im trying to learn my lesson with software.

To my ear and bare in mind this is on UA-cam, but they have nailed the bottom end on this plug in. That’s what most people get wrong on plexi models in my opinion.

  • @vondragonnoggin
    @vondragonnoggin 3 роки тому +3

One thing the Plexi does is unbelievable dynamics in going from somewhat clean with very light picking or guitar volume backed off to a roaring gain with harder pick attack. How was the plug-in when you pick very softly to hard pick attack? Does it respond to dynamic picking like the real deal? Also on the low bass side input, it’s possible to get a very clean side with some treble on the real amp because of channel bleed, so if you were to turn up the high volume of the high input while plugged into low input bass, the treble would bleed through and brighten the sound. Did they recreate that part too? Just curious how close they got to some of the quirks of an SL. It sounds great while you are playing and has that airy bite like a Plexi. I always think of a chainsaw chomping air when I hear a Plexi. It’s probably my favorite Marshall sound with a lot of early metal and old school rock and roll too. Jimmy Page Madison Square Garden tones are great where he swapped out the EL34’s with KT88’s is my favorite Zeppelin tones. Early Iron Maiden Dave Murray sound or early Mercyful Fate Michael Denner tones too. Plexi can produce such a wide variety of sounds. I love the modded Plexi circuit in the Bogner’s, Friedman’s, Ceriatone’s too. It just does so much early metal and rock sounds with a regular six string and normal tuning which is what I play all the time. Great video!

      Indeed!
It’s really close to a real amp and behaves like a real one 👌. Obviously real amp is a real amp but man this is close.

@@EugeValovirta230V I bet one could hypothetically have this plugin loaded on say...
an old 2012 intel quad i7 Mac mini maxed out with 16gb ram & SSD, use a Midicommander footswitch, and then push air using an Orange Pedal Baby power amp and cab? Poor man's Fractal?! Haha!
I've been doing something like that with an Orange Omec, Katana 50, Midicommander, and Biasfx, but Softube sounds waaaay better!

Jake; my song writing partner in Cyhra uses one and he suggested me to try it out to make things easier for us and I’m glad I tried ’cos I love it. It’s the most logical and easy to use DAW I’ve ever used (well I’ve used mainly ProTools & Logic previously but anyways 😊). And Jake got me an artist deal with Steinberg so that’s really cool also and they’ve been super helpful & supportive 👌.

I don’t have those but have tried them and if I my memory serves me well these Softube Marshall plugins are the most realistic and closest to real amps (which I have several 😊) as they probably should be since they are made in co-operation with Marshall and are the only official ones 😎👌.

Hi Euge, I have been watching your "softube series" and to be honest, you sort of sold the plugins to me. The videos are great! But one thing keeps ringing here... I saw your video on amp room and it seems to be pretty huge and therefore way too heavy in terms of cpu power consumption... Is it the case? Cheers and be safe!

It’s the ”vintage” sound 😎. There are as many different Plexi sounds as there are Plexis and players. Old Marshalls can sound completely different to one another but I think this does what Plexis does in general really well 👌😎.

The Marshall Model 1959 is an awesome amp. I don't mean "awesome" like, "Oh, Paris, that cute little Teacup Chihuahua in your handbag is awesome!" or, "Hey, those day-glo laces on your Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars are totally awesome, bruh!" I mean like tidal waves, hurricanes, erupting volcanoes and planetary asteroid strikes are awesome. They are almost horrifyingly loud, mostly because their circuit is so simple and efficient, I suspect.
And calling them "100 watts" is a joke. That "100 watts" rating is only up until total harmonic distortion gets up to something like 3%, and they go quite a ways past that. Wimpy, limp-wristed ones generate more like 140 watts cranked up, and strong ones are putting out as much as 170 watts. Hang around any that are turned up without wearing your hearing protection and your ears _will_ ring for the rest of your life.
But they make "that" sound and they take most pedals really well.
And playing one really loud will make you a better guitarist because at that kind of volume, there is no hiding your mistakes and deficiencies, even from yourself. You (and everyone else for miles around) will know _exactly_ what guitar skills you need to work to improve. It's a real wake-up call.
This is a good review of this plug-in and a good intro to Plexi's and how they work/how to use them. Way to go, dude.

Yes I agree completely. Everyone should experience at least once how it feels playing in front of a cranked plexi 💪🔥. I mean there’s nothing louder in the world except maybe a jet airplane 😎. Rawk n roll!
