I love seeing early footage of bands, especially before they go onto become famous. I especially love bauhaus. This is an extremely rare gem to see. I'm so glad this was preserved and uploaded so all bauhaus fans can enjoy this. I definitely would have been excited being in attendance for this had I ever received the chance to see these guys. I'm impressed with the footage no matter how primitive it seems nowadays. It's rock n' roll history in the making. It's fantastic, raw, pure. I love it. 🙂🥰👍
My god man. . . . This is amazing........To see them still feeling out their space on stage at such a young age is priceless...... I'd like to note that even at the start of it all, Peter's voice was already fucking god like.... he just always had that perfect tone.....in my opinion better than even David Bowie himself.
This is fantastic!!!! From 1919 to 1979 to 2019. I think there's a message here, and that message is that Bauhaus should get back together and tour this year. All the planets are in alignment.
Thank you so much. Saw them live only in `98, having been addicted to them virtually all my life before that, and it was probably the best thing I ever heard and saw.
The equipment and lighting used for this gig is actually spot on. The gloom suits them perfectly and I love the ghostly afterimages of the band as they move around. It makes them look like otherworldly specters. Music for dead lovers. 🖤
wow that is truly magical footage of a legendary group. i love how u had the priceless opportunity to record such material. thank u for sharing it with us for all to see
Easy $100 bootleg in 1986 Brisbane, Australia. Priceless footage of a seminal band. This reminds me of the Bob Gruen's live clips of the New York Dolls from "All Dolled Up". Hats off to you sir..
@@damianb2374Band being a unique act and on the cusp of greatness being filmed by someone who had video recording equipment filmed in black and white..
Thanks so much for being there, shooting this, holding on to it, and posting it... and especially for including the personal touch of your recollections from the evening. Can't wait to see more from you!
Serendipity's a wonderful thing.... Having first seen your video nearly a year ago, I'm now reading Andrew Brooksbank's "from arthaus to bauhaus" (great Xmas present from wifey) & just read about your early involvement with the band. Shortly after, I fire up YT & it's back in my recommendations as if google can read my brain........ Having most recently worked on Barrack Rd in this seedy town, so close to all the venues, pubs, bedsits & flats frequented by various members of bauhaus, I can't help but think had I arrived in Northampton in 77 & not 87, I'd have been on the fringes of this amazing group of talented individuals. Oh well, I can always visit Adams Avenue to see if there's a blue plaque there. And to think I used to live around the corner in Abington.........
So interesting seeing the formative early Bauhaus, one of my fave bands. Please post more, preferably the complete gig, if you have it. Thanks for this footage.
Hi, just wanted to say thanks for all of your loans to the exhibition at Northampton Museum. Really helps bring that era, and particularly how it was in Northampton at the time, to life.
Wow, this is the doors meating joy division. Clearly a group trying to find it's own sound. very nice footage. Always interesting to see where bands started. And this band off course needs no introduction. Great stuff.
Metallica have been going since early 80s and do 2+ strenuous hours each night on stage and average 100s of shows a year... how does James sing then by your logic?
Hi Graham, I'm wondering if you've got any more video transferred? Now, while we're all stuck at home, would be a great time to upload it. You've got a captive audience!! We'd all love to see more of our favorite band. Well, thanks for posting this one and thanks for the Tones clips that Glenn uploaded. Hope you are well!
I can see how these guys would stand out from a lot of bands - tight, expressive, hardly a major chord passing, angst-ridden artiness. Something in their sound that's going for the gut, yet not so heavy and bluesy like Black Sabbath nor spastic and fun-frenzied like the Pistols. It's like stripped-down angst-ridden art rock.
Super summary! You should be a professional previewer! Even though you haven't got any videos on your site, maybe you could put together a 'favourites' playlist with your personal analysis of each video? coz, hmht
Are you Graham Bentley by any chance? If so, thanks for the Magazine/Bauhaus gig at the town hall - a great one off in those days. As regards Bauhaus, where's the candelabra? Murphy was clearly yet to harness his inner Goth, lol. Was part of the Northampton punk and post-punk scene, played the tunes at a handful of gigs organised at the Racecourse Pavillion and DJd @ The Nags Head, Wollaston on Sundays. Back in those days, we were a little bit dismissive of Bauhaus's visual pretensions and normally greeted Murphy with cries of "Iggy, Iggy, you're not from Transylvania, your from Weston Favell." Guess they had the last laugh. If only the rest of their musical output was as good as Bela Lugosi's Dead.... Loved in America and by Children of the Corn everywhere though.
Can u put the whole Bauhaus thing out somewhere? True fans can see how rare this is: we don't expect it for free. But either released behind a paywall...or worked into a longer documentary if you have outtakes and background stuff...either way...we want more!
Oh PLEASE show us more!! You're sitting on some priceless material!

They are, but unfortunately only in LA.
@@christopher-yw5lh 2 years later and they've done a few more shows together! 😁

Wow. So "Lagartija Nick" was written as early as that, and originally called "Bite My Hip"? This I did not know!
yeah, it's available on the Bela Sessions
Impressive, historical document, thank you very much for uploading it.
A magical time capsule. Thanks for the share.
I sure hope the other 25:06 of footage is preserved.
Oh brother! From 1:19 till 2:35...
The very early version of Lagartija Nick!
What a rare jewel! Thank you for sharing..
Yep, Bite My Hip, it's from the Bela Sessions
Primitive and priceless. Thanks for sharing.

art is forever but times ahead makes so much bullshit we have to go back a bit to find anyhting but crap so id say bit back to future nowdays
I saw them at Valentinos in Edinburgh, 17th August 1980 and they were absolutely superb. The martial arts lesson must have came in useful.
yes he was a 'HANDY' Guy.....
oh man you have to release this in it's entirety to buy !! thanks for filming and posting.
wow that is truly magical footage of a legendary group. i love how u had the priceless opportunity to record such material. thank u for sharing it with us for all to see
Jesus, this should be in a museum.
Amen, man.
the camera's weird effects makes it seem almost as if they are a band of ghosts, that's pretty cool
Excellent, thank you! Would LOVE to see the full set or the full versions of these songs, at the very least.
Bite my Hip became a 1982 Bauhaus single . Lagartija Nick.
Thank you , this is best thing I've seen on yt in a long time.
Muito epco👀👂👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏

Thank you thank you!! And yes, please post more from this performance for the world to enjoy!
I haven't watched mainstream TV since 2018 and prior I had that Tel Lie Vision on too much, Thankfully I woke up, Praise God Almighty 🙏
I have been in The Romany a few times before, but first time was in 1984 the year I turned 18. Bauhaus were playing much bigger venues by then!
Thanks for sharing this gem!!!!!
Holy Shit. Just...wow.
More please.
Thank you for finally posting some of what you filmed. You have a lot more, right? Would love to see more.....
Hi, just wanted to say thanks for all of your loans to the exhibition at Northampton Museum. Really helps bring that era, and particularly how it was in Northampton at the time, to life.
FANTASTIC Thank You
Thanks for this. Had spent a lot of time looking for some early Bauhaus material
Just awesome
Thank you so much for sharing!
Merci ❤️❤️❤️
You did the right thing. I finally heard of these guys in 1984.
So rare! Thank you for posting this very early footage
Brilliant. Thanks for that . I would of been 12 when this was made . I got to see them twice when I was 16😊.
incredible!!!!!! incroyable document....

What a band!!!!
How has Pete's voice remained intact all this time? I saw them at the Ally Pally just a few weeks ago, and it's almost exactly the same as it is here!
Metallica have been going since early 80s and do 2+ strenuous hours each night on stage and average 100s of shows a year... how does James sing then by your logic?
@@damianb2374 But he lost his classic voice in the early 90s. He was only able to retain it for less than 10 years and now his voice is passable.
Thanks!!!
They never get the recognition they deserve, and the work they put in to get goth going on the right trajectory.
This is fantastic ! I love Bauhaus !
history! thanks for uploading that gem.
Ohhhhh...ThankYoU for this gem..🖤🦇🖤🎩

Lagartija Nick one of my faves
Such historical images!
This is awesome!! But it was obviously edited, so there has to be more footage. Or at least the songs in their entirety. Please share.
Cool to see the band in their infancy. What did they think about the footage, btw?

Graham!!! 🐝
Fascinating that early Bauhaus was doing cowpunk.

Wow wow wow!!!
An early Version of Lagartija Nick
💜🔥
Does the camera has some sort of problem with the light? However give a cool sensation
thx for this nice one, is possible to get full movie? Bauhaus is my favorite band so i would appreciate and would be awfully happy to see all content.
Love Bauhaus,! I guess the band saw this after it was recorded, have they seen it down the years?
Cool!!!
I was 9 🥰
