I just moved to a new apartment in NYC *by myself*... It's been wild.

Your video came up in my timeline so I gave it a quick look see. I can’t believe I just watched all the way through your 3-4 minute long commercial for bedsheets (just as I was about to leave your channel as a first time viewer) BUT your commercial was so well presented, it got me ‘hooked’ into staying tuned. I had never heard of #Brooklinen before, but I can say as a former marketing exec that they are lucky to have you presenting their products. Then after the sponsor ad I kept wanting to leave to watch something else but your good editing and creativity kept me watching to the end. 🌟 God bless you in the ways you need it most and keep up the good content creation!

I am a 74 year old widow and during COVID I sold a house, built a house and moved myself and 2300 square feet of my stuff to the country. The only thing that kept me sane were my LISTS! I prioritized, organized and gave myself a lot of grace. My daily motivation was crossing completed chores off my lists. You don’t have to eat the elephant in one bite 🐘. Small steady bites will get the job done. You are so real and I just love your channel.

Tips for stressed mood? Depends on the type of stressed. But personally when I'm stressed on the level when not even yoga, music or meditation helps I tell myself 'a week from now you'll be fine' or 'around this time tomorrow you'll be fine' ... hope that helps❤
And thank you for your videos, currently you are my anti stress thing haha (going through job change, moving appartement and 3 abroad ttravels within one month lol) sending lots of strenght❤

My tip is to set up one room first, make it really cozy without the unpacked bags and everything.
The hardest part in moving for me was the phase when everything was a mess and unpacked, that stressed me out beyond measure XD

@@grunzoink This is great advice, if you have one clear and cosy room it really will help. Also why dont you take a weeks break from youtube? we will all still be here when you come back x

I agree that it’s best to focus first on one room/area and make it as cozy & comfortable as you can. That way you’ll have one space to retreat to. Then focus one zone at a time in a mindful way (there’s no need to rush - you have that one cozy space waiting for you).
I moved into my place almost five years ago after a year of traveling - and I had purged so much of what I owned. I had to start over again, but for the first 3 years I just moved from my bed to my desk (because I started with nothing and then Covid hit a year in). Having those two spaces helped me survive!

Chelsea, do you have any clean freaks as friends? Maybe worth scheduling a get together/help me organise day, can be soooo much fun! Productive sesh, followed by a nice at home meal. I've done this with friends before and it's honestly so helpful. But they gotta enjoy organising/cleaning, naturally hahah I love it, so I always help my friends out hahahah 😅 x

Moving is a full time job in itself, setting everything up, mental gymnastics of where to put everything and then remembering where it has been put, adapting to a new commute, … and you are doing that in addition to your 9-6, vlogging/editing and training for a marathon. Inspo right there!

As somebody who is quite a bit older than you, I offer this wee bit of advice: Just take things as they come and don't make a bigger deal out of relatively small things. As the saying goes, "This too shall pass." It will...and you probably won't even remember what you were so worried about. Focus on being grateful for the wonderful things you have and let the rest of it simply wash over you.😊

Well, since everyone is offering you unpacking advice, I'll throw my two unsolicited cents in :) The last time I moved (two young children, a dog, worked full time and a week before Christmas with guests coming for the holidays!), I just moved all the boxes into one room (you have the perfect extra room for it), got my furniture situated, then unpacked one box at a time, and put everything from that box away. I might only do one box a day (my minimum) or I might get 5 or 6 boxes done. If for some reason I didn't want to unpack a particular box (a box of summer clothes in December, for example), I wrote the contents and the date on the box and moved it to the back. Each box was either unpacked or labeled. Every box I unpacked and put away or labeled and stored made me feel better and like I had a handle on it instead of feeling so overwhelmed and guilty. When the company arrived, I just shut the door of the storage room and allowed myself to forget it was there for the week they visited. Of course, just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for you, but I have a feeling just seeing all the boxes and chaos is making you feel overwhelmed and helpless, as it did me. You're letting the chaos be in charge of you, where you need to be in control of the chaos. PS I not only own Brooklinen sheets, but bought sets for my (adult) kids for Christmas. Everybody loves them!

If I didn’t live in England I’d pop round and give you a hand with unpacking. I don’t think you realise how well you’re doing Chelsea, you go out to work, you run for endless miles AND you film and edit a youtube channel, you’re awesome! Just gradually get your main room straight when you get the chance and then at least you’ll have a calm space to sit down in. Well done for everything 👏🏻💛🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling so stressed at the minute Chelsea! My absolute favourite tip for getting things done when you’re feeling overwhelmed is to set a timer for as little as 10 minutes (or however long you think you have) and just go like crazy for that time. You’d be surprised by how much you can actually achieve and how much better you feel afterwards. I really hope you can get everything sorted soon and start feeling better. Your new apartment looks lovely and you deserve to be able to enjoy it!

You might want to rethink / research plugging a fridge into a power strip. I've always been told that large appliances need to be plugged directly into a wall outlet for safety reasons. I do feel your struggle though - my apartment has NO outlet in the bathroom. The landlord's contractor removed it when the apartment was renovated. Who does that?! LOL

I'm on humira and getting it delivered to a pharmacy was a game changer because they knew how to store the medication and had really good hours for pickup. I don't have to wait at home every month for my hella expensive refrigerated medication to be hazardly dropped at the entrance of my building because they didn't bother to call me when they got here.

Take it easy on yourself - don't worry about having a "clean" apartment - you just moved in, you work full-time, you are training for a marathon, you're a UA-camr...come on! You've got a lot going on, don't be hard on yourself and try to enjoy the journey, and the new place! By the way, you are doing GREAT!

Look let me help wars have actually started with that phrase . The aireator is the little bump out that’s a the end of your faucet stem. It should unscrew with a pair of pliers, use a cloth so don’t scratch it. Then use the male end of your adapter plug. It should screw right in . Then put your hose on the new adaptor plug that you just screwed in . Good luck I Always hated hated, hated moving.😵‍💫

Hi Chelsea, I had an idea for setting up your apartment. Please forgive me if I’m overstepping. One of the bedrooms could be made into your living room and the room off the kitchen could be your office and small dining area. Maybe this is your idea as well. The apartment is gorgeous, by the way. Don’t feel rushed to get it together, when you have time and are relaxed. You work hard and deserve all good things that come your way. So happy for you ! 😊

But, I wanted to say that I’ve always had a connection to the city even though I’ve never been (if that makes sense) and I love how you share what’s it’s actually like for many people. I'm only a 14-year-old girl so I have many many years before I would consider moving there since I definitely have bigger goals I want to pursue first (I.e. go to med school and become a doctor) but I would at least like to visit someday. I definitely feel more comfortable if I do, one day, live in the city now because I know a bit of what to expect. Much love & congrats on the move 💗

It's always easier to help someone else because you're not emotionally invested in whatever and that helps you see how something needs to be done, but when you have to do something on your own it becomes a challenge to your own competence. I lost it over hiring a plumber, something that people do a million times a day. There are 7 billion plus people on Earth. One million people totally call plumbers each day. Hi Chelsea, love your videos! BTW the aerator is on the faucet. I can see it, remove it with a cloth and wrench then that piece will have threads to screw on. That might be the PITA way though, since you have to put it back every time. Also, you could use command strips to stick that extension cord thing to the side of the refrigerator so you can see it and use it easily. 😀 Excuse my ramblings, you probably found all the solutions already, LOL.

I've heard great things about Brooklinen! Need/ want new sheets so bad, but for now can only afford to wash the ones I have.😅 Putting on fresh sheets just makes you feel like you are at a hotel. You will get there! Moving is hard, there is so much 💩 to figure out! Your doing all of this by yourself, you are so brave!! Working full-time, living by yourself, cooking yourself meals & trying to have a life outside of work is hard, & then you add in unpacking. My advice. Focus on 1 thing a day/ night. If you have friends/ family visiting have them help you hang stuff it's so much easier tackling these tasks with someone else, it makes it less overwhelming. I love when you said: " I'm at the point where I can't trust a burp or fart"😂 made my day. How I got motivated at my last place was I got depressed coming home seeing all my stuff in boxes so I finally decided to do something about it. Sometimes u aren't in the mood. This has to be my least fav part about moving: the packing, the organizing & unpacking....its a lot! So did you order the Brooklinen sheets or are they sponsoring you to promote their products? Either way how cool!

Even in your dark exhausted moments, I'm impressed that you have a strength to take care of yourself and be there for yourself, as best you can. Not all of us do... so you're a good example. I also empathize with having to do all the handy-person tasks yourself. I"m post-divorce and have been learning to fix and figure out how to do more things on my own. We can do it!

Loving your real life vlogs, Chelsea, sooo relatable. My tip would be to move eveything not unpacked into the spare room and set up your living space so you have a cosy refuge and clear your kitchen so you can nourish your body through it all. You can then unpack bit by bit and shut the door on the chaotic room 😄 I use essential oils in a diffuser to calm my space..head and surroundings...you can get anxiety and stress blends that smell amazing. A friend of mine from Milwaukee moved to NYC for grad school in her 20s and described the process to me. It sounded like a lot of stressful hoops to jump through, but she's been there ever since. I enjoyed city life (Milwaukee) immensely, but there are downsides. She's also a runner and has done some of the NYRR races, I just picked it up in 2020 after getting a desk job and needing to put more effort into getting off my lazy ass. She's done the whole 9+1 thing for the NYC Marathon and has been doing it a lot longer, I did my first 5K races last year, doing my first 10K race in June, with the hopes that I can keep building up mileage to do my first half in September. I'm slow, which I care more about distance than pace anyway, but those long runs can take up time, so for me juggling full time work, part time grad school, training, and everything else can be a challenge. The good thing is that exercise is good for stress/anxiety, so there's that. Oh, and I've been in my 30s and single and struggled learning plumbing (kitchen faucet & garbage disposal replacement). I know why plumbers charge so much now. Best of luck in the new place!

For your washing machine - I have the same one. Take your filter/aerator off the faucet, add a thick washer inside of the female portion of the attachment, and screw it into the sink; go to a hardware store and pick up a aerator/filter replacement kit and it should have all the washer sizes and thickness you might need. There’s tons of UA-cam videos to help as well. You can do this! I’m in my early thirties living alone and I was as frustrated as you the first time I tried to attach it to my sink, I could have made the exact same video 😅😂

Correction! Insert the washer into the male portion of the adapter. It’s helpful to think of the faucet as the female part and the adapter as the male part - helps attaching everything make more sense. “Attach portable washer to sink” is a good search term. Good luck!

Oh girl. You gotta wash the sheets before you put them on for the first time. They’ve got factory chemicals and possibly sizing in them to keep their crisp shape in the packaging. And I recommend treating yourself to dry clean the coffee out of your duvet. Enjoying your channel tho 😊

You can use a bucket to fill the washer instead of having it get water from the hose 😅

Moving when you are single and working full time is hard work. I’ve done it many times and I’m completely exhausted by the time the movers arrive. That doesn’t include the unpacking. It just has to wait. I wasn’t training for a marathon either. I understand the exhaustion and stress. It will get better! 🤗

I don’t know if you’ve already figured it out but your sink faucet should have a little screwed on attachment on the end of it
It’s used to catch debris that accumulate in pipes
If you unscrew directly from the faucet you’ll be able to screw one of those attachments in
    I hope that helps!!!

Chelsea, my advice - unsolicited - is to really really try to take the pressure off to be unpacked, settled in, etc. I might live like a caveman and just focus on your marathon training and then unpack after the race, as crazy as it sounds to others. We cant do it all at once!!! I also am going through the RINGER with washer/ driers I just purchased....you aren't alone!!!

If you ever do a live clean or unpack with me video I will be there! If you get a cleaning service to do regular cleaning while you unpack-or have them actually unpack boxes for you-could be helpful, I’ve done that. If you’re up for it after the marathon and the apartment still isn’t unpacked how you like maybe dedicate a weekend to it, I say this as someone who’s belongings got disorganized and sort of hoard like after multiple moves and infestations in NYC. I could’ve gotten it under better control. You deserve the enjoyment of your space! And great job juggling it all

Did you work out the washing machine? Normally you attach it to the tap and it stays like that. The silver thing you showed us is a clamp and you put it around where the tap joins with the other thing and you make the clamp tighter. That stops any leaks… but if you need to take it on and off the tap that is a bummer. I wish I was there as I know I am not explaining it well. Is there anyone in NYC who can help this lovely lady?

In my experience with portable washers and dishwashers, you just have to hold the hose to the faucet as long as you’re running it… It’s annoying, but otherwise, I always end up with water spilling everywhere

Personally, I found the training for the marathon MUCH more difficult than the marathon itself. Exactly what you were saying. Balancing having a life and the nutrition and sleep and fueling myself properly was SO difficult. You arent alone and everyone training for NYC is balancing that right now so when you get to the start and finish line, it feels that much sweeter knowing what everyone around you went through.
Also gels making you sick, try an eggo or a clif bar. Just something a little solid to mix with the gel.

I love your videos because they are so realistic! :D The chaos, never having time and just making the best of it etc. Before watching your video I clicked on some random influencers/youtubers morning routine where they basically did the self care tasks the whole day with no actual work or rushing and it felt so surreal and impossible for me, like who actually has time to do that?! :D I just love to see someone else try to pull it together as best as they can. Keep rocking!

Definitely try out a few different gels. I used to take GU and didn't love it. SiS is a thinner gel that doesn't coat your mouth as much as GU does. I know for the NYC half they were handing out SiS, not sure if the marathon has switched as well.
