I don't see a reason why we should limit ourselves with awards for just animations, I can't see a reason not to have a full on award show for multiple aspects of TF2. It could be stuff like workshop submissions (maps, cosmetics, warpaints, etc.), physical content people make (like cosplays or figures), or even just SFM posters. Some of the issues you pointed out still remain, but I think that the community should either go all in, or wait until it's able to.

i mean, none of your points would actually make a community saxxy a 'bad idea' as you said. your problems only mean that a community saxxy would be smaller than official ones. there are plenty of creators who make SFMs for no reward - not to say that we wouldn't need a reward, but that it's not a problem if our reward is smaller. also, i don't think us not being valve is a problem - big SFM animators like cen0 (who won the 2021 community saxxy with 1.2 million views) and winglet get more viewers than the game has players. all valve says nowadays (tf2 wise) is blog posts and patch updates - youtube is by far bigger for tf2's publicity/image than valve at this time. for example, how it feels to play spy by LazyPurple has more views than Meet The Heavy (the 6th highest viewed meet the team vid). despite this, i think you are right that a community saxxy wouldn't get as much publicity as the official ones, but thats OK. they can be smaller, that's not a problem as long as it's fun.
I think a community held Saxxys could very well work. But there would have to be some very clever solutions to these problems I mentioned. I’d be fully willing to support any future community attempts though
Having participated in both the official Saxxy Awards and the community made one, I can say that both were some of the most fun I've ever had as an animator. Just the sheer thrill of preparing and planning the best video you're able to do and then seeing others do the same. Everyone gathering together to watch amazing stories and shows of technical skill is the time when this community is bonded together the best way imo. While of course the community awards didn't get nearly as many people participating in it as the officials did, it was still something and definitely better than nothing. Man I wish Valve would restart the official awards or at least aid the community in anyway ;_; Thanks for featuring a clip from my entry btw!
Theoretically, there could be a solution to all 3 issue's, but it's a long shot. The janitor, eric smith. He's an official valve employee, it's POSSIBLE, not garanteed, _POSSIBLE,_ that he could provide a saxxy for us to use, and since he's a valve employee, it'll be official valve support. As for publicity, the prize pool could be would be covered by eric's saxxy, and for actual promotion, we could have some of the big faces such as thewhatshow, uncle dane, maybe even soundsmith, and if possible, lazy purple. But, like I said, this is a _VERY_ long shot, and is VERY unlikely. Just a thought.
Hmm, comp events with their own medals just email Eric ids if the winners and participants, so players get em in the end, sooo...Why not do same way, there are sfm community that hosted community one and previous saxxy winners participated in it, that could be starting point perhaps
@@zoulcar9403Certain Competitive events had exclusive medal awards for the winners/participants, and that was handled by the Steam IDs of the winning/participating players being emailed to Valve. It stands to reason that the same could be done with Saxxys (Hope this helps

I've never seen saxxy event... I did watch many TF2 animations and it is sad that TF2 animations died in majority, there are not as many great animations there anymore like there we're used to be made. Also I think if somehow the community saxxy awards would get a lot of attention, the legacy would've been built up, maybe other youtubers like even shork would put them into the spotlight, maybe then valve would "commit 5 minutes" into our community saxxy and would decide to just reward the people involved, aka give these very precious rewards, and also possibly even valve would make posts about saxxy again by giving little support like it does with the tournaments I guess. But nontheless it is a good idea to begin with contacting the "old crew" of the saxxy hosters, and with time we'll see how it'll end up to be.
Could have the participants require a minor price to enter, a small amount of course to enter the competition. With the prize pool being.... The TOTAL amount collected. Or do what was done with Memes Vs Machines, replacing the Saxxies with special Badges *Maybe a golden SaxtonHale Head infront of the TF2 symbol*. Where the winner gets it added to their steam account.
@@Blue_Lambda saying it's "a 17 year old shooter game" does nothing to put it down in any way it only shows the high value of the game to stay popular for 17 years despite problems it's faced and that they clearly should be doing more with it
I think we should have saxxys just to be able to celebrate community projects and give them more light, sure it's nice to have an incentive to make animations like prizes, but there's plenty of great TF2 animation channels that still make SFM videos purely for the fun of it. Think of the saxxys as a community event, not a contest.
About Price Pool: As an SFM user I can say that; people focus on the sentimental value of Saxxy, when you love TF2 and have a chance to win a unique TF2 prize, this contest seems exciting. Many TF2 UA-camrs are well connected, if everyone gets together, case opening websites would want to advertise themselves anyway. Besides, I don't think the monetary prizes need to be something as expensive as "gold pans" to attract people's attention. Also, holding the contest every two years instead of every year would increase the value of the contest and the ease of finding sponsors.
#2 Hosts & Publicity: A SafeSaxxy movement could be started like SafeTF2, people would want to come together to make these contests come back. For example: recently The Winglet, cen0 and wolfalberto announced animations at the same time and people are very excited. TF2 UA-camrs will come together. #3 We're not Valve: The community has always been what made Valve what it is. Community can't quite replicate the feel of Valve, but it can definitely replace it.
I don’t think a community full of content creators who rush to google docs to start furiously typing up a script about why a certain weapon/class/mechanic should be removed every time they get dominated and taunted by a rando in casual should be allowed to host something as big as saxxy awards anyways. I feel like there’s a level of maturity (which the community definitely lacks) required to run something like that successfully.
Golden pans could be a substitute due to the fact it is the only item besides the saxxy that turns enemies into gold when killed which would make it valuable
Not sure what happened to my previous reply I'll summarise what happened • The organizing of the event was really difficult • There is no team that is working on SFM, so talking to the 'right' person is near impossible • An attempt to get Valve involved was made, but they weren't interested Folks in the SFM community are keen for another community Saxxy, it just needs lots of interest to get Valve's attention
Is it really that bad? I bet you could drum up some ok items for a reward, if you can get someone big in the community to host you can have them gift it for exclusivity. Like a fairly basic item, named and gifted by uncle dane himself or something, would still be a cool thing people would like to own.
2 suggestings on prizes, team captain has the most copies in the "expensive" price, 17 or so. The second version is a spellbound antlers, cause alot of furries (sorry, pedophiles) want it and theyre already fithly rich. These are an iconic item and an expensive item
It's worthwhile to enumerate the problems, so, good vid, but I don't feel that any of these are particularly insurmountable. It all depends on the various levels of interest, namely from viewers, SFM creators, show-producers, and valve. And having the game be playable again changes a lot of this compared to recent previous years.
