PLOT: Volcanologist Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan) and Mayor Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton), finally convince the unbelieving populace that the big one is about to hit and that they need to evacuate immediately, only to discover her two children have gone up the mountain to get their grandmother. With Earth's clock racing against them, they must rescue the kids and grandma before the volcano explodes in a fury of flame and ash a million times more powerful than an atomic bomb.

Granted this comment from was from a year ago, but I will agree that this scene is truly a masterpiece. Let's consider where Harry's colleagues are standing when Dante's Peak bellows its final trumpet. A huge mushroom-like blast constantly stretching farther into the sky making the distance between the mountain and them seem like a few miles. Not to mention watching the pyroclastic flow that devastated the town mere moments before and finally the chilling music that cuts right to the bone as if you were there witnessing such awesome power unleashed from God's own creation. This scene should humble anyone who sees God's power at work.

They actually didn't. You can see the steel wheel when they're driving away from the USGS station.
