You should try a bioactive setup. It promotes natural behavior in reptiles and is great to look at. Check out the bio dude on UA-cam and his website for inspiration and supplies.
Awesome that you are getting a chameleon!!! I'm exited! The only thing u need is a screen cage because of their sensitive respiratory system. Love the vids! Keep it up!
I’ve had several chameleons and currently have two. I am by no means an expert however I do know a few things. Chams need a ton of fresh air so a screened enclosure is much more suitable. Also the fake plants are nice to look at however the chameleons will try and eat them so live are much healthier for them and helps with the humidity . The substrate on the bottom is a bacteria trap , once again nice to look at but not great for your little guy. Chams do not generally go to the bottom so nothing is fine and easy to clean up the waste. Good luck with this cutie, it’s a learning experience constantly with these animals.
I have a chameleon and would like to give you some tips. For the substrate you should put gravel before the soil for the water to drain. If you don’t do so the tank will be smelly after a few days. First you put the terrarium draining substrate at the bottom of the tank, they sell it on pet stores, put a mesh on top and then add the soil. The mesh in between is so the soil doesn’t mix with the gravel. And also it’s cool to have a fog machine, but it doesn’t leave droplets big enough for the chameleon to drink out of it. An automatic misting machine is very effective and it’ll save you time. Chameleons need to be misted about three times a day and the misting machine never forgets when to mist unlike us sometimes. Oh and natural plants are better for the animal, but do your research first because some plants could be toxic for chameleons.
ALWAYS do your research before getting a new animal. you can’t know how to keep it healthy just going off what the pet store employee says. yes lease go get yourself a hobby that just doesn’t involve living creatures at all.
You can use suction cups with hooks to keep the vines up higher. Try the craft area at Walmart. If you are using a screen cage, try a needle & dark button thread to tie the vines up higher in the cage. Then a heat gun to measure how warm it is in his basking area. Harbor Freight Tools is probably the cheapest place to find one. You can make him a hide with a small round piece of cork. Hot glue it to one of the middle vines and check the temp with the heat gun. Just some FYI. Hope everything goes well!! Take care!
Couple things, Don't be in a rush to get a female, Chameleons don't really like to be housed together. only put them together if you build a big cage, like a region of 6ftL X 4ftD X 6ftH etc but still not really advised. So when you get a female get both Chameleons there own housing, and only put together for breeding. Chameleons do best in full mesh screen cages, they like full air flow. And with glass Chameleons can get worked up by there own reflections, coz they see there reflection as a rival, and can get stressed. The cages you have would be more suited for Crested geckos, Day geckos, etc.
This is nice but you should not use a glass tank with chameleons because they have super sensitive respiratory systems and there is not enough air flow in the tank so I would recommend getting a screen tank just to benefit the life of your chameleon!
Like others have said, glass is not a good choice for keeping any species of chameleon. You need to get a repti-breeze. You can use the exo terra to keep crested geckos in or dart frogs. The mesh cage is recommended to reduce stress, chameleons don't like each other and with glass they see their own reflection and it stresses them out a lot.. Also, they like to climb the screen, and cant climb glass. Pet store employees don't always provide the correct info. Also, not to discourage you, Jackson's are super advanced and hard to keep alive due to all of their sensitivities to temperature changes. Best wishes.
Hi Nick, here's a suggestion for the back of your tanks. I paint the outside of the back of the tank with black acrylic paint. This works for aquariums as well. Good luck with he chameleon!
Hey Mr. Bingo!!! I was so excited when I found out you made a channel. And you keep on getting me excited from watching your videos. PS you should name the chameleon Ringo and if you get a female you should her lingo
Great video Nick!! Love seeing your channel grow and your love for all the animals. You should really consider getting a screen tank for the little guy though. Chameleons need a lot of fresh air to be healthy. They can develop respiratory infections very easily. Also the bigger the tank and the more plants the more comfortable they are. They love to hide. Check out videos about live plants and bioactive tanks. Serpadesign is a super cool channel that I know you will love. His tanks are amazing!!!
Hey Nick, Exciting!! You should make him a bioactive tank. Would make for a great video for us to watch too. I love him already! Please keep us updated on his progress XX
Nice enclosure, but something to keep in mind while making animal enclosures to arboreal lizards, frogs etc. that way too mant people froget is that all of the volume the animal can’t reach has no meaning. Especislly chameleons who can’t climb glass. Fill it up with vines and stuff all the way to the top. The chameleon also feel much more secure IF it isn’t wide open. And here it got no place to hide if he want to. This amount of space for it could you have in a 30*30*45 cm enclosure (12*12*18 inches i think) or something like that with good filling of vines and stuff. Another tip is to have vines of different thickness, they use to like different thickness and especially much thinner Tham the vines. I’m not saying that you need all of this to keep it healthy but this would make a paradise for him and he could be really stressed out by being so exposed.
Glad to hear you got or are getting a screen cage. However that fixture is fine for heat but you need a strip uvb not a compact like that for him. There known issues with metabolic bone disease from from compacts as it dosnt give off enough d3
THIS!! 100000% THIS!! my chameleon has one we built. She's a veiled chameleon and it is 28x28x 4ft tall on the inside. Also humidifiers you have to be soooo careful on!
They don't. The coil uvb is crap, the cage needs to be mesh so they don't get upper respiratory infections. Water bowls are not recommend they wont use it to begin with. They need a bunch of vitamins but not needed every day such as vitamin D3 calcium I believe one other(I'm still learning myself before I actually get one). these are all things the pet stores don't tell you.
Being someone who works for a chameleon breeder I saw the glads tank and lost it, thankfully I read the comment though. Chams Need a lot of air flow and when they’re in a glass tank they aren’t getting that I would recommend 4ft+ for a cage as he will indeed get a little bit bigger but also if you do this and have a lot of foliage 1-your Cham will love it! 2-if you have a cage in a corner the vines and flowers in the cage make a bomb conversation starter. And for lighting make sure you have your heat lamp and uvb lighting zoo med has some great choices.
@@justenteders9448 exactly, i use glass for my chameleon, and some aspects may not be as good, but it's much safer for the temperature and humidity in my country
Also, chameleons lap up water off of leaves and dont require a water bowl if you are providing them with correct humidity and water on leaves. Just a thought
Along with the screen cage everyone Is talking about you definitely need to add a lot of clutter with plants and perches and such so he'll be more secure. Also if you choose to do a bioactive setup definitely add springtails and isopods as a clean up crew!!
You should get a screen cage because my friend had a chameleon and he got a upper respiratory infection and passed away because his tank was too humid and my friend asked her vet and they told her that it was because there wasn’t enough circulation in the glass cage and if she had put a fan at the bottom of the cage that it might not have happened. I would just hate for your chameleon to die from too much humidity so just wanted to share this with you so you can decided what would be best love your vids keep up the good work
Thank you guys for the feedback , gonna go pick him up a screen enclosure today and ill show you guys in one of the upcoming videos!

evaneckerson14 veiled, panther, and Jackson’s don’t do good in glass terrariums.
Depends on where u live
@@travmendoza depends on where u live
JOTAN pretty much everywhere. Only thing that depends on where you live is the moisture in the tank. Glass tanks are a no for chameleons.
Cool Video Nick keep up the grind 👍
These vids are awesome. You should catch your own saltwater fish for your tank!
