All parents are teenagers in this prequel, Katniss mom and dad, maybe her grandparents will be revealed!!! Peeta’s parents, even Gale’s parents too. This book has so much potential!!! I’m so exited!!!!

Tigris and Maggs both play a major role in this book. Tigris will be Haymitch’s stylist, and the things she does to encourage Haymitch is the final nail in her relationship with Snow. I feel that it’s not an accident that Haymitch speaks so kindly of Maggs in Catching Fire. She made a profound impact on him, perhaps as a surrogate mentor because 12 doesn’t technically have an available winner? There will be many Easter eggs as it pertains to Katniss’ mom and dad.

I was also thinking a Maysilee, Haymitch and Snow triple perspective would be possible! The problem with just Haymitch is like you said is wasn't mentioned in the announcement, but also he spends most of the games trying the make it to the edge of the arena, rather than being in the midst of the action like Katniss was in the first 2 books/movies. Even though the novel won't take place during the 25th Hunger Games, we'll most definitely get some more information on it. Plus if part of the novel is from Snow's perspective, we'll likely get some more details on his rise to power, and maybe find out what happened to Dr. Gaul and the Grandma'am (both of whom are likely dead by this point), as well as a potentially diminishing relationship with Tigris. We'll probably also get cameos of Katniss's parents, and maybe even find out their names. The final thing I wanted to mention is that even though we know what happens during the 50th Hunger Games from the chapter in Catching Fire, Collins said a major theme in the book will be propaganda and misinformation. It could be that the Games Katniss and Peeta saw were not the whole/true story of what went down
I agree a Haymitch/Maysilee split perspective would serve the story best. And maybe some flashbacks to Haymitch growing up in 12 while he treks across the whole ass arena. A Snow perspective added could be interesting but might take away from the plot. I would much prefer to see a young Plutarch perspective if we're going with a Capitolite
Totally! Peeta and Katniss only saw Capitol footage of Haymitch's games which they definitely could have altered to fit their own narrative!

I heard that this may be the last one because she is out of district 12 victors, however if she is going through the district 12 victors then I think it makes more sense to bookend series with Peeta’s story. He could be the voice that takes us through the building of the new Panem and building of the memorials.. Start the series with Katniss’s voice and end it with Peeta’s voice.
I did think that Suzanne is telling us the stories of her District 12 victors and will likely stop at Haymitch's story but omg if we got a Peeta pov novel I would actually cry. Reading a novel Suzanne Collins wrote full of more hopeful themes would be brilliant
I've seen people speculating as to who would play a middle aged Snow and the general concensus seems to be Donald Sutherland's son Keifer.

Just rebounding over your mentor idea : What if Haymitch's mentor was not Seneca Crane but Plutarch Heavensbee ? It would explain how a gamemaker from one of the wealthiest families in the Capitole got into the rebellion. Maybe he got really close with Haymitch and turned his back on Snow after what he does to his family.
And I believe Snow was already president since he's the one to read the card of the Quarter Quell in the recap Katniss and Peeta watch.
Dude you are a GENIUS! We see Plutarch conspiring with both Haymitch and Finnick in the Catching Fire movie so he would likely have known the two of them for a while. The underground rebellion and connection to District 13 surely started at the Fiftieth Hunger Games
@@CJs_Galaxy Thank you. I heard another theory so this one isn't from me about how Tigris turned her back on Snow because of Finnick.
In the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, it is implied that Tigris had to prostitute herself in order to keep her family fed. And Katniss remembers Tigris from the earliest Hunger Games she remembers as a stylist from a district that she's not sure about.
The theory says that Tigris was Finnick's stylist in the 65th Games so when Katniss was 7. It would make sense the cousin of the president gets a career district. And when Snow forced Finnick into prostitution, it was too much to bear to Tigris and she left, preparing her revenge on her own cousin.
That would explain why her appearance is even more disturbing than in Katniss's memory. It was to prevent anyone to abuse her again.
@@theoriginalalan Yes! It's something I definitely consider to be heavily implied in the books so maybe we'll see a Tigris progressing into finally wanting to rebel and Finnick was simply the last straw (maybe she's even Haymitch's stylist?)

Greasy Sae would be an amazing narrator or at least a good supporting character in the plot. She HAS to be in that novel somewhere SURELY

I did think about that. It would be so interesting since we have Katniss's pov of her mother but I also think I'd want to fight her mother the whole time

And I assume the book is going to focus heavily on family as an overarching theme. Meaning The later book's protagonist's families, Haymitch's family and friends, but also Snow's family, as he had mentioned that he did choose not to marry for love.
It's my understanding anyhow that all Hunger Games book focus on "love" in a very broad understanding of the word.
In my mind, the boy/girl pairings in Ballad were intentional, as an experiment by Dr Gaul. Ten Hunger Games in, she wanted to see if there could ever be alliance between District and Capitol. And who better to choose than young ppl with raging hormones. There was bound to be infatuation at least, and it worked twice I believe (for Snowy boy and also his classmate who helped Jessup, allthough it might have been subtle). Snow cheated for love, switched districts for love, realized he "loved" life in the Capitol and power more, and eventually killed the love (or empathy) in himself to return to Dr. Gaul, who in him found the perfect specimen for future experiments. She realized early on that the people becoming seemingly tired of watching the Hunger Games meant the budding of empathy and eventually would have resulted in a revolte.
The original trilogy showed a world where there was no time for "love". People are either starving in the districts, working themselves to an early grave, or party so much in the Capitol that they lose what little humanity they have. Their love is a construct made by the game makers when it's time for the annual idol competition. And while the other districts are hungry for literal food, I think the Capitol is hungry for love. You can be touch starved, after all. They see Peeta and Katniss fall in love and go absolutely ham for that, to the point of calling to end the games on air in book 2.
Long story even longer: I think the new book will show the differences in Snow's - or maybe other Capitol people's - family, and the families of Haymitch and gang in the districts. And their allyship later on within the games is also a type of found family thing I imagine. I think we''ll spend a longer time before the games in 12 getting to know everybody, most likely meeting parents and grandparents of the OG trilogy gang, and really connecting with them and their relationship. We'll see how they love one another and then see how there is non of that in Snow's chosen life.
And when Snow realizes his seemingly cruel idea with the force field was used to make this boy win and return to his family - and maybe Haymitch has also had firepilace conversations about who is waiting for him - Snow knows he has to make Haymitch and example and kill his family. Because if you do anything to upset Big Brother, everyone you love dies. And Haymitch will also not "love" anybody for a long time, because he will mentore all these kids who die within minutes throughout the years.

We love long comments on this channel! The theme of love is so prevalent in many forms throughout the series. Tigris gave Snow so much love but he chose not to acknowledge it. Peeta and Katniss loved each other through trauma. Haymitch, whilst spent so much of his life forced to live without love very similiar to Snow (Snow was definitely projecting) Haymitch eventually got to love his found family in Katniss and Peeta (and surely Effie was there too).
Suzanne Collins seems to LOVE love and I'm sure we will explore so many different possibilities of love in this new novel.
One that I would LOVE is if it was written from the perspective of every single tribute, switching each chapter. It could be a really interesting way to see how each tribute reacts to the games. You could see their backgrounds, their families, their skills, their reactions, their decisions, and eventually their deaths. We could watch the reaping from the perspective of a career, the training from the perspective of a kid who knew the ocean instead of the forest, the judging from the perspective of a kid with no good skills, the bloodbath from the perspective of a kid who chose to run to the cornucopia, etc. Since we already know Haymitch's story, it would be interesting to see his story play out, but just in the background of the other players' stories. Then, the last chapter would be Haymitch's perspective, ending with the death of his entire family and the start of his new life. It would definitely be nothing like the previous books, but it would also be a great what to emphasize and continue all the same themes and really show how no one is excempt from this horrible system.
It might get confusing with so many perspectives, but it would also be a lot like how the citizens of Panem would experience the games. It would also really show exactly how cruel the games are, as I feel like people are starting to forget how horrible the games would really be and instead start to view the books as the exact same kind of fun entertainment that Collins was originally criticizing. It's one thing to just read how Katniss felt watching the games, but to feel exactly how painful it is to watch every single kid die the same way Katniss did with Rue, it would really show how exhausting and demoralizing it would be to be a normal person in that world.
I think that would be super cool to read but that would also make a super thick novel and I mean a novel thicker than TOBSAS

I think it might be from Katniss’s mothers perspective because it’s canon that Mesa Lee Donner grabbed on to Katniss his mother when her name got called for the 50th hunger games so I’m thinking maybe it’s from her perspective

However looking back to the original novels I think it's mentioned snow was already president at that point.

Even though Ballad of songbirds isn’t in 1st person, i still think it qualifies as having an unreliable narrator. I think you are right about it being that way so we wouldn’t empathize too much with Snow.

Totally! The third person narration wasn't omniscient so they couldn't have known the story outside of Snow so they were definitely biased

Definitely! We just have the whole recount of the games themselves so I'm thinking a new pov from a capitol citizen like Plutarch or a different district 12 civilian like greasy sae might provide more information.

@@CJs_Galaxy I never bought the Lucy Gray if Greasy Sae but it was pointed out to me last night that the names rhyme and have same cadence which can not be a coincidence in fiction. So now I am thinking what if Lucy Gray/Greasy Sae is the narrator in Sunrise and what connects all the books and could be present in Peeta’s story as well.

That's definitely a possibility! I've seen some people talking about a character like Cato being the narrator since there were twelve career tributes. I'm so excited to see how Suzanne Collins wrote about propaganda because a career tribute perspective would be insane

I think the narrator has to be alive which is why Lucy did narrate her story. I do think Haymitch’ will be the voice because he is alive.
I thought the same thing when I started seeing people questioning if a career tribute will narrate the story because I can't see Suzanne Collins finishing a novel with the narrator's death. That's also the reason why I think Plutarch or Effie could be possible narrators as well as Haymitch
