with the hud symbology, think of the e bracket and the velocity vector as a throttle. the further down the velocity vector is, the more thrust is going to be applied, and vice-versa.
This seems like such a cheat, lol. After this Ill never be able to hear "landing on a carrier is the hardest thing known to man" and not crack a smile and think of the physicists making a Fusion Reactors, lol.
My dad is Canadian ex military did 21 years he was an aircraft mechanic for the f-18 and the t-bird (CT-133). I was lucky enough to be able to sit in the f-18 a few times and even on the take your kid to work day I was able to sit in the plane while it was doing an engine run up with full afterburners on, it was an incredible experience. I definitely have a special love for the f-18. I just found your channel today and it's really enjoyable, I just subscribed and just wanted to leave a comment! Take care!
Hey Cap, thanks for another great tutorial!! A bit of request/video idea from me - would you be interested in making 'Dummies guide' style video (like you did for the Apache) for other modules? I noticed it was invaluable for me while testing out the apache, to quickly try and enjoy the module before deciding to buy it. For full tutorials and guides I had time later :)
ACLS also works with sandard carrier (setup is identical). However it will not give the guidance you see on the ACLS page in this video. When you reach 6 NM from the carrier and are roughly on needles, it allows you to engage CPL autopilot to do automatic landing as shown in this video.
@@zahnatom Check the carrier's heading on the F10 Map and subtract 9 degrees (for the angled deck). Doesn't have to be precise since ICLS will get you on the right localizer.
hey Cap, why everytime I try to enable autopilot, the aircraft enters CPL HDG or CPL TACAN ? I can't enter CPL P/R properly. Can you explain a little bit ? Thanks.
I think we must have terrible weather or must be night or case 3 conditions before mother will even give us the data. So make ur mission with inclement weather or dark or something and mother should give the data blocks finally. I’m also hoping my theory is correct.
Hey cap.. wondering if you have a video on the FA-18C when it comes to resetting the FCS after landing... once i take off again from a carrier i have no throttle and flight control and from a runway the result is very similar very frustrating!!
Can you use this function in less than Case3? Maybe that's my big issue, lol. How can I force Case3 and sill kinda see things for practice? Using ATC on approach makes it almost point and click anyway.
I cant remember about case 2 but definitely can't in case 1. Can only do manual landings and/or use ICLS in case 1. You'll have to set the map to night time (possibly after 22:00) or terrible weather like in the vid.
When was this video made? I try as hard as I can with F18 I can't see the Carrier tacan only within 27-28 miles often even less no matter what altitude I climb to. I don't understand how you can be 35 miles in the video. Sorry for my English.
Can anyone help using ACLS mode by the book . Flying all the data as I am coming in I am getting perfect calls at last minute they say I am high and wave me off. If I let it go it lands.
Does this work only with the supercarrier? For me the established and the commencing doesnt show up. I use the cvn74 stennis and i am in case3 revovery... Please help i sat here for hours
I wish ACLS could be used for all landings and not just case 3. I know it's a simulator and so should match the real aircraft. But if it was me, I would like the opportunity in real flight to practice the ACLS in good weather just I could be sure of its operation. I would hate for my first real automatic landing to be in poor visibility, but maybe I am missing something.
I have a problem when i takeoff and land in the f-18. It seams below a certain speed my Hud goes all weird. the pitch path or reader goes to the side of the Hud and is no longer centered. I dont know if this is suppose to happen or if I am doing something wrong. I though it may be because of wind and my aircraft is drifting but i dont know?
try the "cage/uncage" function? seems like you have uncaged the velocity vector, so it shows you deviation due to winds and inertia ... (press C oder mapped control and see if it changes)
It’s supposed to work like that, the actual autopilot switchover is part of the final phase of the approach. You fly by instrument and the acls’s commanded airspeed/altitude until you get to the “say needles” point. If you’re roughly on needles, from there on outward you can hand over and engage cpl AP.
@@Decrepit_biker I wasn't first. That you need this explained to you is even more scary than thinking that saying "first" means something important, lol. What a fail.
Remember: ATC in landing configuration will not hold speed but AoA instead, so perfect for landing.

You are on the 169 radial with a inbound track of 349. If you pass the carrier and keep the same track, then you are on the 349 radial.
Love these tutorials. Thanks for sharing, Cap👍
Thank you Cap and GR for always giving us amazing content . Much love from USA 🇺🇸
The A is actually "All-Weather".
Almost everyone says Automatic but that's wrong.
Which also goes to show the USN is stupid sometimes.
Wow! Thanks so much Cap! can't wait to learn and practice this. Doing it manually is a NIGHTMARE!!!!!
Great tutorial
Damn that was beautiful!

Absolutely awesome tutorial Cap! As always, of course!
Thank you very much for this! I so look forward to trying it out for myself! :-)
Cheers, David.
Too much to remember Cap😮
Seriously, just simpler to land normally lol
I'll never remember how to do it myself in a mission.
seems like you absolutely need Super Carrier for this
Correct

ACLS. Isn’t that what killed Lou Gehrig?

that's what it's made for

Yes. Make sure you use bad weather or be at night.
It works, but you only get the last step, that is the CPL autopilot when reaching 6NM from the carrier and on the needles.
Does this work in case 1 recovery? Can’t seem to get it to be automatic landing
No, acls is aviable as case 2 and case 3 since it bases its connection on ils which would be case 2 and upwards!

Can CH develop the tempest and ngad fighters
Yes BUT the only problem is that we can't simulate most of the 6th gen systems, so they basically become a F-22 with a different 3d model.
Is this a re upload or is this a new addition to DCS?
F18 already had ACLS, but this is probably an updated video as I'm sure the procedure has changed since they introduced it
It's been in game for ages, but only just got around to learning it now.
how did you get a ACLS, although you dont fly at night?
The descent rate doesnt matter... * if you don't want to accurately simulate CV NATOPS procedures. *
I’m running to issues with flying MP on 4YA. Often the coupled P/R doesn’t engage until 2-3 miles. Ideas?

Do you have auto throttle on?
nevermind I see it now
so all that effort i put into lerning carrier landings is useless now
the fog effect is terrible
that's cheating 😅
why? Its realistic.
