This WAS a Parody of the James Bond Franchise... "What would happen if the 60's James Bond were here today". The Bond Femme Fatales names were sexual innuendos (Like "Pussy Galore"), "Random Task" was to Austin as "Oddjob" was for Bond (Oddjob threw his hat to decapitate his enemies). And Dr. Evil was Patterned after "Blofeld", Bond's nemesis.
You know how with some franchises, the first movie is a hit, so they make a bunch of sequels in descending order of watchability until nobody from the first movie is even in the final one? Yeah, well forget that with this franchise! Every single one of these is top notch quality. Oh sure, I may have my personal favorite, (the second one), but all of them offer the best of the original characters as well as introducing new faces and scenarios from the early Bond / Flint era.
the second one is the best but I still think Liz Hurley is the hottest, then Heather Graham and then Beyoncé although Beyoncé has a great butt, I’m generally not very attracted to ebony, not bc of race i’m just very picky and she’s not my cup of tea. Nicki Minaj on the other hand….
The jokes got worse as time went on. More and more “toilet humor” and sexual innuendo. (Of course, that’s what I expect from Mike Myers.) The 2nd and 3rd aren’t unwatchable, but definitely not as good as the first.
"What are these?!" They're a reference to Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, a very popular TV comedy show in the late 60s and early 70s. Very anarchic and surreal, with a 60s hippy vibe: the longer sketches were interspersed with transition scenes of a few seconds of the cast go-go dancing, with the young female cast members wearing bikinis. The blonde woman at 21:27 is supposed to be Goldie Hawn, who played an exaggerated "dumb blonde" character, and her hair really was that short back then. [Edited to add] If you search UA-cam for "Mod World Of Adventure | Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In | George Schlatter", the thumbnail of Goldie Hawn looks almost identical to the scene here.
When I want to break the tension in an argument, I quote the line,"I've had enough of you pushing me around." With the same delivery. Gotta say works like a charm.
Most of Austin Powers characters are based on the characters from old James Bond movies Dr.Evil - Ernst Stavro Blofeld (You Only Live Twice) Frau Farbissina - Rosa Klebb (From Russia with Love) Ransom Task - Oddjob (Goldfinger) Number 2 - Emilio Largo (Thunderball) Alotta Fagina - Pussy Galore (Goldfinger)
Couldn't Xenia Onatop or Dr Goodhead also by Alotta Fagina? But I still love Denise Richards characters oneliner. I thought Christmas only comes once a year
James Bond meets Monty Python. The script is literally a quote fest. Absolutely hysterical, overtly ridiculous and subtly sensitive, it's the best. Someone parked so far up my ass the other day that I literally found myself in the hallway cart seen. At first I was pissed but then remembered this and just had to laugh! The second film builds on what works in this one but the last, I digress. It's not mine baby! Also have to love Carrie Fischer and shout out to Scott's Kurt Cobain shirt. RIP. i dont know about anyone else but i still love the 60's/70's decor so much i think it all just looks soo cool. best thing about the austin powers films is the Easter eggs galore for james bond films like Random task who throws a shoe... instead of odd job who decapitates with his bowler hat. if you are going to watch the sequels i advise you to watch some of the older james bond films so you get the references.
21:30 The transitions? That's a callback to the show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, which used such transitions. I don't know when the style was invented, but that show certainly made it popular.
Hello Evie!😊 It looks like you got your hair done. It looks nice!👱🏻♀👍🏻 Did you realize Dr. Evil was also Mike Myers too? The sequels are actually funnier than this film. They also cut way down on the musical breaks, too. The films are mostly inspired by the earlier James Bond films from the Sean Connery years. Great reactions to your very first Austin Powers film, Evie!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I didn't hear you mention it in the opening, but these flicks are heavy spoofs of the James Bond franchise. I might have recommended watching a few of those films before starting Austin Powers. It'd be like watching Scary Movie without watching Scream.
Such a good movie. I highly refined looking up the special features that showed Dr.Evils random guards families hilariously/sadly reacting to their deaths
When Austin was in that bar and threw a peace sign up at those random people- they laughed at him. But I want to call bullshit on that because in the 90s, there was like a resurgence of 60s culture talking about psychedelic fashions peace signs (all that) 🤔 How do you think this movie happened? Huh I think some yuppies from the 80s would be more likely to laugh at him for that
It sucks that in the American version they cut out two short scenes regarding Dr Evil's henchmen. I was wondering why so many reactors were leaving out those gags, but I just discovered that there's an American version and an international one. That's why. They even removed Christian Slater's cameo from themovie! 🤣
The "actor" who played Random Task really got into his character later on… He committed sexual assault and got 7 to life, and while in prison killed someone and got an additional 27 years for voluntary manslaughter. So currently 34 years to life.
Austin Powers is awesome. I didn't dig it when I was a kid in the 90's (the sight of 1997 Elizabeth Hurley kinda stunned me, as it still does today, but that was it), but I'm glad I gave it a second chance recently, because I LOVED it that time, Mike Myers' outrageous performance, the humor ("very dumb, but very smart", as you say...), the obvious spoof elements (the more you know JB, the better)... oh, and Mustafa's death scene is legendary. But um... so are you ANOTHER reactor who didn't notice Princess Leia, or did I miss that part? :D
21:27 These are transitions, you know, from one scene to the next. Like the thing Adam West Batman TV show would do with the spinning background and a bat logo. No one really does those anymore, now when you got a new scene there's a short establishing shot (those shots of a city from the sky or such).
You really need to watch the Sean Connery Bond films to really understand Meyers and his spoofing/parody on the Bond films---Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball. For example.....Alotta Fagina is a play on the character name "Pussy Galore" from Goldfinger. Random Task is Oddjob from Goldfinger as well.....And...The "Judo Chop". A lot of those in Connery Bond movies
Great movie. This movoe is a parody of the good old James Bond movies before Daniel Craig Bond movies. I think you miss allot of jokes since you did not see old James Bond movies. The group therapy scene is one of the funniest scenes I have seen in any movie. You should also see Mike Mayer's in his Wayne's World movies
IMO, this trilogy gets better as you go. It's a parody of James Bond and various spy movies and TV shows. For instance, the black cat suit Vanessa wore was a reference to a TV show called "The Avengers" (no relation to Marvel). The actor who played #2 was in a TV show called "It Takes A Thief," which was basically a spy / caper type series. And so on.
I wouldn't bring up marvel, actors in tight leather in front of a green screen lol even Spielberg the greatest director of all time said Marvel movies are not real cinema and ridiculous
Vanessa getting mad at Austin for shagging the other girl makes no sense. She wasn't in a relationship with Austin, they were work partner, she told him she would never shag him even if he was the last man on earth. So she literally can't get mad at him for shagging another women. Is he just supposed to never shag anyone again?

Its a James bond [007] parody
very end was randomly funny front flip fail landed on the clutch of the car
but inspired by "in like flint". Austin mentions its his favorite movie and its also a movie he watched with his dad as a kid.
also, much of it seems to be drawn from the 'Carry On' movies, which for some reason never gets mentioned.
Elizabeth Hurley was also in another great comedy with Brendan Fraser called Bedazzled. Absolutely worth checking out on the channel.
I always recommend that movie after people watch this movie.
Not as good as the original “Bedazzled” starring Dudley Moore.

Exactly, most of the jokes don't have the full effect if you don't get the references. e.g. the name Alotta Fagina...
Yes, especially apparent with the "Random Task" character, made in mockery of "Oddjob" from James Bond.
