Auf Hochleistungssport kann man Breckers Spiel nicht reduzieren, er hatte einfach ein sagenhaftes Talent und eine unglaubliche, unerschöpfliche positive Energie
For those of you who don’t approve of the solo it’s OK , I’ll take your listening space ! Thanks P.S. do you have a pencil and manuscript I can borrow ?
This is phenomenal but in my opinion, this Brecker solo over Impressions is somehow even better. The opening motif is so catchy. ua-cam.com/video/m5l1OTkNGFk/v-deo.html
I kinda agree with the guy that said not a single good melody was played. Mostly in the sense that, while very, very impressive, that solo did nothing for me, made me feel nothing. It sounded like vomiting notes. But, I'm probably wrong. The older I get the more I dunno, I go back to listening to Miles and enjoy it haha. I can't with these solos anymore. Yes, you're right, probably hours and hours of practice. But ...
Get your horn or whatever instrument you play and play along, but slowly. The transcription is here. There is a ton of feeling within the blazingly fast progression of notes and phrases. Different strokes perhaps, but when I was a teenager with a mind that wouldn't stop, I would put on Coltrane's Giant Steps album for relaxation.
So sad that he didn’t make it to his 60th birthday but boy did he burn bright while he was here. There’s never been anybody like him.
Coltrane, sonny rollings, breaker copy coltrane and many others BEFORE HIS TIME

A transcendent voice
@@Zxx459 none of those guys had the chops brecker had, even tho they of course are fantastic and expanded on jazz in their own way
trane definitely had those chops. @@emil25558
I love those augmented patterns he keeps superimposing.
He was playing minor triads in major thirds.
Interesting. I love the superimposed patterns he keeps augmenting. But to each his own.

Yeah you're right. I just assumed 'augmented' because I was hearing that major third root movement. @@Yo-sb9st
@@Yo-sb9styeah for most of those he’s starting on the 5th, then going to the minor 3rd
Sat right in front of him in a small jazz club in Milwaukee in 1975 also David Sanborn was with him - fantastic.
There was so much tension I thought his brain would pop out of the socket.
That's why I never took to Brecker, he sounds as though he's arguing a point that no one disagrees with.
@@ClearOutSamskaras Yup, I don't think he was even close to blowing a fuse!

Mike was just a flat out baller😎
Did not know footage of this exists. I love this quartets album Infinity so much! Thank you!!
Legendary!
Makes me sad to notice McCoy and Michael now longer with us :(
As a tenor player I approve of this message.
That cat was really cooking.
ONE OF THE MUSICAL Geniuses of 20 and 21 century !
He needs to be studied in every conservatory and music Academy ❗
RIP Mike❣❣❣
good lord that was something else
Mike was an absolute MADMAN
What a crazy solo ya know if vaugely reminds me of a song called impressions
Even the bass player took his break
But not Mike
Speechless...............................
Incredible, of course! And no altissimo -- so far. OMG he's missed.
Indeed! Gotta love his lowissimo though.
John Coltrane would give him a standing ovation
Why?
Michael Brecker is the greatest saxophonist of all time. He was the Liszt of sax. 🎉🎉❤

Updated! Thanks for letting me know.
If we are alloted a certain number of notes to play in life... that's why I like Ballads.
More like when you transcribe for 40 hrs. a day...dang. Nice work.

No feeling like when a kick ass band builds this beautiful wave for you ride on as a long as you want. Awesome solo and playing all around
It sounded like he really got into a groove when the video stops. I wish the uploader allowed the music to keep playing.
40 hours a day, 20 days a week should be enough
WHICH concert is this taken from? Please help!!!!

Branford Marsalis: “meh”
Are we sure that 40 hrs might be sufficient?
who da drummer?
Thank you for posting this. By the way, did you mean the title to be: "When you practice 40 hours a week" ?
No, because if Michael Brecker practiced 40 hours a week, it wouldn't be Michael Brecker 😉
If you want to be as good as Ling Ling you need to practice 40 hours a day.
Twoset violin reference
Damn...........he did the unconceivable.......except for him....
Do you mean 40 hours a week?
I would say that, but if he practiced 40 hours a week, it wouldn’t be Brecker 😎
True.
…and eight days a week!
40 hours an hour
So dont practice too much or you ll sound like a maniac...
😂 Good lesson ! Thanks !
How does one practice 40 hours in one day?🤔
michael brecker was once bitten by a rattle snake... after 3 days of suffering the rattle snake died.

There's also such a thing as practising your listening. This solo is chock full of melodies.
I stand behind my initial comment. But thanks, it's all a matter of point of view, and I appreciate yours. But this does nothing for me.

Eighth notes up and down the scales basically. No phrasing at all.

Different kind of beauty. Maybe not beautiful to everybody. It was to him and was to the people who like his music.
