  • I unbox, assemble, and review this amazing new belt sander from Grizzly. This is their new 2x42 Variable speed belt sander with a very powerful 3/4 HP motor. This Sander is versatile in so many different ways from rotating it from vertical to horizontal sanding to being able to control different speeds for sanding different materials. I was absolutely impressed with the performance of this sander and has no issue hogging off material in no time. I highly recommend this sander to knifemakers everywhere especially if you cant afford some of the large 2x72 belt sanders. For the low price of 300 and it shipped very quickly with excellent packaging.

    I just got mine today! What an upgrade from a 1x30. I can't believe I did it with that for 2 years!

    2:15 Those handles are probably spring loaded and act like built in wrenches. The same kind are on the axis locks of my grizzly mill. You just pull out on the handle and the handle can then rotate independently from the bolt, so you can get a better angle and keep turning the bolt. They are designed that way to give you better leverage than a handle short enough to spin all the way around does.

      With all 3 of adjusters being so close even when pulling them out with spring it was such a pain without cutting that tip off

    Cool! I just bought one also. So far so good with mine. These are going to be very popular! By the way those handles can be pulled out and rotated for clearance. There's a spring holding each one in place. Thanks for the video.

      I came here to say the same. I noticed on the OG Ladouceur vid he did exactly the same thing and my internal voice was shouting “NOOOOO! Haven’t you ever seen a leaver like that before?”😂

      @robinson-foundry I have a similar type machine from another company. It also has the same kind of handle. It hits up against the housing and you just pull it out turn it back, tighten or loosen. It's kind of like a ratchet handle. They do work quite well.
      This Grizzly looks like a good solid machine. Not that I need another machine but I will take a look at it. Thanks for the demonstration.

    Stop, Stop, don't cut the end of the adjuster. They are spring loaded and can be repositioned on the clamping screw. Pull out on it and turn it to where it is free but still clamps down. Thank you for the video!

      That was the question I had... was going to ask if they were spring loaded... Thank you.

    Thank you for the great review on a good machine. Some other reviewers are basically putting it through a torture test and then calling it a failure because it can’t do what their 2x72 can do.

    so glad i found this BEFORE spending 1K on a 2x72. I know there nice but for price point right now this is BY FAR better option IMO.

    The platen is too big for the belt useless for grinding into the ricasso area. Blade wanders under load more than I have ever seen either the belt tension is to low or there needs to be a bigger crown on the guide wheel. This is not a knifemakers grinder as it is. This is more of a tinkerers tool or hobbyist tool.

    How much price in pakistan

  • @T_L_D
    @T_L_D 10 місяців тому +1

    man, at that price I won't be surprised if they can't keep stock of these. I've got one of the typical single speed 2x42's that we all know about, and this would be a massive upgrade without having to get into a whole new belt ecosystem. then I can use the old 2x42 and the older 1x30 for dedicated sanding / finishing stations. definitely saving up for this one.

    Hello! If, when you press the workpiece against the belt, it (the tape) moves to the side, this means that the tension of the belt is weak. It needs to be strengthened with another spring.

    im not as sold as everyone else. Jon over at Old Hickory Forge tested one out and the motor burnt out after an hour of grinding. the wheel on a hinge has so much play in it that youre constanly retracking the belt. the platton face wear out so fast youd think youd been running it for months... those were the most important things ive noticed and i do not approve. unless they fix them im not getting one

    • @BerserkerBlades
      @BerserkerBlades  9 місяців тому

      I actually just started recently having problems with the motor heating up a little too fast. Had to call Grizzly and explain all of that. What they were trying to do with a 110 SP motor with variable speed your switching from AC to DC which therefore will have up then down effect with your voltage. And judging by the way the motor is wound it seems like it's having trouble sustaining that...or I just have a bad motor

  • @RVsbladesnthangs
    @RVsbladesnthangs 9 місяців тому +1

    Everyone else has called them junk... bogged them down, but you say it's good and you recommend it.
    I don't get it...???

    • @BerserkerBlades
      @BerserkerBlades  9 місяців тому +1

      Well from what I understand some people have been getting motors that over heated quite fast with minimal use. I guess some people are getting bad motors. I have not been able to bog mine down and honestly if you let the tool do the work you shouldn't be bogging down on anything.

      I'm trying to decide between a grinder and a forge press right now. If this grinder is good, I can probably manage to get a log splitter and this grinder, and have both. I'm just scared of this grinder from all the bad reviews

    Nice video. One thing you might consider is making your adjustable wheel's "arm" longer... or larger wheel diameter? Allows for using 6X48 belts,that you tear into 3,2" wide belts. Just a suggestion,check prices.

      Well yes and no. Lately my motor is heating up rather fast so I've been putting a fan on it. Called Grizzly and there sending me another motor hopefully that does the trick. Everything else is amazing to me.

    It appears that you need to somehow get the belt tighter as you can tell from the videos when you're using it the belt wants to wander when you put a heavy load of grinding on it i don't feel that the belt is tight enough. My 2x72 doesn't ever do that but I'm able to get the belts tight.

    • @BerserkerBlades
      @BerserkerBlades  10 місяців тому

      You don't need reverse for sharpening. I sharpen daily on my 2x72 and I never use reverse. Variable speed is a game changer. This machine ought to be dynamite for sharpening.

      I like the grinder. I have a 2 by 42 and tons of belts. So I would like to get one of these configured with strong components.
      I’m sure I’ll get one and move forward slowly with mods.
      Thanks. I’ll subscribe as well.
