I saw this movie in theaters as a child. I was spellbound throughout the whole film. It was a HUGE part of my childhood. It held the same court as 89 Batman and 90's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was a movie perfectly catered to our generation. I'd have to go with Pleastendub on why Spielberg would ever consider this movie even close to being a disappointment. I'm sure if he was presented with the opinions and views of those of us that grew up with this movie as a part of of childhood joy he'd see his work in a much different light.
And to think. The reason this movie was made was because the writer’s child asked a random question about what if Peter Pan grew up. So I’ll say thank you to the writer’s kid.
If there ever is a hook reboot *and lets be honest they will and fuck it up* it will never be the same because i don't see Robin Williams playing the character i see a adult peter pan.
Gotta give Rufio much respect. Peter had left the lost boys and Rufio took on the responsibility of protecting them. He did a great job keeping them safe all that time. It makes sense why Peter chose him in the first place.
@@YTWarrior100 then how did Rufio have his sword? I’m not saying they didn’t feel abandoned but I believe Peter came and told them he was leaving and gave him his sword and told him to look after the lost boys
Hook was actually not liked by Critics in 91 I remember seeing this in theaters when I was 7 and it had a bad rating at the time so the critics have nothing to do with it, it is just lazy writing and the greatest Actors,Directors,Writers have all retired or died and their kids don't even have half of their talent hopefully a new generation of brilliant Actors,Directors and Writers are born soon because we haven't seen them yet.
I have no idea why Spielberg constantly says he dislikes this film. It's great. Well acted, beautiful set decorations, costume and design, the fairy tale atmosphere works and the music is epic. And it's an extremely hard sell if you think about it. Non cynical, non ironic story about Robin Williams being an adult Peter Pan. And it works. Hell of a movie.
The movie has its moments but its bloated and gets unfocused at times. Case in point, the whole Tinker Bell being in love with Peter subplot was completely unnecessary.
@@Downerfunk That may have been fine for the animated film. But it's oddly squeezed into this movie and has no real payoff or purpose. It's as if they just wanted to give Julia Roberts more screen time or it's written in her contract to have an onscreen kiss with the hero. It was unnecessary.

It's another great score by the master. And that sounds so underwhelming, but honestly, John Williams IS just the best film composer of all times. And I am saying that in an age when we've had Howard Shore, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman and Vangelis. They've all made amazing scores, but not at such a consistent rate and over such a long period of time as John Williams. PLUS, they all are iconic. Apart from virtually every Star Wars theme, most people who've heard them would probably instantly recognize the Superman Theme, at least three themes from this film, Harry Potter Theme, Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park, and many other themes of these films AND would probably be able to hum them. This, I think, is an unparalleled achievement. I'm positiv a couple of hundred years from now, his works will be played in concerts like Mozart, Bach and Beethoven today.

Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Hook. I grew up with these films and I think Robin Williams was the first actor I could identify because of how much I watched them. He was a huge part of my childhood and I wish I could have met him in person just to thank him for all the joy he brought to me and my siblings growing up. RIP Robin Williams. I hope you found your happy thoughts.
100% agree. And Jumanji! I feel like I'm still missing several. Obviously he's amazing in movies like Patch Adams, Dead Poets Society, etc., but the three you mentioned + Jumanji are movies my brothers and I watched constantly as kids (I was born in 1988) and still quote all the time to this day. Jack is also an incredibly underrated movie that fit Williams perfectly. The guy just had this amazing, child-like way about him that made kids everywhere fall in love with him. I genuinely cried when Robin Williams died for that reason. So many laughs and so much joy that my family and I still laugh about every time we see each other.
Right when Peter stops falling, hearing the wind, then, the music ques. You see that cunning, joyful grin on his face (best shot). Rewound this part too many times as a kid! It is truly remarkable. So joyful and heartwarming. Full-eyed, goosebumps.
What makes it special is that with that smile, and with John Williams’ score behind it-it says that Peter isn’t Banning anymore. He is Peter Pan once more! 😀😃
This is truly the most amazing movie ever. It touches on literally every subject, so intimately. Hook being afraid of time and envying Pan, Rufio feeling abandoned, Pan growing and losing sight of himself, it’s a masterpiece.
Perhaps my favourite scene from any movie ever. When he flies out of the tree - epic. Then he reaches the peak and flexes back down. Unforgettable. How I wished that was me as a kid (and still now). 😂

It strikes me all of a sudden how much tragedy there is connected to Peter Pan's character. I'm not just thinking of Robin Williams, also Bobby Driscoll dying unidentified, all the way back to Peter Llewellyn Davies who James Barrie based Peter on, who threw himself under a train. There's something about the whole legend that makes the sadness of real life clearer.
Literally my favorite movie scene of all time from my childhood. The music, the acting, the superb timing all bring this scene together in perfect harmony. RIP Robin Williams......
Gets me chills every time I watch this seen. Was a huge Peter Pan nerd as a kid having the costume, toy and love the 1953 movie and Hook. Robin was truly Peter Pan in real life
I remember when Robin passed and some of my friends didn’t understand why it hit me so hard. They didn’t realize a huge part of my childhood died because he is my generations Peter Pan. I’m 37 so I was 6 when this came out. I had never seen anything cooler in my entire life. Forever grateful Robin gave us such a gift
Am I the only one who was getting Superman vibes off this scene in the film? He rediscovering his powers, the score, flying over where everyone can see him.
Still can't watch Hook, even 20 lbs years later, without laughing, crying, and getting shivers. This movie always reminds me of my childhood. NOBODY but Robin Williams could have done this role right. God, we wish Robin was still with us, but please take care of him up there.
One of my earliest childhood memories was seeing this movie in the theatres. My dad wore the same glasses and suite everyday to work. I literally thought my dad was the Pan. And I was so pleased by that thought. He just NOW learned of this and asked me…… “Wait, so was I Pan or the Hook?” God bless my dad 😅🙏🏽💙
Who's here after watching that crap Peter Pan and Wendy that will come out on Disney+? This Movie is Gold. My childhood One of my favorite scene when Peter Pan remember who really is after so many years apart
The whole film is magical, the whole sequence of Peter remembering and flying up into the sun is a stand out moment. This is still one of my favorite childhood movies I still watch all the time now and I’m 16 love Robin Williams I think it’s one of his best with Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam
The scene of Peter Pan flying through the clouds was my dream as a kid for years. I would imagine what it would be like to fly through the sky like him in that scene. Little did I know that dream would come true. I got certified as a skydiver and I was born and raised in Hawaii. I live that dream dream now and fly over Hawaii and skydive. Seeing this scene made me “remember” and reminded me when I was a kid and would watch this scene and think I could only do it in my dreams. If you haven’t skydived it doesn’t feel like your falling it feels like flying! No Falling sensation. Pretty emotional for me seeing this scene again. You earth dwellers have no idea.
There are countless spots that give me chills in this clip, but more than any are the Lost Boys erupting in excitement at 3:15. They’d accepted Rufio as their leader and seemed resigned to Peter never returning. To them it was a ghost coming back to life.

The joy of watching Robin Williams act. Still can't believe he's gone 😔
Sitting here in my mid 30's and this is still the most memorable movie scene from my childhood. This movie, scene, and background music - all perfect.
Still gives me goosebumps to this day - When a man finds out who he really is!
That was such an awesome touch they did at 0:48 having his shadow fly with him :)
This whole scene gives me just pure joy!
Love this movie!
who doesn't
Sadly, there are such people. :(
This gets me right in the feels. Became a father recently. I know how he feels now after all this time. I know.
I watch this every Thanksgiving on my DVD player lol 😂 love this gem with all of my heart, makes me feel like that free-spirited kid all over again 🙏🏼
I LOVE this scene from Hook everything about it is perfect including the music.!!
Time does fly, and so do you I see.
That little bow he makes while looking at Rufio gives me chills everytime
There are countless spots that give me chills in this clip, but more than any are the Lost Boys erupting in excitement at 3:15. They’d accepted Rufio as their leader and seemed resigned to Peter never returning. To them it was a ghost coming back to life.
And in this moment we all remembered what it was like to be a kid again, too.
Born 1985, this was an epic film for me when I was growing up as a child!
One of the most beautifully shot and scored movies of all time. A true masterpiece.
No one could've played Adult Peter Pan in Hook other than Robin Williams..NO ONE!!
Ahh my childhood comeback after seeing this
This movie made my childhood magical. I still love it today. Just watched with my own children. 🥺
