- Who knew Desi could pull off a Charles Boyer accent? (I left the bit with the heavyset guy at the end just to show how size-ist the program could be at times--seemed like it was perfectly acceptable to laugh heartily at the overweight contestants! He was a frog catcher BTW.)

Desi was underrated. I think he was HILARIOUS. I think he was an AWESOME comedian!
I love Desi so much! I love when he smiles, he is beautiful
Desi and Lucy FOREVER IN MY HEART.....
It's funny, but the poor / odd lighting on this show actually makes Desi look sexier than he did on the pristine I Love Lucy episodes.
I had once heard a story that CBS wouldn't allow Desi to be listed in the title of his and Lucy's program let alone give him top billing as he was Cuban. He fooled the network and got top billing as the "I" in "I Love Lucy".
Creative genius he was. Well said.
He and Lucy were geniuses. CHaracters on tv but business geniuses.
Desi's facial expressions are priceless
They were a great pair, and it is truly unfortunate that it happened that way...
The studio didn't want a Cuban at all , Lucy had to fight them . Stupid studio thought America wouldn't accept him, Desi was so talented and handsome what a loss if the studio had won. He made that show as much as her and I think it was lucy's best work.
I don't know where Arlene ran into Desi the night before, but wouldn't it have been fun to have been a part of the group!
This was wonderful. I absolutely love these episodes and I am thankful for the effort people have put into posting them. Thank you very much.
oui oui mon Cherie , his face! 😂😂😂😂😂
Arline gets them right every time she was good at the show.
"Righto".... Too funny! Are you a fairly young fellow? "Oui, Oui" Very funny stuff! It must have been Great fun to do this show! Thanks for posting!
Arlene always figures it out when it's Lucille, Desi or both of them. If you watch all four videos she figures it out.
...and his comic timing was great! Poor Lucy she didn't have a chance.
Liked how Desi was trying to keep from laughing out loud to prevent giving himself away!
i love watching I Love Lucy show
He made significant contributions to the history of Latin band music, and in 1951- 57, he helped set the foundations of what it means to be a television producer executive. The ideas he had for making his sitcom "I Love Lucy" were years ahead of their time, notably filming it before a live audience, not doing it on live TV. He could syndicate the films for ages and the Ball heirs are still getting residuals. Smart cookie.
Their kids say 'daddy Desi' was the fun one, the funny one. Lucy was rather driven and intense and a little scary as a mother. Of course she was a comic genius as was he.
I believe Lucy said she wasn't funny when not working. So she could do comedy, but she wasn't naturally comedic herself. I don't know if I really believe that appraisal of herself, but I get what she means.
This was amazingly funny. It's very hard for a person with an accent from one country (outside of the USA) and replace it with a completely different accent. Mr. Arnaz had an accent that was hard to mask, so he did an excellent job and probably got some help from an acting coach or something. Oh, and the last guy who gets made fun of for being heavy I think it's really sad that it was done with such callousness and lack of sensitivity on their part. At least today people pretend to care :o)
Dorothy's habit of looking at suit labels wouldn't tell anyone much today. The labels would all say China, Bangladesh or Vietnam.
i had such a crush on him
I know you can't really hear it here but i love Desi's laugh! hes adorable!
This is just one of the top 10 episodes on WML stars. Some of the others--Vincent Price---Cesar Romero--Ann Sheridan and many others. Including Judo Instructor Toni West--(looked like Marylyn Monroe double). This many years later so much fun to watch.
"Ehh..righto!" *gorgeous smile* I love it
My favorite parts are when he whispers that he only has one accent, when denies being the star of the show, and when asked if he is a fairly young fellow. :)
God, what a heartthrob!
I agree with you life, isn't always fair.
Gee, yi sured loved this show! 😊
Arlene saves the show...yet again!
She's such a funny and clever woman.
he has some splainin to do!
omg LOL "oui oui" haha
So funny! ♥
Lucy and Desi had very similar handwriting.
I love Desi so much!
The Desinator.
About 90% correct. They did not meet until the movies. The show Too Many Girls that Desi was in on stage was being made into a movie and they brought Desi and a few other guys out from Broadway but Lucy replaced the leading lady.
First time I've ever seen Desi in a role was Bataan.
i love how he accidently went from french to british xD "Righto!"
Love desi! Him and Lucy are great !
He and Lucy...
"Baba-Loo"
Gosh, Desi's awesome! Who else could pull that off ! :)
Thank you!!!
Desi was amazing on this :P
Ah i love desi! hes so funny!
This video is from November of 1952, Lucy was entering the six months of pregnancy ... I also love to this man.
Frog Catcher. You can find the clip on youtube
Have an uncle with the same hair, still.
I noticed a little flaw in his French - he pronounces the "ch" as the hard "ch" (i.e. the "tsch" in "Deutsch"), which is seen universally in Spanish, as opposed to the soft "ch" (like the "sh" in "show"), which is always seen in French. Still well-done and hilarious! I loved it!
$45 was a helluva lot of bucks back then. Lucy and Desi were brilliant.
4:06 OMG i had to watch that at least 5 times!!!!!!
Even disguising his voice, he sounds like Desi.
They remained friends, though.
@SOLE2SOUL The women absolutely threw themselves at him. The main reason he and Lucy divorced was that he couldn't resist all the female attention.
He also was a drunk and the pressure of being second banana and thought of only as a “wet back” or “lowly Hispanic” or riding on Lucille Ball’s coattails created huge fights between them which made living together impossible. He also sought out cheap woman for affairs and didn’t understand why this would upset his wife because it was ‘part of his culture’. In a Barbara Walters interview, Lucille Ball did refer to him as a loser for destroying everything they had hoped, dreamed and worked for: their marriage, their family and business. “He destroyed it, threw it all away.” How sad, tragic and pathetic.
@zacefronswife100 From everything I've ever heard he really was. He was also a superb actor wth great timing. Too bad he was always really overshadowed by Lucy, although he didn't ever care.. Loved the righto! remark.
Desi was great here
The First Peep Desi made was a dead giveaway, the panel is being curtious😂
Writer-humorist Hal Block was with the program in its early days, quickly falling into disfavor when he started making borderline risque jokes on the air, frequently at the sponsor's expense. These were pretty tame by today's standards, but back when USA stood for Uptight States of America in some categories, it engendered a negative response from viewers. He would spend the remainder of his life as a writer, winning two Emmys for his work in that area over the next three decades. He died in '77
Omg its Penn Jillette from Penn & Teller!
He's great..lol
"Size-ist"? Such jargon
Desi is a scream here!
@sennasam That's a very good observation however Arnaz did get a lot of recognition, all the way to the bank! ;)
oh i see, i didnt know that. thats too bad. they were a great pair. but i guess good looks and lots of money bring out a person's darker urges, especially in hollywood.
@torchkit I guess clothes really meant a lot back then.
@MrsCullenJankowski
HE IS MY OLD MAN CRUSH! Ei ei ei!!

It's funny, but the poor / odd lighting on this show actually makes Desi look sexier than he did on the pristine I Love Lucy episodes.
I always wondered how Desi got his hair to look like that.
Oh, God, I'm surprised he was able to keep them off the scent for so long.
Desi was my very first crush (Ricky Ricardo) at age 4 and set the stage for my preference for dark (hair and eyes) Latin/Hispanic men. I have no interest in blonde, blue eyed men.
what did he do to her?
LadyScorpio39 Desi was bad as a supportive and loyal spouse.
Boy, was that guy at the end a blimp!
It's funny, but the poor / odd lighting on this show actually makes Desi look sexier and more sensual than he did on the pristine I Love Lucy episodes.
He was a womanizer. He loved Lucy, but he couldn't control his urges to flirt and be around other women. He cheated on her, which is why they eventually divorced.
We all have our demons ....
who cares, lucy was a pain in the ass. even her children couldn't really stand her.
AND WHAT WAS TINY'S PROFESSION???????????????????????????????
Frog catcher.
I think it's too obvious that it's Desi Arnaz
You got some “splaining” to do.
Is this after the divorce He loved her too.
Grow up. He loved her, he would have cut back on the booze and broads. She may have loved what he represented at one time to her, but she couldn’t have a life with him.
Mr. Cerf asks about Miss Imogene "Coco", whose correct last name was Coca.
Over the years, he rudely and stupidly brutalized famous people's names, while always trying to affect an air of intelligence and wisdom.
Dullard.
Lighten up, dork.
voice too recognizable
Hal Block could be SO obnoxious.
Lucille Ball, probably the funniest person ever?
She probably had to be the disciplinarian and the kids might have seen a lot less of him. So daddy was fun.
No they saw desi more than Lucy .
