Sony MDX-U1 - The first MD Head Unit translates Katakana???

- Playing around with my Sony MDX-U1, I realized that it displayed something very different than the Katakana that showed up on Webminidisc and on my Sharp DR80.
While it couldn’t display Katakana, it ended up romanizing the Katakana which I found rather interesting and unique. Do other players do this too?
