    I would like to interject for just a moment to tell you my take on it.
    I'm certainly not a doctor but Ive been an RN for 25 years. For 15 plus years I worked in the hospital then specialized pediatric Home Care and now a school nurse. So I use these inhalers with my students daily. For young children I actually have an alternative way of doing it. I have them, if they are actively wheezing, sit upright with their hands, both on top of their head. Open up the rib cage. I then do one pump, inhale and hold for 10 seconds. I wait a minute. Then we do the second. Same way. If a student does not have a spacer it is very difficult for them not to lose some of the medication unfortunately due to a bad seal or due to them not holding it. Using this technique, I feel like it allows the medication to go completely down into the lungs deeply.
    Even for adults, even for my children, I encourage them to do one pump with the deep breath and wait 10 seconds. Wait a minute or two and then do the second. Afterwards I always encourage splash of water on the face followed by rinsing of the mouth. Thrush can be a major side effect for those that are in a flare and using these inhalers or nebulizers or a regular basis for a period of time.

      @DrSophieGP  День тому +1

      Thanks for sharing this, it certainly makes sense and yes, rinsing out the mouth after to prevent thrush is important too 👍🏻

    I’ve had asthma for years and the worst part about using an inhaler is when your coughing and then have to hold your breath, it’s so hard to not cough right after

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  4 дні тому

      Ideally, your preventative inhaler means your coughing should be under control and you only rarely need to use your reliever inhaler. I know that’s easier said than done!

    Those who has asthma I recommend to take high dose of vitamin D3 about 20,000 IU along with complex of magnesium to activate vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 complex to absorb everything. Good luck on your journey! It should help you to forget about your asthma and live regular life again. 👍 This sprays are only temporary symptoms relief and nothing more than that. 🤔

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  Місяць тому +1

      Im not a huge supplement fan for most people, but agree vitamin d and magnesium are great options for many reasons. The ‘reliever’ inhalers only give temporary relief (but can be life-saving’, whereas the ‘preventers’ are important for keeping asthma under control.

      It’s mostly just to prime a new inhaler or if you’ve not used it for a while, otherwise you may not get the right amount of medication.

    But how does it actually help breathing, what does the medicine do to the lungs?

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  4 місяці тому

      That’s a totally different video! It depends what is in the inhaler, but often opens up the airways for those with asthma or COPD.

    These inhalers are horrible and addictive!

    • @DrSophieGP
      @DrSophieGP  20 днів тому

      They are not physiologically addictive and inhalers save lives everyday. Not sure where you are getting your information from, but perhaps seek out some more robust sources.

      Yes, some people like to wash their mouth out with water, but you have a reduced risk of oral thrush if using it correctly
