Be careful with the bridge-exercise! I'd suggest to do a safe micro version of it where you start fully on the floor w your back. Then only lift an inch/centimetre. Do this for some weeks till it's easy. Then start doing 2cm. Work your way slowly but safely up to the full exercise. Don't try the full motion before that. If you don't have full control over this position I'd be be very afraid of serious neck injuries. Just my two cents. Love the channel, but I think this exercise needs a disclaimer and is risky.
Been doing neck bridges still with a twist on weight lifting thin mats and wood floors since I was at squat rack at la fitness n this young guy in collage started doing neck bridges on hard matt..anyways about a year ago I got hit 3 times with a 2 x4 and a suckle punch. It barely made me blink. Also I did win that conflict.. yes
This also makes takedowns / shots faster because going in for a take down thier is subconscious delay / cautious engagement to avoid a elbow or whatever to the too of the skull. After doing neck bridges on hard surfaces i invertanly made my shots faster stronger quicker and more confident. The cartilage joints at the top of skull become hard.
@@llLoganlllit makes it feel better, but at the same time it's addictive, if I don't do 2 exercises that are at least as hard as this in a week, my neck feels incredibly weak.
Hello Gab. Appriciate it. Could you make a video about what makes Cory Sandhagen so good? After his recent dominance victory I would like to see what he does to be that good.
Hey Gabriel I'm wondering if there are drills or exercises to develop faster reaction time. I tested my reaction time on an app and found that I have slower than average reaction time. I suck in sparring when we are going full speed but if my sparring partner spar's a little slower I do pretty well and I think this is because of my slower reaction time. Maybe you could do a video on this.
This is all good and useful, EXCEPT the neck bridges. Those are dangerous, ESPECIALLY if you're relatively untrained (eying everyone here in the comments.) Mike Tyson used to do that sort of exercise and he credits it with causing him really bad neck injuries. Don't use your neck vertebrae to support your entire bodyweight in a mechanically disadvantaged position, please.
Mike Tyson did them dangerously because he did them very fast. You should do them with proper form and slowly like the way gabriel did in the video, just like any other exercise you should them with proper form and technique. Also important to not do neck bridges if you are not strong enough, instead you should work your way up to them by doing half reps.
@@HamadAzad I mean, sure, it is possible to do this bad exercise in a slightly less bad way. But it's fundamentally, biomechanically, unsound. It would be like recommending someone deadlift heavy weight with an intentionally rounded back , but worse because it's your neck. So even if you modify this bad exercise to be less intense and thereby a little less dangerous, the cost:benefit ratio is so ridiculous that it's a waste of time, at best.
@@benwhite2795 The benefit for the average guy might not be there, but for someone who is training/competition in any combat sports, then it is very important. There aren't many safe neck exercises that will give you the same benefits as the wrestler bridge, just like squatting is the best exercise to grow legs, but it also compresses your spine, but people still do them because they are so beneficial. Many exercises will do a number on your body after years of doing them, especially if done heavy, but are you doing stop doing them just because it will tear your body up in the long run, maybe we should stop and just do pilates and yoga.

So sor please make a vidoe on strategies for a short but lean or lanky boxer. UR advice would be appreciated. thank you sir i need it. utube doesnt have much info
There's been a long history of people using neck bridges without issue in the calisthenics community. Main tips I'd give to avoid hurting yourself with them (short- and long-term) is to take your time building up to the full range of motion (first using your hands to assist, then gradually putting fewer and fewer fingers on the floor until you can do them on just your neck) and take care that you keep your neck relatively straight (notice how Gabriel doesn't really bend the neck, he hinges at the skull).
@@Ash__Adler much appreciated, Jeff Cavalier was saying it was a bad idea. I do prefer though to break things down as ai had no issues with doing them. I feel injuries can be common because improper technique, form, etcetera is common.
@@DedicatedSpartan yes of course his videos helped me a lot with the basics so when I joined an actual gym I was kinda ready. Also with neck workouts, been doing them for a year
@@GabrielVargaOfficial Gabriel, is it absolutely necessary to hold your upper torso and hands up in the air when training the back of the neck? I just started working out again last week and can't hold the position even for 10 seconds without shaking, and I don't want my neck to be trained unevenly. Thank you.
Just use neck weights. In no way ever use your head to do a pushup...of any kind, like he does at the 2:56 mark Mike Tyson did it, and he's in eternal back pain for life. It destroys the vertebrae in your upper spine..there's nothing in it you can't achieve with the other exercises Gabriel shows. And neck/shoulder weights

@Project Maasai just look it up. Or ask old school boxers who suffer the pain every day...there's a reason Mike has a weed farm. Sonny Liston did it more than anyone. His neck was absolutely f****d by the time he died. He may have even been taking morphine for the pain, despite a life long fear of needles.
Agreed, they are called neck bridges, and are very dangerous. Putting the neck into compression can cause nerve impingements. And then you run the risk of ending up like Bas Ruten or Frank Mir. Both of whom ended up with severe nerve impingements that made one of their arms atrophy.
PLEASE DON'T DO NECK BRIDGES! neck bridges are HORRIBLE for your neck vertebrae. the exercise has no advantages compared to other neck strengthening techniques but puts a huge load and grinding motion on the smallest vertebrae and discs you have in your body. a huge number of wrestlers and boxers have chronic pain and reduced range of motion in the neck because of this.
