    Without even watching 30 seconds of this case, how in the hell is a sneezing puppy a sign of love at first sight? I would immediately question why the puppy is sneezing. That would be a sign that it may be sick. Duh.

      The only exception I can think of is if the dog is a brachiocephalic breed (a breed with a smushed-in nose like a shih tzu, pekingese, pug, bulldog, etc).
      Those breeds can make a “sneezing” or “snuffling” sound when they’re excited. Especially as puppies.
      But often it’s because they have deformed sinus cavities and shortened nasal passages and can’t breathe properly.
      It’s why they have a reputation for breathing loudly and snoring as adults. Because their sinuses, soft palate, and nasal passages are deformed to make that “cute” face.

    The puppy pooped so much because she was overfeeding it. Lots of puppies will overeat if you let them. And if the puppy had symptoms after a couple weeks and then had symptoms again after going off the medicine, did she have her other dog tested for parasites? Maybe the puppy got the parasites from her other dog or from somewhere on her property.

    • @arcaderat1613
      @arcaderat1613 Рік тому +4

      Yeah, if the puppy was eating so much, the right thing to do would have been to make sure it doesn't over eat. You don't just keep putting down food if the dog is eating it fast, you don't leave them to free feed if they eat that much. You put it down, let them eat, then pick it back up. Then get them to the vet to find out what is going on with the dog that is making it so hungry.
      Like the judge said, the dog could get the parasite from anywhere too. We have coyotes, rabbits, cats, and other small animals running through our yard all the time and when my dog got hookworm, the vet outright said that they could get it just from walking in poop from an infected animal and licking their paws. it happens.

    • @TMS-pj7fp
      @TMS-pj7fp Рік тому +2

      Sadly puppies can get parasites so easily, I take every pup I've had to the vet and they can easily get worms no matter how good of an owner u r. I've had 2 litters of pups from my Labrador's and I give them de wormer around 6 weeks just in case and then they go 2 the vet at 8 weeks right b4 they went to their new home.

      Buy from a reputable breeder if you need a dog for something besides a pet. With shelters it's hit or miss whether they have a suitable stock dog or household guardian with a good stable temperament. I'd always go with specific breed rescue before an animal shelter, because people knowlegable and experienced with the breed will have fostered the dog, taught him manners, fully vetted him (heartworm treatment if needed, all vaccinations and wormings), and are familiar with his likes and dislikes - whether he's OK with kids, cats, etc.

    • @alexlibby5087
      @alexlibby5087 Рік тому +9

      Unfortunately as a dog trainer and behaviorist myself, Harvey’s preaching is irresponsible.
      When adopting a dog from a rescue you have unknown genetic and breed history, unknown training/socializing/trauma background, or how much the personality will change when taken from a situation like a shelter to home/family life.
      Adopt if you can or feel its an option for you; but please stop preaching that its the only and best option for everyone as it really, really is not.

      @Annie_Annie__ Рік тому

      @@FilmerOfBobcats I’ve worked for shelters, granted for cat shelters not dogs, but we almost always know the personality of the animals in our care whether they’re pure bred or not.
      When possible we ask the previous owners as much as we can about the animal’s personality and likes and dislikes. Many of the cats stay with fosters at first while getting medical treatment, so they’re often in a home where you can find out how they handle children, dogs, other cats, etc.
      Also, the shelter I worked for was cage-free as much as possible and we often simply played with and observed the kitties so that we knew their personalities inside and out.
      We knew which ones gravitated towards kids and wanted to play. We knew which ones would probably prefer someone to just sit on the couch with them and watch tv. Etc etc.
      And most dog shelters are the same way. They have fosters that know the dogs as well as their own dogs. The dogs get taken outside to play (if they’re playful), to jog (if they’re joggers/runners), or simply to explore and sit in the sun if they’re couch potatoes.
      And you get to know a LOT about an animal this way.
      The shelter workers then know which dogs would be good with big kids, gentle with little kids, a great fit for joggers or athletes, or for folks who maybe work from home or are elderly and just want a cuddly companion. They know which dogs are clever, which are stubborn, which are shy, which are eager-to-please, and which are happy-go-lucky types.
      At most shelters all you have to do is say “this is what my family/living situation is and this is what I’m looking for” and they will bring you several dogs/cats that fit your needs precisely.
      And in my experience, one of those 3 or so animals just clicks and everyone knows that’s The One.
      Even if it’s not the exact breed/color they were originally envisioning.

      Adopt or shop from responsible, reputable, preservation breeder. Those dogs you will never find in a pet store or in a rescue. The responsible breeders don't pump out tons of puppies. They know where every puppy is offer lifetime breeder support and will always take back that dog no matter what the situation is if you can no longer care for the dog. The problem is the backyard breeders and puppy mills that don't care what they throw together as long as it produces puppies. There are very good breeders that absolutely should not be lumped in with the bad ones. But that is just my 2 cents as a person who has been working in the per care industry going on 30 years now. Worms can live in the ground for years. If a puppy gets worms vomiting, poops, swollen belly, not eating, not gaining weight are signs of worms. When you get a puppy it usually needs to go to a vet within the first week for shots and health check. If you dont disinfect everything the puppy has touched, layed on worms live on surfaces for a certain time. I bought a puppy it died withing 7 days of having her. I took her to the vet within 3 days of getting her, but the 2 types of worms she had for over a month already done the damage and she was weak. When she got the dewormer meds and the damage it had done on her stomach and blood cells it killed her. I tried to save her i spent over 1k trying to save her. The breeder was a POS. He wouldnt give me the puppy price and vet bill money back. He decided he would give me another puppy, i specifically told him to make sure the puppy didnt have worms. He brought me the puppy, 5 months old, belly full of worms. It took us 7 rounds of medication and almost 3 months to get rid of the worms. We picked up the poop immediately after him going to prevent the worms from getting in the ground. Even poured bleach on spots. He is now healthy and happy. Been worm free since all that in the beginning. The breeder really pissed me off. He didn't even do basic care for the puppies.

      As the judge said animals are living breathing things. They get into stuff they aren't supposed to.. they get injured by sharp objects. They accidently encounter parasites on walks or from someone tracking dirt in on their shoe.
      A lot can happen in two weeks which is why states limit it to that long. Any longer would allow more problems

    As a dog groomer, I have heard so many stories that rescue dogs... came with existing problems. Chasing cats, getting out, digging up garden, not getting along with other dogs, etc etc. As nice as it is to rescue a dog, it's like buying a used car. it comes with baggage. Buying a puppy from a reputable breeder, the pup grows up with your other pets, and you can train it to your life style. I've rescued, and bought pups... and the pups fit in a lot better than the rescues.

    Edit ps ,I had to just send message earlier without making my actual point cause my phone started to ring ,and I wanted to answer.
    So not all "RESCUE DOGS" are gonna be great dogs, lots are gonna be from puppy mills and then dumped for exactly the reasons I don't buy pet store pets or puppy mill dogs. But I have taken " free " ones. Not so free if you need to spend thousands of dollars on their vet bills. Well In general the rescue dogs are a better choice for people who just want a appreciative dog when they have had an actual bad previous life. Not all are good dogs , just like not all puppy mill dogs are bad health and mental problems due from over breeding and neglect.

    It's unfair to preach "only rescue!" I'm a responsible, loving pet owner. I've rescued off the street, adopted from a shelter and purchased from a store. My most recent shelter rescue got severely sick the day after we brought her home (obviously she was already sick, but it was not yet apparent). A HEFTY vet bill means that many people would have not been able to afford her care- let alone the time, patience and emotional rollercoaster. What 'quality of life' is a dying because someone can't afford ridiculous vet bills, but don't worry- they get bonus points because "rescue"? No. I adore this little one, but that first week was rough and financially/ emotionally draining. It comes down to being a RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER, regardless of where you got your pet.

    Okay Harvey, move over... I love you, sweetheart. I volunteer at the local Animal Shelter and Adoption Centre, and he's right. Plus the veterinary service clinic for our rescue adoptions is like the Mayo clinic, although I'd love more room for the post ops. We never seem to have any returns and working in the Cat enclosure, the first sign of bugs- usually feline flu- is taken incredibly seriously. They are separated and quarantined along with any caddies in with them showing symptoms. We all know the symptoms and educate adopters on those. All the paperwork includes these health alerts and the pets are to be brought back to us if they get sick in the first twelve months. We rely on public funding, and donations because the government sees us as way down the line of priorities... we have a brilliant director whose father founded us.
    The cats come in a little shocked, but after a day or so we have cuddled them into settling - if that's their thing.
    And we have a lot- a lot- of pure breds come through which is heartbreaking. Please think about it if you can. It's not free but there are financial programs for the elderly and those who can't afford vet care... believe me.

      Rescues are a gamble, you know nothing about breed, temperament, genetic health defects, vaccination history, training history. When one researches reputable breeders then one does get to know the health, conformation, temperament, and breed drive level provenance of the dog. You have a relationship with the breeder for the life of the dog, and indeed you pay for that in the purchase price. My breeder wanted to know who my vet was, and I was contractually obligated to get a puppy health check done within a week. Reputable breeders keep cleaner facilities, often in their home, and keep things low stress in addition to beginning socializing. Shelters are the opposite of that, unsanitary, exposure to multiple diseases and parasites, high stress and lack of adequate interaction. It feels good to rescue a shelter dog, but don't make the claim that you are getting better quality than you really are. Also, shelters are dumps for irresponsible breeders and irresponsible and uncommitted dog owners--so, they facilitate and enable irresponsibility.
