    "Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages worldwide and one of the primary sources of caffeine intake. Given its important health and economic impact, the underlying genetics of its consumption has been widely studied. Despite these efforts, much has still to be uncovered."

    "And now scientists might finally have a way to explain your relationship with coffee, finding that genetic variations that affect how the body breaks down caffeine could be responsible for influencing us to drink more or less of this stimulating beverage."
    How does caffeine affect the body?

    "Caffeine--the drug that gives coffee and cola its kick--has a number of physiological effects. At the cellular level, caffeine blocks the action of a chemical called phosphodiesterase (PDE). Inside cells, PDE normally breaks down the second chemical messenger cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)."

      lol nope, that shit tastes terrible, besides, the only redeeming quality for green tea is be a metabolism booster (and even then its not worth swallowing hot water with dry green tea leaves being rehydrated and squeezing out the extract).
      Sure, go drink it, but its pretty redundant and terrible in taste. I'll stick to coffee like a sane person.

      lazy Perfectionist It also works as an antioxidant and it is the second most healthiest drink in the planet. You can alwaus sweetene green tea.
      But the only good thing about coffee is that it works as a pick me up. Other than that, it is a drug with high withdrawals symptoms.

      ***** I always leave my water for a minute and then add the green tea and it taste just fine. Compared to when I started making it that I used to add the tea only when the water was boiling, the tea tasted horrible. But leaving it for 30 secs to 1 minute and the tea taste just fine.

Also it just happens that I am the one who stays up focused for longest, has the most energy to keep going and I even wake up quicker. Regardless if I haven't slepy at all I can get a boost by drinking some coffee. I suppose it has more effect on me since I don't usually consume it.

    You may be what you eat, but you’re also emotions and feelings, and how people deal with these psychological factors comes back to how they behave to deal with these emotions / feelings, which, instead of moving and doing exercise, it’s ‘easier’ to resort to substituting with substances, like coffee, to get stimulation, or avoid/delay rest such as sleep to recharge, in order to stay awake. The impact of not addressing these sometimes difficult emotions and feelings means putting pressure on resources, using way more energy in the bigger picture of living systems, just because a person or group of people hasn’t found an ‘inward’ solution to handling their emotions, essentially being more detrimental to the state of the environment by fuelling a demand for monoculture activities. How does science factor these considerations in its research?

    • @lazyperfectionist3978
      @lazyperfectionist3978 8 років тому +1

      careful with that amount, StSebbe. You'd better make sure you drink enough water the rest of the day to keep up with those 4 shots (in fact you should probably just not take 4 at once, its not as effective compared to 4 shots over the course of the day, and you'd probably put too much stress on your heart with 4 in one go... I know this from making the mistake of taking more than 4 shots worth of coffee within several hours. it was not fun.)

    Coffee snob here: it's more important to use more grounds and hotter water rather that those expensive artisan roasts. Consumer coffee makers' elements are usually not hot enough because they are cheaply made. Get a pour-over like a Melitta and heat water in a kettle till almost boiling then use basically double the recommended grounds. You'll thank me!

    Loved coffee till one day I drank it and my throat closed up. Didn't think it was anything to do with the coffee so a few days off it and I had some cola... and my throat closed up... turns out I over night developed somewhat of an intolerance to caffeine where now even the smallest amount of my favorite compound causes me to nearly die...

    Even since giving up coffee drinking on a regular basis I feel much better. I drink it once in a blue moon. I switched to black tea which has half the caffeine and I don't feel like I need more caffeine.
    Caffeine isn't required by the body. It's actually made by plants as a natural insecticide to kill bugs that eat the plants that produce it.
    People think caffeine does something special for them when in reality you only crave it because you're physically addicted to it and if you don't have it for a while your brain gets typical withdrawal symptoms just like with any other addictive drug and when you put it back into your system you feel renewed but it's just a fake fleeting feeling that isn't worth having once you give up the addiction

    I go on and off coffee from time to time. Currently off it for about 2 months now. Found I was getting moody if I didn't have my morning cup and thought - that can't be good, why does my mind say I NEED this? So gave it up and now only have a cup every other week for social reasons. I have given up coffee maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 3 years so I am sure I will get addicted again in the future :P It should also be noted that some of the coffee here is mostly chicory and I find that with that I feel more on edge then with coffee coffee.

    • @SirThomasJames
      @SirThomasJames 8 років тому +1

      What is chicory? I am also thinking about quitting for the exact same reason. I am on 2 cups/day, without I feel slow and eventually start getting headaches

    • @frozeneternity93
      @frozeneternity93 8 років тому

      SirThomasJames Chicory is a coffee alternative made from the roots of the chicory plant. The roots are dried and ground up into a powder. It is usually mixed in with regular coffee. I find it has a milder and less bitter taste to coffee. Just like coffee it has its benefits but there are some concerns with its use too.
      I went through the headaches the first time I gave up coffee a few years back. When I am addicted and in the routine of having a cup in the morning I would get grumpy and quick to anger without it. It would be all I could think about until I had a cup. That is not healthy :P

    I'm not a monster when I don't drink my coffee. I don't feel like I "need" coffee. I just enjoy the bracing flavor. I usually only drink one 12 oz mug of coffee each day (black, no sugar). I've been known to skip a day here and there. And I never want coffee when I have a cold. Just hot water with lemon or ginger.
    I prefer Kona dark roast. When I can't get that, I've been known to purchase Yuban brand dark roast. Recently, my store was sold out of that, so I ended up buying Maxwell House smooth dark. "That" took some getting used to. I still don't particularly like it, but I don't hate it. And since I bought it, I'm damn well gonna drink it until it's gone. I don't like throwing money out the window. Coffee aint cheap.

The multi-billion dollar coffee industry continues it's funding of so called "research" and it's massive propaganda campaign, but still can't paint coffee as harmless, best it can do is confuse the issue enough so that those seeking truth come to the conclusion: "more research is needed"

    Very interesting. That might be useful in artificial genetic repairs at a later date by helping to bind new material to the damaged DNA. That said, I would recommend a coffee with maple syrup (real, not fake), (real) vanilla extract and cinnamon. The maple syrup has minerals, the vanilla apparently reduces free radicals and cinnamon is supposed to help keep your blood sugar balanced. I'm not an expert though, so you might want to double check all that. Either way it tastes really good. Hazelnut is also good in coffee, particularly with any or all of the prior mentioned three ingredients.

    Coffee is great. I used not like it when I was younger. But the older I got, the more I seemed to like it. I mostly drink it during the week. I'm not sure if it's a habit, and lets me think I'm functional, or if I actually like it. I used to drink it with heavy creamer. But then I tried it straight black, with nothing. I still drink it straight black, with nothing. I like the way it smells, mostly. The taste isn't much of reason to drink it. It all tastes the same to me. Unless it's burnt. Then it tastes like straight up garbage.

    Mediums such as alcohol, caffeine and smoking all affect our collective physical and mental well being, even when we don't personally consume any of them, society has a way of gradually building itself on substances that shape human thought-processes and capabilities.
    I myself could not cope with a society that has become so over-developed with these substances, especially because I try to limit them from personal experience on the importance in maintaining balance in life. Other people are not so modest, they over-consume things that they or others will eventually have to end up suffering for simply because they want to perform as best as they can.
    Think about the workplace for a minute, how many people would quit their jobs today if they found out how repetitive, uninteresting and(or) strenuous it is?
    Or
    How about how depressing it is to know that we're living in a time where our smartest electable leaders are interested in the continued propagation of world conflict and wars and can't get together to solve important things such as eliminating world-hunger and safe-guarding the planet from sure-destruction?
    Well, it is understandable that you would be incapable to understand these scenarios if you were a coffee drinker in the first one and an alcoholic one in the second, they suppress the human abilities within us to feel like any of this is our problem, and that by simply agreeing to fall under certain limiting criteria for the consumption of aforementioned substances, we are effectively creating a world with a more deepened understanding and connection to life and all it is hospitable to.
