Hey Mike, do you ever use luminosity selections? Also, I enjoyed the trick you shared about the curves adjustment layer and inverting the mask to increase the dynamism of the image.

Yes, I use luminosity masks quite often. The TK panel from Tony Kuyper works great for making luminosity selections.
