I feel I need to add some context here in defence of the city I love. Firstly, many of these photos are taken in very early spring, when the temperature rises suddenly and the snows melt quickly. Traditionally (albeit less in recent years), the temperature in Tomsk is minus 40 degrees Centigrade for four months and so the snowfall is enormous. Hence, there's a lot of water when it melts! Secondly, because of the severe cold, gas pipes cannot be located within the ground but instead have to be heavily insulated and above ground. Indeed, many of the houses are built on stilts because if they were on ground level their heat would melt the permafrost beneath them, causing the house to sink. Thirdly, Tomsk is situated next to a forest the size of France which is on a peat bog: it absorbs a third of the earth's Carbon Dioxide! Thus, the traditional housing in the city is wooden and now very old. The local authority does little to care for these houses and most are covered by legal restrictions meaning they cannot be altered. Indeed, the authority prefers to demolish them in favour of new blocks and hefty backhanders (ask the football club about the corruption at high level). Fourthly, the roads are heavily pot-holed (cratered to be more precise) because of gelifraction in the severe weather. Fifthly, any video on Tomsk is incomplete without showing Lagerniy Sad. Your statement at the end is wrong, absurdly so. The reservations for our native people's are not paradise, but they are wonderful compared to those places you mentioned. People on the reservations live close to the land. Their ancestors lived like that. There is great poverty. Drugs and alcohol are real problems, especially among the young. The mainstream of American Life passes these places by. The economic situation is often bad. But they get decent medical care. Children go to school. Some leave and have success. Some stay and become leaders of their people. From those cities there are success stories too. But very few. I have been on reservations. I would gladly go back. I have some native blood in me. But I would not want to go to those cities. They seem horrible, at least some parts.

Так на самом деле все иначе: Томск -- очень хороший город, а верить bander.овкам -- нелепо. Их "методом" можно обгадить хоть святой престол.
Why does this look like Detroit at its best?
It's easy enough to make anyplace look bad if you only see the worst in things. Every country can appear horrible if thats what you look for.
Thanks for watching the video. I show different places: both beautiful and not very.
Even New Zealand has some shitty areas
Looks like Detroit
The places depicted look bad. These are not sprawling favelas with no running water, but with running sewage.
Thanks for watching the video. Let's be honest. Not all of Russia lives like this. There are luxurious mansions and ordinary residential hauses with sewers.
@@TheRWorld Brazil has a bigger GDP than Russia. However, it is Brazil that has massive favelas, and not Russia.
wow. Apparently, there is no garbage pickup, either; as well as no gravel.....on the road. Not one stone, shall be overturned...... .
sounds like the theme tune to Minder.
REALLY, COME TU THE U S A , WE'VE GOT LOTS TO SHOW YA.
Looks like pretty nice Alaska countryside. Visit Russia would be good idea.
Over the past 100 years, cities in Russia have changed little. I am sure that you will have time to realize your idea.
Thanks for watching the video.
Go visit they'll plant pot on you and 9 year visit if your lucky😂
Here you see images again of which I think why are those people not being helped. World poverty is simply a political choice. But yes ... staying in power is apparently what it's all about. Better a strong army and a poor population than the other way around. Most people will think I'm naive, but those are the people who believe that violence is the solution
Wish they would have kept her
America has the exact same thing in many states.
Detroit the ozarks in Tennessee is much worse then this Houston TEXAS Louisiana.
America is no different
And Russia used billions in the war with Ukraine.Russia can better use the money to maintain his own country. The money is at the wrong hands in Russia.
Such a thing would run counter to Putin's ideas, because it would be exactly diametrically opposed to his dream of a thousand-year Reich, as his great role model Adolf Hitler wanted to realize.
Haha is is a real imperium....
We in Poland are really afraid of Russian army after we see its success in Ukraine....
This Russia is nothing compare to how horrible the native indigenous American indians live in occupied European white settlers known as contemporary Americans. A friends of mine ended up in the red indian held America once and could not believe his eyes what he saw. It was worse than slums of india or Bangla desh.
Their major problem is alchohol and drug abuse, I've seen many of the reservation areas. They have similar problems in aboriginal areas like Bamaga in Australia.
@@Space-Observer Or take India, more nuclear weapons than the UK and France yet 700 million do not have an indoor toilet!
@@johnallen7807 Maybe some peoples can't shit into their houses as Europeans. 🤣
@@halljamenjeninnen1310 You miss my point

Our future here. Extremely wealthy and the rest of the peasants.
Cute log houses. Other than that it could be any town in EU, CH, NO...
Or maybe not.
the author showed you the most lame areas of Tomsk, believe me, I live in the center, everything is fine there
I agree with you 100%. I'm not saying that all of Tomsk is ruins, but there really are such places.
Thanks for watching the video.
@@TheRWorld There are places in the UK as decrepit as this
In the centere even Kalkota looks great. :)
why don't you make a video about Chicago, Detroit, LA, Berlin, Paris, London? You find trashy living conditions everywhere. Russian supermarkets have all the produce an average US or Euorpean market can only dream of, how about that? Haven't you realised that the tables have turned? Russia is to become the future land of the free and unlimited opportunities whereas Europe and the US are spiralling downward real fast.
Lucky buggers have houses booking flight from nz now lol
Pick me up in Queensland as you fly up mate, looks like a top spot aye 👌

Yes, all countries have slums. but 50 million people in RU w/o hot water?
Those billionaire oligarchs (including Pootin) should donate water & solar heaters, plus insulation to all the poor villages across the country. (In the US several extremely rich people have promised to give away all their money to various charities.)
You're right.
Thanks for watching the video.
its every man & woman for themselves in russia. The poverty on sakhalin island is appalling especially amongst the indigenous population. Pootin taking his morning dump on a golden toilet while these people live in cardboard sided shacks in siberia. Its like a giant depression hangs over that land.
@BludShotiiiiis You're right. Many Russians live in poverty.
@@TheRWorld if putin and associates weren't such greedy pricks there'd be enough for all to live in dignity. When we built Sakhalin 1 & others the hope was there'd be trickle down of wealth but nope. Billions went into the little psycho's pocket so he could buy golden toilets for his palaces.
That could be anywhere in the world.including America..
right

Kim Hansen The Russians are destroying buildings and infrastructure in Ukraine. But the Russians cannot force the Ukrainians to live like them, with their eyes, ears, and mouths closed. Ukrainians and Russians are very different in mentality.
Okay, so not a fun place to live. Got it.
It's understandable. Russia is so big and Mr. Put-In has no time and strength to travel his biggest country to witness all these.
