Good morning Glen!!!! Another entertaining video!! I say that because before you I had no idea this buggy even existed! All the videos you have done on this one has captured my interest. Myself like others I’m still stuck in the 80’s Tamiyas . Couple of on roads but that’s as crazy as I want to get. So I’ll have to live through you I guess! Keep up the great videos and as always don’t stop making videos! Thanks buddy your awesome!
The buggy looks like it is stable and under control, you could give it more power but it might not be as fun to drive . Looks like a nice buggy and another great video Glenn.
I feel the need, the need for speed! Loved my Baldre DB01 until I put a 6.5t brushless in it and melted the diffs. Probably not set up correctly though. You can spend a small fortune on these (like most Tamiyas) but with diminishing returns. Ceramic ball bearings, one way pulleys, double slipper clutch, reinforced plastic bits etc, but I think you’ve got your set up spot on. 👍
Brilliant. I love the durga. I call it "club spec", and great at what it does. The sealed drivetrain is a total plus for outdoor and that thing is tough! So glad its finally getting the "legend" status it truly deserves! Mines got a 6.5 and its insane. 5.5 is the lowest id go. 3.5 prob too much for buggy. Great video as always, thanks for sharing!
Top video as always. I didn't manage to get a DB-01 Glen, but I have picked up a DF-02, which arrived about 3 days ago. I'm looking forward to giving it a full strip down and building it to my spec.... 👍
more than happy to watch you learn about something be it via friends, the facebook group or even your own research and then watch that be applied, tweak slipper, still not quite right, tweak it some more and try again etc.... thats part of the fun, its not just driving the cars, its also the tinkering and upgrading, even if that upgrading is actually the tinkering of existing components rather than just throwing more hop-ups at it
I've gone trought the same experience like you but a few weeks ago. Unfortunately not with an Tamiya but the point is the same, ball diffs, slipper, just new stuff we didn't have back in the days. Sure, we all love our old Tamiya's, but with newer technology there are also improvements done to the RC cars which can be seen hear in handling and acceleration. Great video Glenn and thanks for sharing 💪 Stay safe
Thanks for sharing Glenn, if possible it would be really cool to see how this performs vs. a retro buggy like the avante over a timed lap of a course, even at the local park!
4:45 => I have a good turn spin now on both diffs on my Durga. No Slipper. Runs great on 4600kv Razer Ten Combo (which i can HIGHLY recommend - much better than the F540 combo from China) on 2s and 3s ! THANKS for the advice, Glenn ! Before, the diffs were way too loose and top speed could not be reached...Fortunately I did not melt the diffs on the 10min I ran (which happened to the diffs of the previous owner of my used Losi XX4G+, that I bought on Ebay and restored...). DIFF ADJUSTEMT is CRUCIAL, guys !!!! I don´t understand why there is not detailed instructions on that issue in the Tamiya manuals...Well, probably to keep selling their spare parts ;_)
I have used that 10.5T Tamiya motor in my DT-02. The TBLE-02 is not enough ESC for that. I did a test. My DT-02 with 19t pinion and 10.5t with the TBLE-02 ESC did 33 mph flat out. I changed THE ESC to a Tekin R1 pro and took it back out and did 36 mph.
I've seen a few setting the slipper clutch videos and they all seem to do it the same, they hold one rear wheel with their hand and put pressure on the other wheel with there forearm and then hit full throttle on the radio for a couple of seconds and if the front of the car lift's to a 45 deg angle its set correct if it lift's to quickly and to high they loosen the clutch and if it doesn't lift then they will tighten it.
Lovely buggy and amazing paint scheme! I am not an expert but wrt setting up the slipper clutch, I think most people approach it the other way around meaning first tightening it up and then loosening it until the correct set up for the particular surface the buggy is running on is found. That way, you don't unnecessarily expose the spur gear to excessive heat.
Looks fast enough to me. Finally got my Durga up and running a few weeks ago and yes it's a pretty amazing car, smooth, precise and lots of fun! The slipper clutch adjustment seems to be a black art but had to tighten mine as it wasn't quick off the mark. As for the car not getting enough love I truly believe it's because it's missing that typical Tamiya character, something I'm attempting to add to mine!
I'm pleased you've got in to the TRF range and the cheaper counterparts. Much more interesting to me than the older stuff. Shame Tamiya have stopped developing modern buggies.
Very jealous 😏, it has the same set up as my tto2b buggy and unless you race, dont think it needs to be faster, as you lose your fun factor imo Great video again 😉
great car, lovely build - re top speed, that's really determined by the course where you run it - no point in having those long legs if you can't stretch them out. And as you point out, top speed will always come at the cost of acceleration, in any given set-up.
I love the db01. I've got a v capable upgraded df03 and would love to see the 2 compete against each other on track. Df03 is so underrated if a little injury prone
Glad you realised it was still slipping too much... ☺️. You could try an esc with the ability to dial in some dynamic timing for some extra top end . A 10.5, properly geared and with some ‘boost/turbo’ can be seriously quick!
after watching your videos, i decided to get one. getting the slipper clutch seems to be impossible since no one sells it. even the spare spur gear is impossible to find also.
Sweet! Have u done a video on the TT02B Buggy yet? I'm about to start a "massive" build on one......every piece of steel and aluminum I could find......
@@TAMIYALegends It was a bit of leading question since I saw the snap you took ;-) Looking forward to it - and seeing you take those spacers out of the suspension!
The slipper is also dependent on the surface you are going to race on. It will be a little looser on dirt/clay, as opposed to carpet/tarmac/high grip surface. Been eyeing this car off for ages, just hard to get for a decent price. 2S 10.5T is usually my limit
Bought a DB01 RR a decade ago and then a second for my son so we could drive together. One of my favorite RC cars. Need to set a date and try to race it. The only flaw are the front hex hubs. If anyone has thoughts or links on how to convert front hubs to standard please let me know. Great video and build.
I would be interested to see how a hobbywing brushless combo goes. I tried a cheapo 4370kv brushless from eBay in my top force but it blew up after a bit. Not sure if it was the motor or the ESC. So thinking of getting something better quality but not sure what to get. Also the 4370 was a bit too fast for me, only slightly though. Finally after watching your Durga videos I really want one. You are costing me too much money Glenn ;-)
For more speed stick a 3S Lipo in there. The TBLE02 and Tamiya 10.5T can handle it. I have done this set up and it works. Currently running a 6.5T speed passion and hobbywing 120A ESC in mine and that is fast enough on 2S and insane on 3S

Yes 100% that’s what it’s purpose is for sure 😎. But it’s also good for a fat lad like me to blast it around on the tarmac 🤪👊🏻 Although track videos are coming soon 😉
The Durga is pretty much just another racing buggy but the older vintage ones like the Terra Scorcher/Boomerang/TopForce etc are from the good old days when we were all much younger like in our teens so we will always have fond memories of those classic vintage buggies as they bring back nostalgia and good memories that modern ones will never do, just my opinion of course lol
Whilst I agree totally I have to say I do believe that the, DB01 & 2 and all the off road TRF buggies will be pretty sort after in 20 years from now 🤷🏼♂️. But yes they don’t have the character of the cars from the golden era of rc 👊🏻
I'd stick a 2 - 3 tooth higher pinion on rather then mess with the timing for now if you can put on any bigger, otherwise if the motor runs nice & cool with how you run it in general & the esc is the same with a fan ontop of it just max out the timing on the Tamiya motor & see where that takes you for now imo. Maybe a trackstar sensored 120a esc with adjustable timing & keeping the tamiya motor too start with and just go bit by bit rather then spending way too much money on one car & multiple motors with the same 10.5t winding really, it could be better off going too a 8.5t instead rather then a more adjustable 10.5t & going between different motor pinions until you hit a good spot of speed & acceleration on the 8.5t motor. I think replacing the esc will make the biggest difference though with some timing on the Tamiya motor added. If you want way more speed in the future go with the 5.5t sensored motor with a bit of timing & then adjust the timing down a bit & you got a real missile of a buggy. Then a 17t - 19t pinion on the motor it should be ridiculously quick then even with a 11 to 1 gear ratio. When it comes too tires you can probably go for pre glued anaconda rears from the Traxxas bandit vxl on all 4 corners. (The traxxas 2wd's front rims are all on ball bearings rather then a hex.) A bit harder compound from an rtr vehicle that has a good tire thread could be better for asphalt, concrete or something like the proline positron in mc compound on all 4 corners seems too be a good option for asphalt as long as you dont mess about doing burnouts or donuts they should last a while. another tire option is the 1:10th scale short course trucks that have started being turned into rc drag racing cars. They have pretty grippy slicks for short course truck wheels, that would probably be one of the better options for asphalt as they are slicks with plenty of material on them vs buggy which tends too be rather thin regardless of tirethread.
Hi mate I run a team Orion stock esc with the Tamiya 10.5 and it goes well I think it’s faster I haven’t a gps to test it but I drag races my mate he has the Tamiya esc and it kicked it’s backside
I wish Tamiya realized what they had in their hands and releleased the type R It’s a solid inexpensive club racer But parts are hard to find at a minimum
Are you using the Sky rc speed meter software, I have the same meter and although the meter works I cannot for the life of me get the software program to work ?? any suggestions !!
I’m confused by what you do at 3.01 If you hold 3 of the wheels locked you should not be able to easily turn the last wheel . That means your rear diff was Miles too loose or have I got that wrong!?.
It’d be interesting to see a side by side comparison of the same car with std steel bearings vs those way more expensive ceramic bad boys - any experience with those? Are they work the 3X to 4X $?!? Is it more of a run time thing more than speed/accel? Durability?? Just wondering - thanks for the vid as usual love the car!!!
I wouldn't go any faster with it unless you only want to go for speed runs. I honestly had more fun driving my Grasshopper when it had the 380 motor vs. the 540 Torque Tuned, it's weird.
I know exactly what you mean Mark and you are of course spot on 👊🏻 I need to leave it alone now and just enjoy it 🤩 Thanks for watching and commenting 😎👊🏻

(The traxxas 2wd's front rims are all on ball bearings rather then a hex.)
A bit harder compound from an rtr vehicle that has a good tire thread could be better for asphalt, concrete or something like the proline positron in mc compound on all 4 corners seems too be a good option for asphalt as long as you dont mess about doing burnouts or donuts they should last a while.
another tire option is the 1:10th scale short course trucks that have started being turned into rc drag racing cars.
They have pretty grippy slicks for short course truck wheels, that would probably be one of the better options for asphalt as they are slicks with plenty of material on them vs buggy which tends too be rather thin regardless of tirethread.
Excellent information as always my friend 😎👊🏻
I wouldn't fit a 5.5 prob would be too much for it
Hi mate I run a team Orion stock esc with the Tamiya 10.5 and it goes well I think it’s faster I haven’t a gps to test it but I drag races my mate he has the Tamiya esc and it kicked it’s backside
Yes I’ve heard the 10.5 runs better with a higher spec speedo, I need to try another 😊👊🏻
Speed run 😁😁😁
Quite possibly 🤪🤪🤪
I wish Tamiya realized what they had in their hands and releleased the type R
It’s a solid inexpensive club racer
But parts are hard to find at a minimum
Maybe put a hobby wing brushless they give great performance for not a lot of money
Are you using the Sky rc speed meter software, I have the same meter and although the meter works I cannot for the life of me get the software program to work ?? any suggestions !!
Come on Glenn do some speed runs! You know you want to 😁
Lol 😂
You know me it’s very possible in the future 🚗💨💨💨
Here Im practicing figure eights the other way around lol=)
It does need to be a bit faster, maybe nearer to 40mph
We will see 😬🚗💨💨💨
Yes we are hahahaha
Now get the tribute porsche out and see how careful you drive then lol
Paul's RC
Lol 🤪. Nooooooo
But you’re right 😂 I bet I wouldn’t hit a cone 👊🏻
The views might be down cause of the length of the videos. Long videos often get fewer views.
Quite possibly 🤷🏼♂️
I’m confused by what you do at 3.01
If you hold 3 of the wheels locked you should not be able to easily turn the last wheel . That means your rear diff was
Miles too loose or have I got that wrong!?.
Hmmm interesting it’s something I’ve not thought of doing, but could make for a couple of interesting videos 🤔👊🏻
I wouldn't go any faster with it unless you only want to go for speed runs.
I honestly had more fun driving my Grasshopper when it had the 380 motor vs. the 540 Torque Tuned, it's weird.
I know exactly what you mean Mark and you are of course spot on 👊🏻 I need to leave it alone now and just enjoy it 🤩
Thanks for watching and commenting 😎👊🏻
I think another 5mph would be great
It's as fast as you want it to be I think mate
Yeah I think it’s fast enough as it it Tony 👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy 😎
Add gear diff and quicker motor!
Thanks Peter 😊👊🏻
Hi Glenn
Hey 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Why is this model so hard to get?
I’m not sure it was discontinued a couple of years ago but there were always plenty for sale. I do know a lot of guys on my Facebook group have bought them after seeing mine 🤷🏼♂️
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends thank you. Do you have a source in the UK or Europe for one? I could only get ones from Japan, but lots of shipping and duty costs.
i ö
No unfortunately not I actually got mine from Japan 😬
@@TAMIYALegends Ok. Price from japan would be just ok, but with customs it was a little too unreasonable for me.
Thx anyways and Greetings
“Does it need to be faster?” ...... I think a check for the XY chromosome may be in order! 😬
Alan Morris
🤪🤪🤪
Looks like some weird front wheel angles going on, possibly just the video
No that’s what it does same as the TRF503, you see some strange angles which I guess adds up to better handling 😊🚗💨💨💨
Nice work, we will be at CES please check us out.
Come on dude, get your finger out. You know you want to buy the TRF 3.5 motor and ESC. You want to ...... we want you to ...... I even had a call from the Queen, and she wants you to. Stick a 4s in it, find a runway and crank it ..... 100+ easy. I’ll send you £20 to help you out 😬if you get enough pledges, go for it.
Lol a 100mph Durga would be fun 🤪🚗💨💨💨
LOL took you long enough to hit a cone! Your driving needs improvement!
It certainly does my friend 😂
