Run review: This run of SMS was highly enjoyable for me. The runner knew his setups very well and nailed almost all of his tricks. Combine the tricks with sleek and optimized movement and you've go got visually pleasing run as well.
3 hours can be kind of long for a run but the couch made this run. They joke and tease and even pay homage (not well but still welcomed) to the original dododo crew. You get the sense they're all just good buds who enjoy SMS. Announcers were a bit in your face at first but it's a charity event so it's expected.
All in all, the couch and runner did a great job and if you've got free time this is a great run to watch if you're interested in cool tricks and speed running.

nope. I agree 100% they are. you get the FULL experience of clips and glitches the game has to offer as opposed to any %

I'm coming back to this run in 2023 for the couch/commentary.
Notably:
At work whenever I take the plastic wrap off something, crumple it up, and shoot it into the trash I go "KOBEEEEE" because of this run. (47:40)

If you guys wanna see how frustrating the pachinko machine can be just watch the game grumps play that part.
Gamegrumps purposely play bad. It's a show.
Actually isn't that bad if you don't move after the launch, because end up landing on a nail in the middle of the pachinko, and then you can just hover to any of the coins from there easily with a little skill.
i remember renting this game once back in the day and i diddnt understand why he had the water jets and stuff, i kept thinking, "why not just you know make him run around and jump on stuff? like in mario 64." lol

How do people find some of these skips? Does someone actually play the game and think, "hey, what if I threw a banana right before I jumped? Maybe I'd clip through a wall!"
vanvonhunter It's just like Skyrim, but with plates instead. Hold a plate vertically against the wall, and you can clip through.

There is some basic knowledge about game design that transfers over to most games. The applications of exploits vary, but a little know how of game breaking gives you a compass point for finding glitches

Something I find interesting is that the glitch they talk about at around 52:50 (the one where you clip through the ferris wheel) is actually in the official Nintendo Power player's guide that was released when the game came out. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, but I swear that's how I found out about the glitch, since I've known you could do that ever since I was a little kid.

Why do they stop the run after an hour and a few mins?
Kyal's world probably to take a short break since the run is 3.5 hours.
The run commercials every so often since it's a charity stream, it usually doesn't affect the short runs because they put them between the runs, but there's really nowhere else on the long runs.
Edit: the reason you aren't seeing the commercials is because of how twitch saves its VODs.

trey did a y-turn, which means he used the first-person mode to turn mario mid-jump so that he could grab the coin, which happened to be close to the one he collected right before this one.

Tjorven Van Der Pulst RNG is Random Number Generator, so its something thats different in every run therefore not planable for the runner

Every year they finish with Super Metroid. At the end of Super Metroid, there's a little room with some animals that you can open an escape pod in and save them from the planet exploding. There's a bid war every year about saving or killing them.

Skips certain cutscenes if they pause and quit at the right time.
This was being livestreamed originally, and they stopped whenever the stream crashed and the tech team had to get it back up
