What impressed me most is that how the 3D vision really helps with those platforms, not just memory, but he could actually see where he was going with depth.

That look downwards around 5 sec after he said it is so sad. So defeated. Maybe it's nothing but it made me feel bad for him for a bit.
I remember playing this game and 100%'ing it back when I got my 3DS in 2012. It was my first game on the platform, and I had a blast trying to get better and better times in each of the levels.. Needless to say, this puts my best records to shame. Great job, kosmic, and congrats the opportunity to show off such an awesome run!

If i were to be completely honest, Super Mario 3D Land is byfar my most favorite platformer of all. Mostly because its easy to pick up and play, you dont have to wait a sht ton in order for it to load, and its colorful gameplay.
An amazing run with excellent commentary! To top it off he’s quite humble for someone so skilled.

I think the difference in overworld movement speed is because Touching allows you to travel over multiple levels at once, so it would make sense for the devs to make movement from the beginning of a world directly to the end faster.
This is awesome, all the practice this man went through has paid off

Eddiemans That's what I did with mario, then when I finished the normal worlds and unlocked luigi, i beat the normal world with Luigi, then I beat each level 100%
I was like 8 or 9 when I first played it and it was the first game I ever owned so it took me atleast 20 hours to beat the normal world alone. I raged a lot at it...
But eventually I beat the normal and special world

You cant expect the crowd to be hyped for 7 days straight. Go check out Dram World or Super Metroid if you want a crowd.
I agree there could have at least been some courtesy laughs for the runner, it’s not like the same people are in the crowd for all 7 days
He shouldn't have cut them off the first few times they tried responding, subconsciously told them not to react, at least loudly
I think it's neat that speedrunners are rewarded for small time usage by giving them extra coins for lives.
There were so many instances where I thought he messed up but then he wall jumped for a coin or something
Oh, the 3D Land... the first half was comfortable & fun to me while the Special worlds... oh the Special worlds... Special World 8 can go die in a fire along with some of the Special levels.

Beat this game several years ago and pretty much forgot about it until now. This run reminded me of how fun of a game this was to play through, gotta be one of my favorite Mario games

The thing that this game needs to really increase speed-run potential is the addition of the triple jump. I predict that the platforming strats would really improve with a triple jump, assuming it's not a clunky triple jump.
Also, at 37:20, I'm loving the StarCraft reference. It makes me wish there was a StarCraft (the first game) run at Games Done Quick.

About that jump in 5-5; You need something like "hyper speed" to make it that fast, I discovered it while trying to make the final section of the level without using the propeller box or the Tanooki suit.

When i used the UA-cam feature where when you double tap the side of the screen to either go forward 10 seconds or backwards. I missed something so I went back and I realized he went from the first level of world four to the end of the second. Just amazing
