Dude, you just changed my life. I’ve never had an issue with knots, ever, but I recently lost my index finger on my dominant hand. It has been so incredibly hard to just tie knots now, and I’ve never seen this. I’ve fished my entire life, and the sad thing is that I use this method to tie extended dry fly bodies on extremely small patterns but never thought to use it to tie my clinch knot. Thanks again buddy!
Im in the same predicament you are from a table saw accident. Losing fish and flies due to knot failure is extremely frustrating. I cant wait to get out and try this!
@@czwirner you inspire me and it's great to know my video was of use to the community. I will see what other videos and hacks I can come out with in 2023.
Awesome time saver! Especially the dropper connection. If you have trouble with the kinking on small tippet just leave the tag long rather than sliding the knot while tightening
Wow I'm so happy, you're a good man! Thanks for the tip, just tried and man is that so much more comfortable and easy! Keep an coming thanks! I knew there had to be a better way!
Hey thanks for that I’ve just got into fly fishing again I know what I’m doing but I always end up with kinks in my leader and especially down beside my fly hook we’re it’s all curled up as it hits the water cann you give me some advice on how to keep my whole leader straight especially at the hook end as I guess it messes with the presentation as it did with me last night saying that the water was very low & clear I’m also unsure of what dries to use & size for wild browns over here in Scotland 🏴 hope you can help thanks in advance Tight lines ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼 ps I use an 8ft 4W rod so what length of leader should I use 🤷🏼♂️ thanks again 👍🏼🏴
I find that if you cinch the knot slowly it tends to kink less. Also pulling the tippet through pressed fingers tends to straighten it out (or using a leader straightener but I find my thumb and finger works fine). As for dries to use and size, don’t overthink the pattern too much. It’s more about the presentation when fishing low and clear. Keep in mind your first cast is your best opportunity so practice casting at a hole adjacent to where you think they are holding until you have your cast just right and then go for the money shot. I like starting big (size 14/16) and then downsizing if they are really picky. Always have some parachute Adams, elk hair cassis, and smaller stimulators. For leader length, I try not to exceed the length of my rod (so 8’ in your case). That way you don’t get hiccuped in the guides too much. Enjoy and hope you land some browns!
That's a cool little hack you have there, I will have to give it a go next time I fish with a hopper dropper! In the meantime, I will be twisting away with my non-slip knots haha
I always do the improved clinch because I’ve had the clinch either come undone with 7 raps or something else happened. I haven’t had any problems since the improved clinch knot.
I've been doing this for decades...no need to pinch the end of the twist, it wants to stay twisted, you can just let the fly drop down, it will stay there waiting for you to finish. With practice it doesn't take longer than 5 or 6 seconds, and you can do the same move with a dropper section of tippet around the bend of the top fly hook or just twist up the loop in the tippet and catch it on the hook bend.
I've been fishing for years!! i never though of doing it this way . ... Thanks!!!

I just started fly fishing and used the heck out of this hack today. It held great...even during all of my snags
This is the absolute best tip for knot tying. Thank you !!!!
Thank you from a rookie flyfisher. Been out practicing my lousy technique and lost my fly. Great hack.

Simple and outstanding! Or, since you’ve saved me so much time screwing with tying my flies to my leader, simply outstanding. :-)
I sooooo needed to see this video. Thank you

Game changer. Thanks!

Just remember if the tippet is light, take precaution and either do a couple more twists or improve the clinch 👍
I always do the improved clinch because I’ve had the clinch either come undone with 7 raps or something else happened. I haven’t had any problems since the improved clinch knot.
That's why I long abandoned the Clinch Knot, and use the Davy Knot.
I started to use the Davey on ice jigs. Now I use it on size 14 or smaller flies.
Dude this is crazy thanks so much
Brilliant mate, thanks!
Bro this is a game changer!

Yeah, very true, I hardly pinch and this movement is so second nature I bet I could do it in half the time of this video now lol.
brilliant tip thks bud
I want to give this video a like but its at 69 likes and I cant be the guy to ruin that.
This info from your video is a games changer. Thanks!
I didn't understand how you tied the first hopper on without threading it first...could you explain??
So it’s the same knot, just not threaded through the eye. Instead you nearly complete the knot, but place the loop over the hook, and then cinch down.
Oh??? So this would be the "floater" or upper hook?? Interesting!
Very Cool --- Thank You
Thanks
revolutionary!
I'm sorry, but how did you attach the hopper?! That was a bit confusing to see.
Same know, just around the hook bend
Awesome
Woah!!
try it if tippet 7x)
Sometimes, with lighter tippet... you need to make sure you cinch them slow and really lubricate or the heat will compromise the knot.
I bet this still isn’t as fast like the method i use with forceps.
you got a video ?
i know this method, and you're probably correct, i'm always impressed with that method but i fumble the forceps too much. To each their own :)
Doubtful, and who wants to fool around with forceps when they're not needed?
wow. such a scam.
Garbage clinch knot
Well you can keep spending time counting your turns and double clinching 🤷♂️
